Obviously, none of you went to California public schools in the Golden Age of the 1950's.

California was first settled by the Spanish, the first Mission, San Diego, was built in 1776.

Alta California was a province of New Spain until Mexico became independent in 1821! That's right, 1821.

Mexico lost Alta California (what is now the state of California) to the United States as a result of its crushing defeaat in the Mexican war in 1848.

Mexico only controlled California for TWENTY SEVEN YEARS sports fans, 27 lousy years!

Mexico's claim to this country is extremely tenuous historically. All of these LaRaza and MeCha idiots-and that's what they are, I knew some of the MeCha founders at Santa Barbara in the late '60s.

The only real "native" claim would be the California Indians, who have been almost completely wiped out.

Where did you learn California history?

Alta California was settled by Spanish missionaries beginning in 1776. Discovered earlier, to be sure, by both Spanish (Balboa, DeAnza, etc) and English (Drake) explorers in the 16th century, but not settled.

The missions were all built by the Spanish between 1776 and 1820 before Mexico declared independence from Spain.

Mexico ruled California only until 1848, some 27 years. And even then their possession of the area north of San Francisco Bay was disputed, the Russians had a settlement at Ft. Ross (which ultimately Gen. Mariano Vallejo bought from the Russians). Even during the period of Mexican rule, the people who really ran California looked to Spain for goods and education, not to Mexico!

Housing values have been increased tremendously because of immigrants. Not just Mexicans, but Russians, Arabs, Polish, German, Vietnamese, etc. Simply the sheer numbers of unprecedented levels of immigration, regardless of who is arriving. This is good if you're selling; bad if you're buying. In the long run it will result in a lower standard of living for Americans - well, it already has. Folks, you better get used to smaller "living units", just like the Japanese. This means more congestion and sprawl. It also means less habitat for wildlife and one wonders why the Sierra Club, et al, don't protest immigration - but the environment isn't really their interest after all.

Excellent point, which goes double for Mexico itself. Except that Mexico still has significant populations of Indians, many of whom are bilingual or even monolingual in an Indian tongue like Mixtec or Nahuatl. The well-known figure of the 1910 Revolution in Mexico, Emiliano Zapata, was a full blooded Indian and more comfortable speaking Nahuatl than Spanish. Let the "MeCha" brats go do something about the past and continuing expropriation of Mexico's first peoples by the rich, white criollo ruling class there in Mexico before they blab any more about a mythical land named "Aztlan."

Nope, I lived in east Orange, near Tustin. Sure the value of our house went up, as did all real estate, but hordes of illegals moved in apartments on and near east Chapman Avenue, crammed in like sardines, and they infiltrated our neighborhoods to the point where nothing was safe from the thieves. Santa Ana is another sad story. No one even speaks English anymore there, except for one small surrounded area that was a formerly lovely neighborhood. It just steams me to think that we're forced to pay for the support of illegal aliens and we're forced to watch our towns turn into Tijuana clones.

Annex Mexico into the USA. Take the money we are sending all the terrorist countries and develop Mexico and Voila! Plenty of room and a beautiful country too. And they have plenty to develop. Just my 2 cent little opinion.
