[history]
Neil Young has been criticized by liberals for his stance.
Neil Young figured the music world would get on a roll with "Let's roll," Sept. 11's instant catchphrase for U.S. defiance against terrorism.
Amid the glut of musical spinoffs, Young's Let's Roll, a tribute to the passengers of doomed Flight 93, is the only Sept. 11 anthem to seize upon Todd Beamer's last known utterance.

In the words of Lynnrd Skynnrd:
Well Mr. Young should remember,
A Southern Man don't need him around anyhow.

This Southern guy has now forgiven him for "Southern Man." In fact, "Sweet Home Alabama" was already his payback. Neil Young is a true patriot.

hey neil. grow up, get a haircut, and if it wasn't for the tone deaf status of most rock n roll types, your voice is enough to scare a rabid cat.

I don't care for Neil Young, but I heard "Let's Roll" once, and it was really good. Even better than "Freedom".

"My heart wants one thing, my mind wants another," Young says. "Benjamin Franklin said that anyone who gives up essential liberties to preserve freedom is a fool, "but maybe he didn't conceive of nuclear warfare and dirty bombs."And Benjamin Franklin was infinitely correct.

OHIO
(from: So Far, CSNY)
Tin soldiers and Nixon's coming
We're finally on our own
This summer I hear the drumming
Four dead in Ohio
Gonna get down to it soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been down long ago
What if you knew her and found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know.
Gonna get down to it soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been down long ago
What if you knew her and found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know

Neil is the best. He's the Only rocker from the sixties that's still relevant (ok, maybe Dylan).

Neil Young has said that he regrets recording this song, and exploiting the tragedy at Kent State. I guess that's why he's gone out of his way to make "Let's Roll" free.

Maybe Dylan? How bout, definitely Dylan.

Did you know that Neil Young was an honorary pall bearer at Ronnie Van Zandt's funeral? They were actually good friends.
In the song "Ronnie and Neil" (plug for my favorite band here) by the Drive By Truckers, we hear:
Skynyrd was a bunch of Neil Young fans, and Neil, he loved that song (Sweet Home);
So he wrote "Powderfinger" for Skynyrd to record,
But ole Ronnie ended up singing Sweet Home Alabama to the Lord.
Kudos to Young, a Canadian, for standing up. This Southern man will always admire him. Plus, "Cortez the Killer" is one of my all-time faves.

Can't say about Dylan, I haven't heard his latest album. Does it stand up to his earlier stuff, or Blood on the Tracks?

Rock and roll is much more fun if you don't listen to the lyrics. Heck, with a lot of songs, like "Louie Louie" you can't understand them anyway. (Let's Roll, of course, is different, in a class by itself right now.)
To: colorado tanker
Totally agree with you-- I never listened to the words. It was the music that grabbed me.
To: meandog
You can listen to the song a his website.
