EuroTrash don't think. They are just farther down the road that our putrid PC U ofs have been taking us. For example, checkpoints at the University of Michigan to show how "demeaning" it is to show your ID. Note to total morons, try flying. Repeat after me "critical thought is the enemy of the sheeple".

OK, I am still pissed he didn't get the Pulitzer. But seeing who actually got it (TOM FRIEDMAN?, Pulitzers: hello, YOU MUST BE DRUNK, or ON CRACK, or SOMETHING)Never mind, who cares what those stupid bigots think. This is the first time I think I cried when I read a Steyn piece." What happens when Palestinian civilians strap on plastic explosives and head for Israeli pizza parlours? Europe says Israeli checkpoints for Palestinians are "humiliating". Palestinian Red Crescent ambulances permit themselves to be used as transportation for bombs and explosives - and Europe attacks Israel for refusing them free movement." Holy cow. Who knew that the "Never Again!" Europe promised us had a 50 year expiration date?

Exactomundo. Western Europe, demographically, is 50 years BEHIND America in a race to third world status. EASTERN Europe is 500 years behind us. We'll go down long before Europe does.

Good point, and it's one that Euro-bashing Freepers need to take into account- not that I agree with the European hand-wringing. Let's face it; if Israel was having problems with Africans instead of Palestinians do you think for a moment that US politicians would not pay very, VERY careful attention to the concerns of African-Americans? Better believe they would. And, while the Muslim population of Europe percentage-wise is less than half of the US black population, it's still a very important consideration over there, and I'm not really talking in terms of votes, I'm talking in terms of riot prevention.

Eastern Europe has already attained 3rd world status. One more example of the false correlation between demographics and national achievement.

Not true. Eastern Europe is considered by those who get paid to make such determinations Second World- excepting Albania. however, since Albania is predominantly Muslim, I hesitate to classify Albania as part of Europe. I guess you can't get around it. Anyway, if after 50+ years of Communism you're Second and not Third World you are probably doing quite well.

My parents came from Alberta and I still have many relatives up there. You're pretty close. :-)

I'd have never heard of Steyn if not for FR - but I agree that he's, if not the best, one of the best columnists I've ever read.

National Review frequently runs his columns. Here's a link to one of his better ones In the Absence of Guns that was printed in NR a couple of years back.
