I wish I could have made the dinner - that said I will be out in force tomorrow - 0530 STARTEX. Nighttime events present a problem when you live as far "south" as I do;-)

26th Marine Expeditionary Unit Returns from Afghanistan to Camp Lejune
< snip >But by firing lots of shots, they defended their positions from enemy probes, including one four-hour gun battle in January at the Kandahar airport and a 40-minute firefight at the encampment, called Camp Rhino, where Taliban and al-Qaida prisoners were detained before being flown to the Navy base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The Marines suffered no casualties from enemy fire, but nine Marines supporting their operations in Afghanistan did die: seven Jan. 9 in a KC-130 crash and two Jan. 20 in a CH-53 helicopter crash. < snip >

Bataan ARG arriving Sat. from record deployment
The Bataan amphibious ready group and its roughly 1,860 sailors will return to Norfolk Saturday after a record-setting, seven-month deployment. The ready group -- the amphibious assault ship Bataan, the amphibious transport dock Shreveport, and the dock landing ship Whidbey Island -- spent nearly four months of the deployment in the Arabian Sea, off the coast of Pakistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The ready group deployed Sept. 19.
The Bataan and Shreveport will be coming home to Norfolk Naval Station and the Whidbey Island to Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base. < snip >
