The parents are not charged with kidnapping their own children. Hope that helps.

Then I am unclear on what the article says.
The Christines, both 29, are on trial in Douglas County Circuit Court on charges of kidnapping, robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and custodial interference.
Can you explain this to me ?
To: Demidog
Are you saying the kidnapping charges have been dismissed?
Maybe the reporter that wrote this article is mixing tenses.
To: Demidog
Who are they charged with kidnapping ?
To: UCANSEE2
Are you saying the kidnapping charges have been dismissed? Yes and no. The kidnapping charges have been dropped in the case of the Children.

They were charged with kidnapping their children. The State, after Steele sucessfully showed that the Supreme Court of Oregon has already ruled that it is improper to charge a parent of kidnapping his own children have decided to drop the counts which include the children and charge them with kidnapping the county workers. This in spite of the fact that the county workers were not transported anywhere and no ransom was demanded.

Thank you. You have provided info that was not in the posted article. Now I understand where you were coming from. (I thought for a while one of us was crazy !).
Anyway, thanks for being understanding.

You are very gracious. But let's be clear, when I first said "how do you kidnap your own kids?" It was a matter of incredulity on the my part regarding the charges. I was asserting without any knowledge of what would occur with Steele's arguments. I didn't even know he'd argue the law in the manner he did let alone convince the State to drop the charges.
