Well, not out of the whole cloth; actually, Newt Gingrich said them. I've seen it four or five places on the internet so it must be so.
Politics is the art of the possible, which means it is necessary to strike alliances with people who agree with us on the basics. Excessive purism is a prescription for futility.
I haven't followed this story at all, but this sounds not unlike Keizo Obuchi in Japan who was more popular dead than he ever was as Prime Minister.
That is what I understood, yes. The story is a hoax........
Former Left Wing = Right Wing. OK?
In his article, Fortuyn wrote: "Paedophilia is just like hetero and homosexuality. It is something that is in the genes. There is little if anything that you can do about it or against it. You are who you are? sooner or later the proclivity makes its irresistible appearance. It is not any more curable than hetero or homosexuality."
The fact that this woman spent all her time shrilly shrieking that this was proof of his appoval of "paeodophelia" should have been an indication that she had an agenda and had lost all objectivity.
This is the man's opinion on those who prey on children and he may or may not be correct. It's quite likely that pedophiles are incurable.
This needs to be read. Fortuyn was evil, no conservative should support him just because he favored the free market.
Get rid of the myopia. Nobody should support criminal activities regardless of party affiliation, gender, race or religion. Or do you think it's okay for liberals and greens to support the likes of Fortuyn? How about Hindus or Catholics, is it okay for them to support Fortuyn? And what about blacks, hispanics and Asians, is it okay if they support Fortuyn? I think you get the point.
Likewise, it is wrong to discredit a person's valid position (such as free market) based on the persons other stance that supports criminal acts. Each position stands on its own merits and may be judge accordingly. As for a person judging how they want to think about Fortuyn, the whole package must be weighed.
IMO, any person that knowingly supports, advocates or perpetuates the initiation of force is unworthy of respect.
That is my understanding also.
I was kind of a fan of the guy, but this is quite a disappointment. Hopefully the members of his party aren't pedophiles or sympathetic toward pedophilia.
BTW, thanks for the ping. I didn't bother me a bit. I guess, though, that these mega-pings could be a problem if lots of folks sent them out with any regularity.
Looks like the "trigger man" last week found a cure.
Interesting. For a publication like Scotland on Sunday to make that kind of blunder is unusual, but not impossible I suppose. Since Elsevier Magazine is named as the source, if what you say is true, Scotland on Sunday has opened itself up to a lawsuit.
