I've read repeatedly that in the last 7-8 years whenever a conservative runs against a liberal in a republican primary that the RNC provides financial support to the liberal and discourages other people from supporting the conservative. So, obviously an ideological litimus test already exists. It is simply not described in that manner.

Problem is we can't agree on very many core issues and the party in Texas looks very little like the people who attend conventions. If you hold everyone to the platform that's fine, you will get the 20% of the vote that agrees with everything you write.

If a return to the gold standard is a "core" idea which Republican's are required to advocate, 20% may be generous. Withdrawl from the UN probably drops under 20% as well.

To me, the most important "core" value would involve a candidate elucidating his values and ideas to voters, then sticking to them. R's don't need to be held to a shopping list of "values" as do the dems.

Arizona that wants to start an organization called Root Out
All RINOs - ROAR - and they mean it.

amongst our current Senate membership?

It's the voters fault as well. Where I live it's predominately democrat land. The people love our rino pols because they bring home the bacon to the state. It's just disgusting how the people expect federal money to come home to them. If the pols do a good enough job of this~ they get reelected.

I found part of the thread. Since lone star annie hasn't returned to respond, I thought I would give a partial defence.

While a many may paint her as a liberal from DU, consider what is actually being suggested. Quite a few people here always complain that the DEMs march in lock step, or are having their arms twisted by Daschle, etc. What I see happening here is formalizing the same thing. Mean-spirited or not, intolerant or not, at the very least, it comes off as sounding hypocritical.

This will be fine with that segment of the party who loves to lose while not giving an inch on anything.....

Otherwise known as The Unappeaseables, this group wants to start kicking people out of the party because they don't tow the line 100%.

Reminds me of some members of my Catholic Church. They want the Pope to start excommunicating massive numbers of people because they're sinners.

This is how I see it.

I've held my nose and pulled the lever many times. I didnt hold my nose with Bush, I really thought he'd make a great president but he's turned out to do more to devolve conservatism than any RAT could have.

After holding your nose enough times you reach the point of diminishing returns. It's gotten to the point where what used to be my "party" is becoming part of the problem instead of part of the solution. I'd swear over the last year or so the bastards are working for the other side.

It's like in war. If your vehicles or supplies are going to fall into the hands you destroy them. If the GOP is here to give us a larger, more intrusive government that ignores the constitution and brings us more quasi (or real) socialism BURN IT DOWN

I guess these purity litmus tests would depend on how they are used. For example say that a candidate agrees with 85 of 100 points in a party platform. A wise man would weigh that in how he votes. A fool would disqualify him for not agreeing with 100 of the 100. An idiot would consider only the 15 in disagreement, ignoring the rest.

I am NOT seeing any difference between Jumpin' Jim Jeffords and Dubya...

Last year in Dallas, I heard Keyes speak...and he pissed off so many FReepers...but you know...he was right...he said that when GW sold out to the embryo research...he compromised his principles...and you know...Keyes was right...GW has sold us out...right on down the line...in the name of WHAT?

What is he doing? He has "slapped" every Texan in the face, he has spit on every conservative, he has stolen the votes of Republicans...

WHO in their RIGHT mind is gonna DEFEND this, justify this and or ACCEPT this???

Seems to me the trip to Dallas and the Republican Convention is going to be a waste of MY time, money, patience, and principles!
