Catholic Caucus - Proclaim the Truth!
Dearest friends,
Two days ago Monsignor Eugene Clark stood in the preeminent pulpit of the Catholic Church in the United States of America at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City and proclaimed the truth regarding the abuses committed by some priests. He went straight to the heart of the matter, which is homosexuality. There are many who don't want to hear the truth as well as those who don't want to publicize the truth.
Already we have seen the Archdiocese of New York distance itself from Monsignor Clark (Archdiocese Responds to Sermon), the homosexual activists attempt to keep the truth from getting out (CONTROVERSY IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH: Homosexuals start to attack Crisis), and nominal Catholics quoted in the mainstream media as not agreeing with the Monsignor.
Last evening I attended a class given by a long-time friend and colleague of Monsignor Clark. He had spoken with the Monsignor on Friday and knew he would be celebrating the Cardinal's Mass at St. Patrick's on Sunday, but Msgr. Clark had not told him about the content of his homily. Well, on his way to work yesterday, this priest caught the headline of the NY Daily News - Priest Blasts Gays - and was elated. One of my classmates had inquired if Monsignor Clark has an e-mail address and his friend replied, "He still uses a quill." The only fax machine is the general fax machine for St. Patrick's Cathedral. However, his friend said that the Monsignor loves letters and encouraged all of us to write letters of support to Monsignor Clark, as well as cc'ing the Cardinal so that he is aware of all the support for the Monsignor and his courageous stand.
I know FReepers are accustomed to the almost instantaneous response time of the Internet, but please take the few extra minutes necessary to print out a letter of support and mail it to Monsignor Clark (and send a copy to Cardinal Egan). Their addresses are:
Monsignor Eugene Clark
460 Madison Avenue
New York, NY 10022-6863
Cardinal Edward Egan
452 Madison Avenue
New York, NY 10022-6864
A few threads regarding the Monsignor's homily (If I have missed any, please post a link on this thread - thanks.):

Well said. I hope Monsignor Clark does not wield to pressure and back down from the statements he made in his homily.
Well, I was just reading a recently posted thread (GAY-BASH HOMILY DIDN'T HAVE EGAN BLESSING) and he is still holding his ground. It is all the more reason we need to send him our support.
I have one question: is there any special way to address a monsignor (like "Your Excellency" for a bishop)? Thanks !!!
"People need to know that there is no place in the priesthood and religious life for those who would harm the young. They must know that Bishops and priests are totally committed to the fullness of Catholic truth on matters of sexual morality, a truth as essential to the renewal of the priesthood and the episcopate as it is to the renewal of marriage and family life."Thank you for the ping.
That's a good question. I don't know the answer, but from this thread Romulus posted the following information:
According to my 1969 edition of the Catholic Almanac (Askel wondered once why I'd kept it all these years), forms of address are as follows:Cardinals: His Eminence (Christian Name), Cardinal (Surname).; (if he is an archbishop or bishop, include the Title of his see.); Your Eminence; Asking the blessing of Your Eminence, I am, Yours respectfully, (Name).
Archbishops and Bishops: The Most Rev. (Name); Arch(bishop) of (Title of his see.); Your Exellency; Asking the Your Exellency's blessing, I am, Yours respectfully, (Name).
Romulus, does your almanac say anything about forms of address for Monsignors?
BUMP
