Ehhh...well...maybe...I just...I mean...at this point, it's gotta be someone who's unimpeachable. I mean, I totally believe that these guy's would destroy Lieberman if they thought they could. Yeah? It's not like the seat's in play. It's not like it's suddenly going be to be a red state. So, hey, let's give Lieberman to the slaughter. One of the few democrats most of us can agree we like, might as well get rid of him if you're, you know, Mr. Dean (YEEEEHAAA!).

I'd go for Ollie North for the position. But like that's gonna happen. It's fun to dream, anyway.

I don't know if he's one of the good guys or not. But he IS a former high level police administrator from the liberal northeast. Whatdaya wanna bet he's not too friendly in his regard for the 2nd Amendment as it applies to ownersip of personal defense firearms? We flat out don't need an antigunner as head of DHS.

"he rose quickly through the ranks of the NYPD and was resented by many of them."

Thats all true, but it doesn't mean that his critics within the department were wrong.

They dropped Berger as a Kerry advisor..The Senate confirmation process would have been been a doozy if he had been nominated.

Ya know, alot of us prayed for Bush to have 4 more years for the good of America and God heard and answered. I for one, just want what's absolutely best for our country - we can't always see it, but God can. I pray for the best man for the job to get the job.

I would bet that the majority of moderate to well-to-do New Yorkers have hired illegal immigrants at one time or another.

This only goes to show how ridiculous the status quo is. Either stop this illegal invasion or open the borders. This is a farce.

It's simple. The guy is too slimy to be confirmed, all parties
realize this fact, it's Friday night, great time to solve this little problem.

Only a vacuum cleaned and past shredded spook could get through a tough nomination clean.

Nobody is that clean naturally.

This guy had a rough past and achieved great things with it. I doubt he never bent a few rules or climbed over a few backs to do it.

But, that is probably the kind of person we need at this time, and we will never get one.

who said he hid it. He likely got the paperwork required to clear the confirmation, something about this appeared, he asked his wife "what do we know about the nanny"? and then when he couldn't fill out the application honestly, he withdrew.

I'm not buying the nannygate excuse either. It could be something much worse. I thought the guy was great but not great enough to be in the cabinet. Going from police commissioner to cabinet secretary seems a pretty big leap to me. Kind of like promoting a colonel to chief of staff.

What did we really know about Bernard Kerik prior to 9/11?

Why should there be a problem with an illegal? We want to give them driver's licenses, health-care, let them vote, etc.
What's really going on here?

We needed a guy like this in that job.

I'm not through this entire thread but why do we need a guy like this in that job? I love his personal story and was thrilled that he was nominated. Then I read about personal bankruptcy, abandoned children (though he did want and is apparently making that right), questionable uses of authority in previous positions, the millions of dollars made and now maybe hiring illegals? It seems every stop of his career includes some pretty serious charges, we don't need that.

Who is not an opportunist in pol? The reason Bush cut him loose was that the dirt got heavy, someone knew he would do a good job, make the country safer --- and we can't have that can we...
