KEYES PLANNING TO RUN! (Accepts GOP IL Senate Bid)
Chicago Sun Times ^ | 8/05/4 | Scott Fornek

Let the debates begin.

Former Presidential hopeful Dr. Alan Keyes has told Illinois Republicans that he would accept their request to take on Democrat Barack Obama in the US Senate race.

Members of the Republican State Central Committee insisted that the former radio and television commentator make the promise to run before they would give him the nod Wednesday night, sources told the Chicago Sun Times on Thursday.

The Republicans were leery of voting to give Keyes the nomination without some guarantees.

So he went back into the room and bascially said, 'If you offer, than I will accept.'

Another GOP source said that Keyes had agreed to accept the nomination but told the committee that he wanted to wait until he could publicly announce it at a 'campaign style' rally on Sunday.

'He told them that he would do it,' the source said. 'he just wanted to take a few days to put things together and make his announcement.'

"He will draw media attention to the race"

I don't think Keyes can win this race, not enough time to do it.

Before Keyes was invited in, this race was one that Obama would win because there was no one running against him...no national coverage because it wasn't newsworthy.

Now, it's going to get national coverage, and Obama will come off as defeating the GOP's "hired gun", an outsider sent in by the National Party against a native son.

This race will become Obama's launch into the VP slot in 2008.

Speaker Hastert already said he would do fundraisers for Ambassador Keyes..

I was expecting this kind of support for Keyes' campaign, but I'd love to get your source for this information.

Cheers,

Richard F.

I know that Keyes is not from Ill. is Barack Obama?

Obama has lived here for about 12 years, and has represented the 13th state senate district since 1996.

I still think the debates are going to be very fun to watch.

Except I bet they'll all be moderated by that annoying Tavis Smiley.

It would be great to see Keyes take out the proclaimed Demorat party's "Rock Star" and his huge warchest.

I have a great respect for Alan Keyes for his high intelligence and excellent communications skills. Here's wishing him the best in his run.

Not exactly. But there are those of us who are actually from Illinois who:

a) understand the actual situation on the ground, and

b) really resent the party importing an East Coaster instead of supporting a local candidate by putting their money where their mouths are.

Well it's about time we got some positive news....now let's turn the Obama Wonder into Bad Luck Barack...it's be a battle but it'll be worth it.

Will Bush make a swing through in support? White House support is going to be necessary to overcome Obama's head start.

They said the same thing in Oklahoma about Dr. Tom Coburn -- not enough time to win his primary. He won with 61% of the vote because the Oklahoma grassroots got out and worked and worked to make sure that he won against the establishment candidate.

We were much more energized and the results showed.

Time for Illinois Grassroots to kick in high gear and spread the word.

Oooh, how impressive. You're really actually from Illinois? Actually?

You are an honorary member of Obama's cheerleading squad.

My understanding of the situation was that after the Jack Ryan situation, and Mike Ditka not running, they didnt have anyone to put up. I'm well aware of the carpetbagging concerns, but I think he will do better than some here are predicting......just wait until the debates! :)

I'm with you. Prayers are needed to ask for favor from the Lord for Keyes. Upright men are hard to find.

Exactly so and even though Obama wasn't born in Ill.,he's lived there for at least a decade and is a prof at U of C and a state senator.

Obama is NOT part of Jesse Jackson's mafia, either. So goodbye to that "taint".

Oberweiss should have been given the slot.He came in second,in the GOP primary,is Conservative, and wouldn't have given as much fuel to the damned Dems.
