"A molecular biologist, a geneticist, and an organic chemist..."

...are at a bar discussing a sample of DNA...

Sorry, sounded like the buildup to a good joke. (well A joke; not sure how good it would have been.) :)

Darwin may have been an agnostic or even an atheist, but nothing in the theory of Natural Selection precludes a Creator.

Aha! I think I figured it out! You made a totally unsupported statement, without any real purpose, called it a contention (rather than some other thesaurus-derived synonym), and it resulted in 100-odd posts!

Take two statements.

A is non-falsifiable.

Evidence contrary to A is being suppressed.

They clearly contradict each other. Both cannot be true. If A is non-falsifiable, there can be no contrary evidence. If there is contrary evidence, A is falsifiable.

Saying they are both contentions for the purpose of argument when they were stated back to back in the same very short paragraph is a lame attempt to backtrack to repair a mistake and save face.

He acts as if *contention* is somehow different than *claim* or *statement* or *argument* in this context. Or that because an assertion doesn't need to have evidence to support it to be called an assertion that this means that any old assertion is as good as any other. It's really very postmodernist of him.

I don't think a jury would buy it. If I was on trial for my life and had an attorney who defended like this, I'd appeal my inevitable conviction based on incompetent defense.

Actually after the Tsunami some of the primitive tribes that were not known to exist and were discovered on small uncharted islands of Indonesia were existing quite well without time. They have no concept of time nor is there any reference to it in their language or habits. I haven't found much reference on the Internet but watched it on TV and the news. They are being observed. What one can find on the Internet are tribes that are studied in South America that are without the concept of numbers or math. It might appear that the concept of time and numbers are a concept of man that has not always existed and were thought for mans benefit or that if God did it he excluded some.

I have to apologize to you.

I've been going back and forth with Carolina guitarman on another thread, and my frustration with him has spilled over onto you.

You (along with him) had asked questions of me in that Darwin thread, but you had NOT been abusive to me as I wrongly thought you had been.

You've every right to be upset with me.

Again I say I'm sorry.

Evolution is Not Anti-Religous. The hostility of creationists toward the sciences that deal with human and cosmic origins stems from fundamentalist conviction that evolution threatens religion. This is not true.

Yeah; sure.... Tell it to THIS guy......

Charles Darwin (1809-1882)

"By further reflecting that the clearest evidence would be requisite to make any sane man believe in the miracles by which Christianity is supported,—and that the more we know of the fixed laws of nature the more incredible do miracles become,—that the men at that time were ignorant and credulous to a degree almost incomprehensible by us,—that the Gospels cannot be proven to have been written simultaneously with the events,—that they differ in many important details, far too important, as it seemed to me to be admitted as the usual inaccuracies of eye witnesses;—by such reflections as these, which I give not as having the least novelty or value, but as they influenced me, I gradually came to disbelieve in Christianity as a divine revelation. The fact that many fake religions have spread over large portions of the earth like wildfire had some weight with me. But I was very unwilling to give up my belief; I feel sure of this, for I can remember often and often inventing day-dreams of old letters between distinguished Romans, and manuscripts being discovered at Pompeii or elsewhere, which confirmed in the most striking manner all that was written in the Gospels. But I found it more and more difficult, with free scope given to my imagination, to invent evidence which would suffice to convince me. Thus disbelief crept over me at a very slow rate, but was at last complete. The rate was so slow that I felt no distress, and have never since doubted even for a single second that my conclusion was correct."

( Charles Darwin in his Autobiography of Charles Darwin, Dover Publications, 1992, p. 62. )

Charles Darwin (1809-1882)

"I think that generally (& more & more as I grow older), but not always, that an agnostic would be the most correct description of my state of mind."

( Quoted from Adrian Desmond and James Moore, Darwin: The Life of a Tormented Evolutionist, New York: W. W. Norton & Company, 1991, p. 636. )

NIV Proverbs 4:13
Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.

NIV Hebrews 3:6
But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.

NIV Hebrews 3:14
We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.

NIV Hebrews 6:11
We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure.

NIV Hebrews 12:3
Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

NIV 2 Timothy 2:11-13
 11.  Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him;
 12.  if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us;
 13.  if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

NIV 2 Peter 2:20-21
 20.  If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.
 21.  It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them.

NIV 2 John 1:8
Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.

NIV Jude 1:21

NIV Revelation 2:25
Only hold on to what you have until I come.

NIV Revelation 3:11
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.

I wasn't abusive. You just wouldn't provide an answer that didn't insult our intelligence.

Your position is now quite plain. :)

If you actually READ what Darwin was saying, you would know that he lost his faith not because of evolution but because the theology just didn't make sense to him anymore.

Very few people have heard the voice of God telling them to be nice to their neighbors and even to their enemies.

Don't really need a VOICE when we've already got the WORD of God.

NIV Romans 12:16-18
 16.  Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.  Do not be conceited.
 17.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.
 18.  If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

NIV Ephesians 4:25
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.

NIV Colossians 3:8-10
   8.  But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
   9.  Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices
 10.  and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

NIV 2 Timothy 2:19
Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."

NIV 1 Peter 3:11
He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.

NIV 1 John 4:21
And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.

Jesus might make a fine Savior, but I'm certainly not going to use him as my science teacher...

You don't have to; but I do, however, recommend Him as Counselor!

You know how Stalin dealt with religious believers and other "nuts and troublemakers" don't you? He had them confined to psychiatric hospitals or shot. There isn't the slightest doubt in my mind that if the three branches of our government were controlled by people sympathetic to the ACLU, within ten years religious believers in this country would be rounded up like cattle and liquidated to "improve the species."

Ideas have consequences. Evil ideas have evil consequences. That's the lesson of the 20th Century, when social Darwinism and atheism controlled more than half the earth's population and genocide became all the rage.

Maybe they got tired of being rounded up, liquidated, and hung as witches so that others could protect their faith and belief.
