School Shooting injures one person,
Hostage situation may be developing.
Update: Multiple Shooting Victims and Possible Hostages in Lancaster County
Not many details available yet, but an incident has been reported from Mine Rd. in Bart Township in Lancaster County involving multiple gunshot victims. Dennis Buterbaugh reports live from our newsroom. abc27 has a news crew on the way. We will update with details as they become available.
Update 2: Pennsylvania Police: Amish School is 'Horrendous Crime Scene' After Shooting
NICKEL MINES, Pa. — At least two female students and one slightly older female — who may have been a teacher's aide — were shot and killed execution style in what police say may be a revenge killing for something that happened 20 years ago.
State Police Commissioner Jeffrey Miller said Monday that truck driver Charles Carl Roberts IV entered the one-room Amish schoolhouse in earlier in the day. The gunman brought in pieces of wood to board up the doors to the building when he entered the school. He also stacked desks against the building's doors.
"It appears that the suspect entered school with the intention of taking hostages," Miller said.
Roberts had wire ties and plastic flex cuff, which he used to begin tying the hostages feet together after they were lined up along a blackboard. He let go 15 male students, as well as one adult female who was pregnant. Three other non-student females with infants were also allowed to leave. One shotgun and one handgun was found next to the suspect when police entered the building.
"It seems as though he wanted to attack young, female victims," Miller said.
After a half hour inside, Roberts began shooting. When the gunfire stopped, three females were found shot dead at the scene, along with the suspect, who shot himself, Miller said. At least seven more victims — some critically wounded — were transported to nearby hospitals, he said. One victim, a young girl, died in the arms of a trooper, Miller said. He could not confirm how many people died en route or at the hospital. The county coroner earlier reported six children killed but then backed off of that statement.

I don't think it has anything to do with any teaching going on in the classrooms.
Time after time the young angry kids turn out to be social loners who feel ignored at home and who feel they are made fun of at school. They play violent video games - they listen to Marilyn Manson and other suicidal hard rock music. They fantasize about killing the kids who make fun of them.They group together with likeminded disaffected kids.
In some cases (such as Columbine) they actually manage to fill their room with an arsenal of weapons without the the knowledge of clueless parents (would YOUR kid be able to collect guns/grenades, keep them in their room - and you never suspect a thing?)
Afterwards when the police go through their stuff they leave behind strange rantings against their classmates about society and obsessions with death.
I've never read about a shooter leaving behind rantings about not liking the class subject matter or about creation/evolution.
I do know the Columbine shooters despised God and shot one girl who said she believed in Him.
It isn't one thing we can point to...it is a bunch of sad circumstances that come together in the mind of an unbalanced kid.
But these recent shootings are noew...the shooters are older.They're done with school, and for some reason they return. The kids they are shooting have had nothing to do with their lives.
I doubt this has had anything to do with subject matter in the classroom either.
Wow. I am sure the PSP is all over every incident involving the Amish; their children, etc. I wonder if the killer drives a pick up? Maybe it wasn't him, but maybe he was questioned, fit a general description, etc., and that was the 'something' that set off his rage against little girls and/or the Amish.
I just don't buy that this school was "convenient" for him. something else was up with this guy, IMO.
Please read Sisku Hanne's post at 1720 about a recent incident in their area. I have heard twice now (different media sources) about the killer's mood having 'darkened' which I find to be an odd choice of wording. Was he ususally moody and just got more so, or did he have some kind of breakdown? No explanations given yet...but I am sure more will come out as time passes.

Was this from the 10 a.m (approx. time) press conference? Or a statement issued from the killer's family?
Presser: Roberts expressed hatred for himself and for God. Dreams of molesting again.
Now. They have not identified the alleged victims of his confession.

The more facts that come out, the more I'm prone to speculate. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was the same man who tried to get the Amish girl into his vehicle. Her refusal to go with him would have been a real slap in the face, from his perspective.

Five unnamed victims remain hospitalized.
Presser - Perp had been having dreams lately of molesting again. However, police could find no prior allegations of molestation involving the perp, and family members could recall no incidents.
This is just awful, I work at one of the hospitals that the children were sent to. I have never seen that place so subdued. May God heal the hearts of these parents.
