Unless you are the moderator get off my back.

Like I said, the moderators have asked this to stay on topic of the Amish victims.

Blue Jays, I don't disagree that the liberal left is sick in the way of taking advantage of situations. But What I was hearing in the posts were questions such as "is there gun legislation on the table?" , "...this is an election year". These statements seem to have been making some association between these events and gun legislation or elections. I think that's a bit nutty. Now, from your perspective, I agree. The liberals are going to say that guns are evil, and they are killing our children. They should be banned, locked up or destroyed. The day those kooks come for my weapon is the day you'll see me on the news causing a siege of one.

BykrBayb, I understood your meaning, and found no fault in it whatsoever. I am somewhat in the same boat as you in that I would like people to find more courage in situations such as these instead of running in fear. A courage multiplier, for the Teachers anyway, might be allowing them to conceal and carry within the school. Or, if that doesn't fly with most people, post police watches on the schools. One or two officers per school shouldn't be too much of a burden. They don't even have to patrol within the school, just outside of it, either on foot or on bike.

With all due respect I didn't say anywhere to accuse these people of anything. Only that people who are anti-social are known to be prone to violence. There is nothing wrong with keeping a closer eye on someone you might suspect as dangerous. Making false accusations is a completely different matter, and the witches in Salem didn't have the luxery of a fair and balanced judicial system that we have today.

I thought of that also. One armed guard can get the drop on a perp, if the perp isn't aware of the guards location, or doesn't plan to take him out. I agree that a very well thought out plan would include taking out the guard, but many of these incidents are not very well thought out. Only a few were. Therefore, it is my opinion that an armed guard, as you stated, gives an appearance of added security that may thwart some attackers.

Dang, this has turned into an ugly thread. Is there another, somewhere else?

I think I heard something today a little different. But along that line, I have heard that Amish teenagers are given a time in which they can do as they wish and then they are given the opportunity to come back to the group. Ibelieve I saw a documentary on this a few years back.

I think that many people are looking at his back ground in order to see the why in what he did. It might help explain things. I don't know that they are looking to make excuses. At least taht is why I am interested.

There are a couple scattered about. Maybe someone could start a thread that is just for news about how the injured are doing, how the families are coping and how assistance can be rendered.

The little high school we have here in our very small, safe town, has a trooper stationed in it every day for the length of the school day. He's ALWAYS in the cafeteria/lobby during lunchtime talking with the kids. I've even seen some of the jr high kids sneak looks over at him just before they start fooling around, to see if he's looking.

His presence seems to have a taming effect. The kids also seem to be on very good terms with him; there are always some chatting with him.

Funny thing is, this IS the type of community where we wouldn't expect something like this to happen and yet we have an armed trooper stationed here every day.

. . .no, I understand that. . .and of course, there is always the 'why'.

But bottom, line. . .it is the simple lack of Reason; that moves people to these kind of acts; and try as we may to understand it. . .(he was 'angry at God'. . .he was probbly molested and a molester as well, as a child. ..he hated himself. . .)

But try as we may to label the unfathomable; so as to make it more comprehensible. . .we will never understand the 'why' of these heinous crimes.

Personally think giving reasoned if not sympatahetic explanations; along with every salalcious detail; and mega media attention. . .insures that another sicko will see his reflection; identify with the 'malaise'; feel justified and consider his options for the same fame. . .

That said. . .I understand the need to try and understand. I am trying as well.

Another one who needs to read this essay:

I ONLY HANG WITH SHEEPDOGS

I teach in a violent inner city high school. I don't carry a gun at work mainly because I don't feel the need for a gun here and it's against the law and schoolboard policy. Matter settled. However, having said that...every other time I set foot outside my home, I'm armed. No mouseguns, either. Either a 40 or a 45 and at least one spare magazine. I just put a Crimson Trace Lasergrip on my Glock last night. CRIMSON TRACE

We're in a war. What don't you "get" about that? The war has already drawn blood on home soil. It's not just about terrorism, it's a war against evil. It is without a doubt...evil to murder children. I'm a sheepdog. Armed or not, I am not going to just stand by and allow the murder of innocents. Being well armed and trained just makes the outcome more certain and decisive. But the real key to such an epic conflict is mindset. The will to ACT in a crisis and act decisively. Are you willing and able to "act?" If not, stand back and let the sheepdogs thru...oh and give them the tools they need to do the job.

I hope I can never even come close to understanding just what could have crawled into this man's mind and soul to rot him to the core in such a manner.
