Terri Schiavo's mother Mary Schindler is like another Mary -- forced to watch her child die, a spiritual adviser to the Schindler family said on Tuesday.
Brother Paul O'Donnell spoke on Tuesday after a federal judge refused an emergency request to reinsert Terri's feeding and hydration tube.
"During this week, as we look to Good Friday, all Mary the mother of Christ could do was stand at her child's side. He was condemned by unjust courts, the same way Terri Schaivo is being condemned to die by court order.
"We pray that this modern-day crucifixion will not happen and we have faith that Terri will be liberated, and we are not giving up hope," O'Donnell added.
Terri's parents are described as devout Roman Catholics.
In comments outside the Pinellas Park, Fla., hospice, O'Donnell said what's happening inside is heart-breaking:
"Her own mother cannot offer her daughter an ice chip in her mouth to make her comfortable," he said. "Her own mother, in the United States of America, cannot go in and comfort her and prop pillows under her, or rub lotion to her body. Her own mother cannot be at her side without being watched by armed police officers -- in the United States of America."
To be honest, I have to agree.
I'm starting to fear the culture warriors as much as I fear folks like John Kerry, Janet Reno, and Al Gore. That's just how it is. I don't like abortion, I don't like some of these imperial judges, but this has turned into a mess. I have seen the long knives out for RICK SANTORUM of all people.
If Buckhead's Post 47 and taking down Dan Rather was the high point of Free Republic, the Terri Schiavo situation is rapidly becoming Free Republic's low point, in my opinion. It gives me NO PLEASURE to say this, but I feel compelled to say so.
To put a Clausewitzian gloss on hchutch's remarks, Free Republic has passed its culminating point.
I have pretty much said my piece about this. I am not going to get into arguments with people or disparage people on either side.
I'm not at all comfortable with that, either. Having said that, I've seen a certain politician compared to Christ here - so better her than him, I suppose.
People are losing control. I don't want her to die, but someone here called for a petition for sainthood today.
Just...out there.
Oh Good Lord!! That's IT!
"Save Terri" advocates are officially nuts now.
I couldn't agree with you more.
Well, if this is what FR has become, so be it. I thought we were better than that and was proud of this place. Not anymore.
Well, I've been told in no uncertain terms I'm a member of the FR Death Squad.
Wow. I didn't know there was such a thing. I gotta get up to speed. : )
I really have no words for this, none.
Call the 11th circuit court of appeals in Atlanta. Tell the clerk where you're calling from and say politely that you are begging the court to save Terri Schiavo's life.
That # is 404-335-6100 .
Yes, I have seen that, and I don't like that, either.
You know what I want to know. We all know that Rush, Sean etc., get their talking points from FR.
And since so many of the posts around here are pure gobbleygook, that's what Sean and Rush have been spouting.
I wonder how many of the posters around here spreading the more malicious of the lies about this matter are newbies or old sleeper cells and are deliberately creating dissension on Free Republic. Reporters from the Washington Post, for example.
Because truly, Freepers used to be much smarter than this.
Now I have people asking if people on dialysis should be put to death too. It's gotten more and more ridiculous and I just don't think all these freepers are that dumb. They are being egged on by some core group.
Yeah I am pretty new here (posting not lurking) but the whole deal just scares me. I avoid posting in any thread relating to "Terri" because any rational thought is shot down.
Sad to say it but finally when either she passes on or custody is given to her parents this will not end.
Speak for yourself: I haven't posted gobbleygook at all. :-)
I agree that the extremist rhetoric doesn't help much, but why do you dispute the federal role in the case? I have no problem with that at all.
Why do you overstate the damage to the GOP? I don't think there is much evidence that this will have any residual impact on the GOP much past a month from now, let alone the 2005, 2006, or 2008 elections.
A*s.
