Does Iran Already Have Nuclear Weapons? (From Various Sources)

Posted on 02/15/2006 5:19:42 AM PST by maquiladora

With all the talk of Iran being anything from a few months to a decade away from producing their own nuclear weapons, you may be surprised to find that there is a great deal of material dating back several years which may prove or at least point to the fact that Iran already has nuclear weapons and has had them for some time.

I will present below the evidence from various sources, with links to the full articles.

----------

"Iran does have nuclear weapons", General Yuri Baluyevsky, the Russian Deputy Chief of Staff told journalists, adding: "Of course, these are non-strategic nuclear weapons. I mean these are not ICBMs with a range of more than 5,500 kilometers and more. But as a military man, I see no danger of aggression against Russia by Iran."
http://www.iran-press-service.com/articles_2002/Jun_2002/iran_has_nuke_6602.htm

----------

Goss, who came to Ankara just after FBI Director Robert Mueller’s visit, brought up Iran’s alleged attempts to develop nuclear weapons. It was said that Goss first told Ankara that Iran has nuclear weapons and this situation was creating a huge threat for both Turkey and other states in the region.

----------

According to Iranian government documents in Israel's possession, Iran received several nuclear warheads from a former Soviet republic during the early 1990s, THE JERUSALEM POST reported.
The documents have been deemed authentic by United States congressional experts and are still being studied in Israel. They contain correspondence between Iranian government officials and leaders of Iran's Revolutionary Guards that discusses Iran's successful efforts to obtain nuclear warheads from former Soviet republics. The documents appear to bolster reports from 1992 that Iran received enriched uranium and up to four nuclear warheads from Kazakhstan, with help from the Russian underworld.

----------

Despite the fact that the CIA recently reported that Iran was only 10 years away from acquiring a nuclear bomb, Timmerman said Iran has had the capability to produce the necessary fissile material since 1995. That’s when China gave Iran the blueprints to build a uranium conversion facility.
Timmerman postulated that in the last 10 years, Iran has been able to make enough fissile material for 20 to 25 nuclear bombs.

----------

Guiora, who holds dual U.S.-Israeli citizenship, served for 19 years in the Israel Defense Forces Judge Advocate General Corps. He has negotiated repeatedly with the Palestinians, including the safe passage agreement between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
Both he and Brauner maintain that Iran, not the Palestinians, present the gravest threat to Israel. Iran has nuclear warheads, scattered in some 20 sites, Guiora said. This makes it difficult to remove them in a single strike, as Israel did by bombing Iraq’s nuclear reactor near Baghdad in 1981.

----------

1992 Iran acquires nuclear weapons "ready for immediate use" from CIS countries, according to the German weekly Focus. The weapons are reportedly "an atom bomb which can be dropped from an airplane and a launcher for missiles with nuclear warheads."
http://www.nti.org/e_research/profiles/Iran/1825_1869.html

----------

February 1992. The Washington, DC-based Defense and Foreign Affairs Strategic Policy newsletter reports Iran is within two months of reassembling nuclear warheads acquired from the former Soviet Union. Iran has hired nuclear scientists from Kazakhstan.
http://www.nti.org/e_research/profiles/Iran/1825_1869.html

----------

March 1992. A US Republican task force reports that Iran has possessed all of the necessary components to build a nuclear bomb since December 1991.
http://www.nti.org/e_research/profiles/Iran/1825_1869.html

----------

March 1992. Paul Muenstermann, vice president of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND), says that Iran received two of three nuclear warheads and medium-range nuclear delivery systems that are missing from Kazakhstan. Iranian officials and the commander of the CIS Joint Armed Forces reject these claims. Russian General Victor Samoilov, however, who handles disarmament issues for the CIS general staff, admits that three nuclear warheads were missing from Kazakhstan. Also, Iran allegedly purchased four 152mm nuclear shells from the former Soviet Union, which were allegedly stolen and sold by former Soviet Army officers. The Iranian Foreign Ministry denies these allegations. Lt. General Sergey Zalentsov, senior commander of the United Armed Forces of the CIS and deputy-in-charge of all CIS nuclear arms, also rejects the reports. Iran reportedly received the warheads from Kazakhstan through Bulgaria. However, Iran did not receive the necessary launch codes or missiles capable of carrying the warheads.
http://www.nti.org/e_research/profiles/Iran/1825_1869.html

----------

US magazine US News and World Report quotes an unidentified high-ranking Russian officer as substantiating a US intelligence report that three short-range nuclear weapons have disappeared from an arsenal in Kazakhstan. The US magazine reports the weapons have been sold to Iran.
http://www.nti.org/e_research/profiles/Iran/1825_1869.html

----------

April 1992. The European of London reports that the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service has said that Iran definitely received two warheads stolen from Semipalatinsk. The report says that the organization selling the weapons had ties to Kazakhstan President Nursaltan Nazarbayev.
http://www.nti.org/e_research/profiles/Iran/1825_1869.html

----------

May 1992 Russian television reports that Russian intelligence has told the CIA that two nuclear warheads from Semipalatisk, Khazakhstan, were sold to Iran and another unknown Middle East country with the permission of Kazakhstani President Nazarbayev. The warheads are of a capacity ranging from 2 to 5 kilotons.
http://www.nti.org/e_research/profiles/Iran/1825_1869.html

----------

December 1992, Two Iranian diplomats discuss via telephone the acquisition of four nuclear warheads by Iran from one of the Central Asian republics of the former Soviet Union. The two diplomats are identified as an Iranian Foreign Ministry official Abdolrahmani, who is in charge of relations with the Central Asian republics of the former Soviet Union, and Iranian Deputy Sirus Nasiri Tabatabai-Kia, who is second in command in the Iranian delegation to United Nations institutions and international organizations in Geneva. In the tapped phone conversation between Abdolrahmani and Tabatabai-Kia, which is obtained from an European intelligence service, Abdolrahmani confirms that one of the Muslim republics of the former Soviet Union sold four warheads to Iran. Tabatabai-Kia notes that the purchases "completed their mission in the best possible way." Abdolrahmani says that the warheads had not arrived because of a problem with transportation, and that he does not know how much the warheads cost because "some other guy arranged the issue of the payment." In the course of the conversation, the names of Iranian President Rafsanjani's brother-in-law Hajj Mohsen Rafij, and the Iranian defense minister Akbar Torkan are mentioned in connection with the sale.
http://www.nti.org/e_research/profiles/Iran/1825_1869.html

----------

March 1993, The Arms Control Reporter reports that by December 1991, Iran had imported four nuclear weapons from the former Soviet Union, including a nuclear artillery shell, two nuclear warheads that could be launched on Scud missiles, and one nuclear weapon that could be delivered by a MiG-27 aircraft. The report says that fissile material was exported from Kazakhstan to Iran and the rest of the components were exported from other republics of the former Soviet Union through Turkmenistan. Although the codes to arm the warheads were not provided with the missiles, the report says two experts from Russia arrived to bypass arming codes.
http://www.nti.org/e_research/profiles/Iran/1825_1870.html

---------- 11 April 1998, Labor MK Rafi Elul says that Israel and the United States have suspected for years that Iran acquired nuclear weapons smuggled from the former Soviet Union. Elul reportedly met with an unknown US source, reportedly with longtime connections to the Israeli government, in March 1998 who said that in 1995 she gave both the CIA and Israel Iranian government documents on Iran's successful efforts to obtain nuclear weapons.
http://www.nti.org/e_research/profiles/Iran/1825_1875.html

----------

Following a series of Jerusalem Post articles saying that Iran acquired nuclear weapons from the former Soviet Union, two US Congressmen, Jim Saxton and Bill McCollum, say that they have closely followed Iran's military programs and that Iran "has obtained nuclear weapons as well as established a ballistic missile command-and-control system to launch them."
http://www.nti.org/e_research/profiles/Iran/1825_1875.html

----------

Given all these and probably a lot more documented reports out there, not to mention unknown amounts of classified reports, there can be little doubt that Iran already has nuclear weapons, and when you consider this in the context of a potential and likely future military attack on Iran by the US or Israel, then the importance of this is clear.

The removal was secondary to the troll being banned - as has happened.

He basically accused me of being an idiot, which is fine, I can take that, but he went on to call Israelis pigs and grazers who would be barbecued by missiles sent into Israel by powerful Iran. That was over the top.

The above is perhaps more politely stated than how he wrote his clearly furious post. Also trying to hide/mis-direct his islamic Mullah ties by using “Persian” instead of “Iranian” to describe the launches.

Amazingly he was refering to my post that was made probably a couple of years ago, not long after August 2005 when Ahmadi-Nejad the Turd became the “selected” president of islamic iran and started his grab for power.

If it came from a Democrat, and it may well have, it was an Iranian one based on language and use of wording. There are a ton of pro-Mullah Iranians, both resident and sent here exactly for the purpose of launching such attacks on anyone who is either anti-Obama or anti-Mullah.

Worse still, which has given us pause to attacking Iran, is the estimated over 40,000 (probably more now) suiciders who have been infiltrated into our population.

Mostly by our own stupidity of allowing almost unlimited student visas (via Mullah operated schools) or mullah sympathetic universities and as religious leaders for the mushrooming mosques.

Reports reaching AntiMullah indicate that more than a dozen major Universities and an equal number of secondary ones have been infiltrated by over a hundred (each) of highly trained, active AGENTS (including some more senior ones who arrive as a plush retirement type of position here) of the islamic Ministry of Information and Security (MOIS) - or VEVAK in Farsi as permanent students who never graduate but are there, as Sleepers, to influence their student bodies and control the suiciders if ever the need arises.

IMO, some of this provides the reason why we haven’t taken Iran to task before now. They may have workable warheads in upwards of 20 locations. Thus a strike might put Israel in danger of having to survive at least one warhead dropped on it’s soil

Of course that would put Iran at risk of having Israel only knows how many dropped on it’s soil.

That’s one risk by Iran, I wouldn’t want to take if I were them. Israel would punish any nation that attacked it with nukes. And I mean kick their ass all the way back to the stone age.

Iran is playing a losing game here. The other Arab states don’t want it to have nukes. israel would be doing them all a favor, to eliminate a real threat from Iran.

Ouch. No animosity there...

Unfortunately, too often that mindset is what Israel is dealing with.

Much too often, conservatives like us try to deal with common sense, which is the sane approach. That post is what we are really dealing with. It is frightening.

In guess we need to relize that these people are not dealing in the same realm of reality that we are.

I admit. That post was an eye opener. I guess we need to think outside the box.

Rafsanjani's son was arrested in a show of power (later released when Rafsanjani backed down) and Khamenei believes his liver cancer comes from being poisoned.

Interesting - the way I read it - some Iranian has figured out a way to give enemies cancer - and Khamenei knows about it. It's why he thinks someone did it to him. I mention this because there have been times I've been concerned about the high number of freepers who die of highly aggressive cancers...

You Idiot, then just wait till our fast, strong bombs and mesiles get the cursed nation of barbarians grazing in israel burnt like pigs and then you`ll feel the power of the land of great Persians. So long till then.

Hey you Persian prick, you've already been nuked here on FR, but just wanted to let you know that your beloved Assahollah Khomeini is performing fellatio on Mohammed while slowly turning over Lucifer's 24/7 BBQ Pit & Spit, along with all the other deluded Islamofascist fools who thought they were headed for paradise when they climbed aboard that Muslim Martyr Train, now get back underneath Adhmadinejad's burqa and if you can find his puny little 'mesile', just keep him grinning ya dumb azz.

I share your concern about what foreign powers think of Obama.  The terrorists have got to love the idea that he is going to grant them full recognition, by opening direct talks.  They've won that prize without so much as the mention of a concession on our part.  All in a day's work?  No!  They didn't have to do anything for this gift.  They just kill innocents, and our fearless leader grants them a seat at the table with the premier anti-terrorist nation on the planet.  Imagine what they will get from lesser nations after this.  I shudder to think.

The promise of Obama to those who have half a clue, is Jimmy Carter to the X.  Carter screwed up Iran so badly, that we are dealing with the aftermath some 30 years later.  This Iranian aspect of Carter's foreign policy destabalized the entire region.  Iran subsequent to Carter's briliance, makes Pakistan, Afghanistan, (formerly more so, but still) Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Palestine, and Israel less stable.  And that's just the Middle-East.  Players associated with and influenced by Iran, destablize all of Europe and even the United States to a certain degree.  Southern Asia, and even China are affected negatively.  So is Russia, whether it wants to admit it or not.  The followers of Islam know no personal limits.  They carry out terrorism on a scale that knows no bounds.  Russia could see more school takeovers, acts of terrorism in it's souther region.  It's playing a death match with Iran, and it hasn't a clue.  We lived in a much less complex world in the mid to late 1970s.  Obama could screw up regions on a scale never seen before.  He could accidently mastermind five or more new Irans.

Carter thought he was a great Christian.  And so he thought it would be well to rule as one.  That premise isn't so bad.  In fact it's a good premise.  Unfortunately, Carter's good motives turned into incredibly misguided practice.  Obama, comes from the same mold.  His followers think of him as the One.  It's scarey how nieve this guy is, and yet his followers and the media are convinced a new day has dawned, a better day by far.  In fact, the new day has dawned, and it's the dawn of a more dangerous planet by a factor of five.  And it's that dangerous, because Obama plans to learn on the run.  He has no experience.  He has no solid leadership around him.  His advisors are loons.  His appointees are loons.  His international views examplify what a loon he is.  Good luck doesn't begin to cover it.  We're in a world of hurt as a nation with him at the helm, and the planet is going to suffer because of it.

I shudder to think what this next four years could turn into.  One thing is for certain.  As bad as Obama is, and will be, the media will cover for him 24/7/365x4.  He could screw us fatally, and the current MSM would give this guy continuous accolades until election day 2012.

Good luck Uncle Sam.  You're going to need it.

I don't believe Iran hasNukes as the Pakis wouldn't want a Shia state next to them to be packing. There will be a showdown between Iran and Pakistan-Afghanistan soon as Shi'ism is now resurgent.

Attacking Iran is not a good option, I'd rather see more efforts spent in bringing up Persian pride in areas we can control -- namely Tajik and Uzbek parts of Central Asia (Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan) and if possible into Turkmenistan.

These people should be taught that they have a glorious history prior toIslazm and Arabnationalism and learn that they have, since then, just deteriorated. Once they start asking themselves more questions like that, it is time to remind them that they were Buddhist, Zoroastrian, Chaldean-Christian before this and that by rejecting the imposed foreign religion they can return to days as the center of civilisation.

Spread this and spread propaganda INTO Iran. Iranis are a proud people, we should use that to make them rise up against the yoke of theAyatollahs AndIslam

The land of the great Persians, of Cyrus the Great, of Darius, of the Elamites and the Medes and the Parthians. These great people now turn their heads in shame to see their lands under the yoke of a moon-worshipping cult that keeps the Persian people depressed and decayed, at the bottom of the civilised world instead of at the top.

These great ones would sneer that madmen like Ahmedinejad and Khamenei now "lead" their people.
