Astrology is not a science

I know-my psychic told me so.

""while 14 per cent regard intelligent design as a scientific theory"

Surprised no one leaped on that. Without discussing merit, I think it might be considered a theory...."

It IS widely acknowledged as a theory, although a lot of scientists do not consider it a SCIENTIFIC theory.

Reminds us of that place where all the children are above average.

I have three nieces, all quite lovely. When I see them together I say, "My lovely nieces, each one more beautiful than the other".

Sure, but how many have "collars that match their cuffs" in the immortal words of James Bond (Thunderball)

Check the eyebrows. Works like a charm.

I wonder why it doesn't seem to work in reverse.

Any thoughts?

None at all.

Do you have some sort of theory?

"Reminds us of that place where all the children are above average."

That would be Garrison Keillor's (SP?) Minnesota. Where they just elected the first Muslim to Congress.

So much for that theory....

Given the current state of our publik scrools I don't think we should be tempted to look down on Swedes.

The Skeptical Inquirer ran a survey a few years ago measuring beliefs in junk science and the paranormal among various occupational groups. Guess which group scored the highest. I don't even need to tell you do I.

Honestly, not really. Our cultures are largely compatible.

Just guessing, do you suppose it might have something to do with our history of immigration from Europe, and the assimilation of such.

As opposed to the insular kind of culture inspired by being monocultural for thousands of years in the home countries?

Just a thought. After all, just like most of Europe, Sweden is accepting large numbers of immigrants recently, though obviously not from the USA.

Are people there as accepting in business and socially to immigrants as the USA is to Swedes?

Newfoundland isn't overrun by Muslims.

Fortified by screech, Newfoundland will be the last holdout of WesternCiv.

Michael Behe, the Discovery Institute and a lot of the Intelligent Design crowd would seem to agree that astrology is a science.

Muise-But you are clear, under your definition, the definition that sweeps in intelligent design, astrology is also a scientific theory, correct?

Behe-Yes, that's correct. And let me explain under my definition of the word "theory," it is -- a sense of the word "theory" does not include the theory being true, it means a proposition based on physical evidence to explain some facts by logical inferences. There have been many theories throughout the history of science which looked good at the time which further progress has shown to be incorrect. Nonetheless, we can't go back and say that because they were incorrect they were not theories. So many many things that we now realized to be incorrect, incorrect theories, are nonetheless theories.

Muise-Has there ever been a time when astrology has been accepted as a correct or valid scientific theory, Professor Behe?

Behe-Well, I am not a historian of science. And certainly nobody -- well, not nobody, but certainly the educated community has not accepted astrology as a science for a long long time.

Behe's entire testimoney here

How many times have creationists and the ID crowd been warned that when they get what they want, they would be sorry and wish they hadn't.

Just a thought. After all, just like most of Europe, Sweden is accepting large numbers of immigrants recently, though obviously not from the USA.

The former Social Democratic Government recently offered a large number of formerly illegal immigrants to Sweden Swedish citizenship. It resulted, among other things, in our population growing from 9.0 million to 9.1 million more or less overnight.

This action of our former government was more or less the same kind of move a lot of people will remember ex-president Ronald Reagan by, because of his generous offer to a bunch of illegal Hispanic immigrants to the US.

Personally, I don't mind muslims coming to Sweden as long as they come here to work and they come in numbers we can handle.

During the last 10-15 years, Sweden has accepted too many immigrants from out of Europe and that even the Social Democratic Party did admit this being a fact in its time.

A sensible exchange between cultures in terms of labor crossing borders, is, for instance, that which is taking place today between the EU and the US. Americans come here to further their career and europeans do the same things on American soil.

Recently America has enjoyed a better economical development than big European nations like Germany, Italy and France. Presently, these economies have been reformed and are now growing two, three times as fast as the US economy.

Perhaps these circumstances will motivate several europeans working in the US to return and even more US citizens seeking employment in the EU.
