This will end in tears. The Obama hysteria is not merely embarrassing to witness, it is itself contributory to the scale of the disaster that is coming. What we are experiencing, in the deepening days of a global depression, is the desperate suspension of disbelief by people of intelligence - la trahison des clercs - in a pathetic effort to hypnotise themselves into the delusion that it will be all right on the night. It will not be all right.
We have been here before. In the spring of 1997, to be precise, when a charismatic, young prime minister entered Downing Street, cheered by children bussed in for the occasion waving plastic Union Jacks. A very few of us at that time incurred searing reproaches for denouncing the Great Charlatan (as I have always denominated Tony Blair) and dissenting from the public hysteria. Three times a deluded Britain elected that transparent fraud. Yesterday, when national bankruptcy became a formal reality, we reaped the bitter harvest of the Blair/Brown imposture.
The burnt child, contrary to conventional wisdom, does not fear the fire. After the Blair experience there is no excuse for anybody in Britain falling for Obama. Yet today, in this country, even some of those who remained sane during the emotional spasm of the Diana aberration are pumping the air for Princess Barack. At a time of gross economic and geopolitical instability throughout the Western world, this is beyond irresponsibility.

finally, a non “gushing” British view that doesn’t insult our intelligence.
Thisis one of the best things I have seen written in the press. The Uk Telegraph still has “it.” It is owned by the billionaire Barclay brothers and they are free marketers.
Most of the British press is garbage but I have yet to see any U.S. paper or editorial tell it like it is. IBD maybe. The UK Telegraph has some outstanding writers.
Melanie Phillips with writes for the UK Daily Mail is also outstanding.
“Princess Barack” LOL. In some ways I feel as sorry for Michelle as I did for Charles when Diana was prancing for the press.
It defies the imagination, that there are people who believe this.
PLEASE, don’t feel sorry for that, opps I mean her
Well we are on the verge of bankruptcy and the political class keeps spending. It really is insanity.
Hubris and denial do. They are the stuff of tragedy.
"The Obama hysteria is not merely embarrassing to witness..."
It's reassuring to know that there are still people out there who are capable of embarrassment.
"...it is itself contributory to the scale of the disaster that is coming."
The fall that follows hubris and denial is proportional to the magnitude of the hubris and denial.
"What we are experiencing...is the desperate suspension of disbelief by people of intelligence - la trahison des clercs - in a pathetic effort to hypnotise themselves into the delusion that it will be all right on the night."
On a global scale!
"It will not be all right."
It never is when reality comes crashing down on the delusional--and the delusional are in the millions!
"We have been here before."
Many, many times! It's what Greek tragedy is all about. History is full of examples. Hubris and denial lead to tragedy.
The people of the world will not even ask questions about Obama.
The U.S. Supreme Court would not even look at his birth certificate. The Justices were afraid of the truth. Even they were in denial.
The U.S. press refused to look.
The foreign press refused to publish anything contrary to the illusion--even refused to publish questions, some of them quite pertinent.
Millions of Americans refused to face reality. They voted in a President about whom they know practically nothing.
The situation is very dangerous.
Those who indulge in hubris and denial always reap a bitter harvest.

You’d think.
‘Round these parts, the Church of Christ is big and I’m amazed at the number of deluded souls who will argue with you ‘til their blue that That One is a member of the ‘Church of Christ’ and that was good enough for them to vote for him.
They can’t offer any proof, mind you, but that doesn’t seem to bother them a whit.
Oy.
I do, in some ways. It’s difficult being the awkward one of a pair in the public eye. It will be difficult for her to visit Europe with its catty press and elite. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t see Michelle as being so ambitious as was Hillary. Hillary was fully on board Bill’s candidacy and presidency. I think to some extent Michelle has just been dragged along and now she is about to face at least four years of scrutiny of her every outfit, every word, every photograph. That’s tremendous pressure. I suspect Michelle would have preferred to remain a big fish in the Chicago area rather than Washington DC.
Now that said, of course she must accept the burdens of her husband’s office, for which she campaigned (until muzzled). She has to play her part, watch her husband flail at doing the first job he has ever really held, and pretend to like white people. I don’t discount her own culpability in foisting this administration on the nation, I just would not want to walk in her shoes (not that they would fit my tiny feet) for anything in the world. Sometimes they say that hell is getting everything you wanted. She is about to discover hell like never before. I hope they have a good marital counselor on the staff.
That has been my husband’s most used line this past few months.
The Emperor Has No Clothes.
This will end in tears. The Obama hysteria is not merely embarrassing to witness, it is itself contributory to the scale of the disaster that is coming.
Well, at least a few Brits still have command of the English language. We’ve surrendered ours to valley-girlisms, and inane sound bites.
Good show, Gerald, old boy.......jolly good !
Great article, tells it like it is. Thanks for posting.
