The latest pro-Obama propaganda from the NY Times is almost too ridiculous to be believed. Referring to the AIG bonus scandal, the Times asserts:

Mr. Obama is hardly the first American president to grapple with a distraction, a diversion — an outright red herring, some might call it — that grew bigger than itself. Ronald Reagan had the Air Force’s $7,622 coffeepot and the Navy’s $435 claw hammer, as well as an ill-fated effort to save money by classifying ketchup as a school lunch vegetable. Bill Clinton had midnight basketball and a high-priced haircut from a Beverly Hills stylist aboard Air Force One.

Crystallize the issue:

The mind can not really grasp the big picture, without context and examples, which are smaller issues, we MUST use examples if we want to make a point.

Also, I do not recall the NYT saying that the toilet seat or the claw hammer were “minor distractions” when Reagan was in office, do you?

Response: I agree with this conclusion. However, it is a diversion from the fact that it was government policy to force banks to grant mortgages to societies incompetents that precipitated this entire mess.

I think it is a diversion from the trillion dollars that Obama is wasting, falsely labeled as “stimulus.” But that is not what the Times meant.

I know the Times meant something else. Their conclusion was correct but their reasons for it were wrong.

Oh yes now I remember the Reagan “distraction” and I remember how the NYT pointed out that it was just a red herring -— NOT!
