The crowd was estimated at 7,000 I understand. A co-worker of mine ten floors up could hear the speakers better than I could. The crowd was not at full-size when this picture was snapped. I was stunned by the turnout, considering the weather.
Much larger crowd in Oklahoma City!

Yeah, I was frustrated with the pictures I was taking with my phone, it’s such a wide angle and the resolution is so low that even when I cropped it it looks smaller than the crowd actually was. I took three pictures trying to get a shot that was detailed and showed the whole crowd, but I couldn’t. Didn’t have my real camera with me.
Trust me, it’s a bigger crowd than it looks.

That’s a very interesting comparison. The video was evidently taken from the street across the grassy area and looking towards the POV of the still. Note the statue IN THE BACKGROUND in the opening frame of the video is the same as the statue in the foreground of the still. I can’t discern the video foreground statue in the still. The end of the pan in the video is the front of the building to the left in the still.
I can’t agree that the video gives a better estimate of the crowd size. In fact, by panning across the top like that, it can give the impression that the crowd extends further into the distance than it does. Maybe it was taken at a different time, and there actually were more people there than at the time the still was taken, but I wouldn’t assume it.
Whatever the numbers, I’m quite impressed by the respectable ( at least ) turnout at so many locations. I think the point was made, even if imminent insurrection is not a threat.
Well, I thought I mentioned that the still was taken *before* the crowd had reached its largest point, but that statue in the beginning of the video is not the statue in the still. There are statues all over the Ohio statehouse lawn. The one in the video is too close and too far to the left (from the camera POV) to be that statue in the still.
The statue in the foreground at 0:00 of the video is McKinley
Had the camera kept panning you would have seen the statue of Carrot Top. That was a pretty controversial day....
