Drill, baby, drill? Shame, shame

Three to 10 miles offshore exploration and drilling — the first oil spill from the Gulf onto our beautiful beaches will happen. All who voted for this should have to stand barefoot in oil and explain why they voted for this. It would make a wasteland on the Florida West Coast, for supposed profits in the distant future.

Safe drilling OK

I want to keep Florida’s beaches pristine, too. They are why I moved here! I also support offshore oil and gas exploration and recovery in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. The energy and revenues from responsible drilling would be of enormous benefit to all of the United States.

It is incomprehensible to me that otherwise logical people can become so totally illogical when it comes to offshore drilling. There has not been a significant oil spill from U.S. offshore drilling since the blowout off the California coast in 1969. In this case, the wells did not meet drilling codes of the time. Present drilling requirements are much more stringent. I certainly would not want to see an array of oil rigs just off our beaches and, with today’s technology, we would not. One platform can serve many wells and it is possible that there would be no visible rigs after the drilling was completed. Given the shallow water and proximity to shore, the oil and gas would likely come ashore via buried pipelines without oil tankers. Yes, there could be a new refinery somewhere on the Florida Gulf Coast — lots of high-paying jobs for Florida. This is bad?

Then there are the proponents of offshore windmills. Talk about visual pollution! These windmills typically stand over 200 feet high with 150 foot blades spinning whenever there is enough wind. And it appears that offshore rigs provide a much-enhanced habit for fish and other ocean life as artificial reefs. Why are fishermen opposed?

Cut him some slack

What is really frightening is that someone would criticize President Obama’s manners after eight years of George Bush. I will never forget Bush slouching in his chair chewing away with his mouth wide open while speaking with Tony Blair. Blair was standing slightly behind Bush’s shoulder — out of line of being blitzed by food particles. Bush was fodder for all comedians, especially when he made a speech. Bush also became a target because he would never admit to any mistake. Some political observers are saying that Obama is trying to rectify that. So far as speaking badly, there are analysts who believe being honest will restore trust. I don’t know, diplomacy from a politician is elusive in its intent and the analysts are saying that the Queen finally has a gift that she can use. According to them, she has some rooms full of useless gifts. I understand this to be loaded with her favorite music.

Has any president inherited such a multitude or diversity of crises simultaneously? Can’t we cut him a little slack? After all, he is the guy we have to count on. Not the Rush Limbaughs who have their multimillion-dollar estates and only give rabid lip service to the unemployed and homeless to further their grab at the White House.

Salary out of whack

It is appalling that we have to let teachers go for lack of funds when we can hire a superintendent at the salary we pay him and the expense account he has. Will he fill in for these teachers? Can he do student nursing? Can he or will he be a teacher’s aide? I think not.

I am not a socialist, but I do think our values have really gone to pot. Pay that man less and keep our teachers. Please tell us what he does that is over and above the teachers? Does he have that much more education? Is the cost of living more for him than others? It won’t be long before we will be a country of the rich and the poor, there will be no middle class. Come on, silent majority, let’s get some brains and act on our beliefs.

Maybe we are a bunch of cowards.

Spending must stop

President Obama had a meeting with his cabinet and told them to cut $100 million from the budget because the people of this country are having to cut their budgets, so the government must do the same. My response: Big Whoop! That amount won’t even began to help. Please spare me the rhetoric. It’s like me cutting $100 from my budget. If he would have said $100 billion, maybe my pulse would have started to beat faster. The last administration spent and spent and I thought we were supposed to have a change. He is no different than George Bush when it comes to spending. It took Bush eight years to do it; Obama doubled it in less than 100 days. We are mortgaging our children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s future. We need term limits so the “lifers” up there can go get a real look at what the average person goes through. We need to stop congressional perks: free health care, not paying into Social Security and a pension after only one term in office, to mention a few. The tea parties weren’t only about Democrats and President Obama, they were also about Republicans and Bush spending, taxing, and not listening and doing what’s best for Americans.

Gee, I hate to tell this idiot author; but more oil spills occur in Florida where there is no offshore drilling than in Louisana where there is. Florida coastline is dying because of the restrictions whereas Louisana is teaming with marine life and is pristine especially where the old oil platforms still remain at the request of the locals.

10 miles is within the line of sight. No one, especially those who have 1M+ homes over looking the Gulf, like to look at a sunset and watch the gas fires at night. Drill all you want but put the rigs over 18 miles off the coast. There is no question that the Gulf could use some structure for fish havens.

and the idiots who vote AGAINST offshore drilling should have to pay three times as much for unleaded to subsidize the rest of us.

Has any president inherited such a multitude or diversity of crises simultaneously? Can’t we cut him a little slack?

How about Truman? He 'only' inherited WWII with Hitler, Mussolini and Tojo still alive and had been kept completely out of the loop by FDR; whereas Ø, not only claimed to know the problems, he had been the driving force of US policy (e.g. TARP) even before his election. He had to mop up the half of the war FDR left him against the guys who hadn't attacked us (as W left Ø Iraq) and faced 100,000s of expected casualties to end the front against the guys who actually attacked us. Truman ended that half, the war in Europe, within his first month. As for the half a World War against the guys that actually had attacked us, the Japs, comparing by Ø's days in office Truman A-bombed Hiroshima... yesterday. Truman will do Nagasaki Tuesday and see Japan surrender a week from tomorrow. Meanwhile Ø is doing ok in Iraq... Bush, unlike FDR with Europe, had already seen the chief bad guys die there. But as for Ø's attacking enemies, Osama and the Taliban, they not only are still at large, but are extending their reach. Both they and their ideological ally, Iran, are threatening to obtain A-bombs to use against us! Their surrender isn't expected within the week. Meanwhile on the homefront Ø's biggest effort, the Porkulus Bill, has been proven to be an abject failure at its most touted goal, holding down the unemployment spike from the recession. Unemployment now with the Porkulus, is higher than Ø had warned, during the Porkulus debate, that unemployment would reach at this time without the Porkulus.

LOL! I love reading LibTard whines. Especially the ones that say, "Now, I'm no Socialist but ..." and then go on to explain why they're flipping Socialists.

Here is a great article from today on a 30-story natural gas platform in the Gulf. Survived hurricanes and pumps its heart out. Cleanly. Offshore gas rig in Gulf: Will it silence skeptics of drilling?

The LibTards just can't accept petroleum in any form. They really could give a rat's ass about how far away from shore, how clean, how much, blah, blah
