RNC pissing contest misses true change
The K. Ryan James Blog ^ | 19 May 2009 | K. Ryan James

Instead of actually coming up with policies that will encourage, engage and empower conservative activists, these members of the RNC are instead focusing on ridiculous motions akin to calling liberals "icky poopie heads" and stripping a newly elected chairman of power.

While I have no real beef with Chairman Steele other than, admittedly, cringing during some of his communications gaffes and wondering when an office staff will be fully hired, I do not think that it is in the interest of the party for voting members of the RNC to strip the elected chairman of the power enjoyed by his predecessors.

(snip)

If the voting members of the Republican National Committee really want to change the nature of the party, I would submit that they would do better than change the rules of the game because some members didn't like how the chairman's election went or resort to third-grade name calling. Instead, I urge them to adopt new rules to add two new under-40 national committeemembers per delegation.

Your intro doesn’t give me any reason to click on your blog and give it traffic.
If I wanted a pseudo Democrat in any office, I’d ask for a Dem.

The need for new blood is apparent, but if this new blood is not “principled” new blood, then you will see this party continue to self-destruct.

We need people who understand our first principles, and can articulate them, and are prepared to defend and advance them. Anyone other than that will simply preside over the marginalization of the party. If you don’t know what you stand for, then getting you elected doesn’t really make a hill of beans worth of difference.

I have a better idea for reform - change the primary rules so that nobody but Republicans can vote in GOP primaries.

You and me, marron, we're the new blood the GOP needs in leadership. ;)

Seriously, give me a year of absolute dictatorial power over the GOP's decision making processes, and I'd have us winning in 2010, guaranteed.

And then I'd resign and go back to the farm.

That should have been Job One for Michael Steele.

They want to call the Democrats the Democrat Socialist Party. I don’t see why not. It’s not name calling, it’s simply an accurate description.

It may be true, but it's still juvenile, and it shouldn't be the preoccupation of a national political party.

And don't think such a move can't back-fire.

The most likely result of calling the Democratic Party "Socialist" is to create more socialists.

Young person #1,"Hey! Obama and the Democrats are socialists!" Young person #2,"Really? Sounds Great! Me too, then!"
