Swiss Minaret Ban Anti-Libertarian
Anarchy Deluxe ^ | 11/30/2009 | Michael Nichols

The WSJ calls the Swiss Minaret ban stupid, but, in my opinion, that doesn't go far enough. The ban is not only stupid; it is anti-libertarian.

It is a commonly known fact that Europe is struggling with its Muslim immigrants, many of whom come from Muslim countries. These Muslim immigrants have incredible difficulties integrating into society. In Germany, Turkish immigrants still don't speak German by the third generation. Many Germans will tell you in private conversations that foreigners refuse to adapt to the European way of life and many Germans associate this refusal with Islam itself. Such expressions of opinion are normally private, because politicians would be crucified by the gods of political correctness in the media. A couple of extreme examples: Britain banned Geerd Wilders, the Dutch politician who has anti-Islamic stances and who is famous for his video against radical Islam "Fitna", from entering the country. Britain also tried to bar Michael Savage, the conservative talk-radio host, from entering the country for supposedly making "promoting hate", though the government could not cite specific examples.

Of course, one cannot look at the issue squarely without taking the extreme intolerance of radical Islam into account, either. As mentioned above, many Muslim immigrants simply do not integrate. They often turn to radical ideologies inside their communities. Europe has seen their intolerance on many occasions: the murder of Theo Van Gogh, the fatwah on Salman Rushdie, the outrage at the Muhammad cartoon. As Foreign Affairs points out, jihadist networks are spreading all across Europe among the immigrant populations. So, when Swiss voters voted to approve the ban, it is certain that they had the same fears as many across Europe; that the spread of radical Islam must be curtailed.

However, this is a catch 22 for Europe and the world.

Sounds like a pretty good reason not to be a libertarian...

However, this is a catch 22 for Europe and the world. If the government allows the spread of radical Islam, it risks more terrorist attacks and more problems with integration.

All we have to do is declare that Islam is not a religion. Instead declare it a treasonous movement because one of its primary objectives is the overthrow our government and the subjugation our citizens. This would overcome any protections the Muslims had under the First Amendment, and it would neither be illegal nor politically incorrect to discriminate against them.

To my libertarian friends.

Please pay close attention.

Mohammedanism is anti-libertarian!!!

You will be given three options by your new Mohammedan masters.
1. Convert to Mohammedanism and be a good little Mohammedan
2. Become a slave and pay the 110% jizya tax.
3. Die a slow, painful, bloody death.

They will saw your heads off at the very first opportunity if you do not toe the Mohammedan line in whatever way the Ayatoilet of the day commands, until somebody saws his head off and replaces him with another Ayatoilet.

If you want to keep your freedoms, including the freedom to be a licentious libertarian, Mohammedanism must be eliminated, eradicated, and thoroughly purged from the face of the earth!

That is all.

Don’t think you would get any arguments against that from any libertarian. The debate is over how to do it properly, but it’s a debate worth having.

Frankly, the ban isn’t as stupid as the premise of the article.

Nothing wrong with being a mindful libertarian. There's everything wrong with being a breathtakingly stupid libertarian.

Example: "These Muslim immigrants have incredible difficulties integrating into society."

BZZZZZZZT! Wrong-o!. "These Muslim immigrants have no intention of integrating into society," is the correct answer. But thanks for playing our game, Civilization and Its Enemies.

Actually, I sent mine to Jeff Head a while back. It’s a real eye-opener. History that has been forgotten or deliberatly buried concering the murderous, civilization-killing cult that is Islam. But, hey - it’s out in paperback now.

What we’re really in need of is a good ole’ fashion LARGE plague or a REALLY large world war. The smaller the tribes, the more room to roam, the less conflict there.

MAN life is simple according to CSA Rebel.

Maybe because they don't want to integrate into society, but to subdue it.

AS typical Anarchy-Libertarian types, you want no rules, no regs, just let it all hang out.
Your arguments are no different than the far left.

When was the last time you were in Western Europe with cities taken over by Muslims.
In England, the English language is a second language in the classrooms in some cities.

Islam isn’t just another religion, but an anti Jewish - Christian religion, anti democracy, anti anyone who isn’t Muslim. They call is to take out anyone who isn’t Muslim.

Having been in Switzerland, they did well in banning
the minarets.

Banning the damn things is a good start. Next - deport the people who build the damn things.

You have to read the whole article before criticizing the guy for being stupid. The very next sentence mentions this:

“Many Germans will tell you in private conversations that foreigners refuse to adapt to the European way of life and many Germans associate this refusal with Islam itself. Such expressions of opinion are normally private, because politicians would be crucified by the gods of political correctness in the media.”

The dude seems to get it that radical Islam is a massive threat to liberty.

Besides, imho, he brings up some legitimate issues. Banning religious thought is a bad precedent. Seems in line with the founding fathers to me, or was the revolution about something else?

Saying libertarians reject all rules and laws is a complete misunderstanding of libertarianism or classical liberalism. It accepts the rules of culture, the free market, conscience, religion if private, etc., which is how US common law came to be in the first place. It simply rejects top-down government-made law as an inefficient and unjust system of exploitation used to plunder the masses. Saying that libertarians support chaos is a myth propagated by the far left and statists to spread fear and doubt and to destroy the free market, calling it laissez-faire capitalism. It is agreement with their principles that leads and has lead to tyranny and the worst forms of socialism/statism. But feel free to disagree. That’s what this is all about.

Not that it matters, but I do live in Europe, and I speak both German and Russian, having lived multiple years in both countries. I see the damage religious fanaticism is causing here and the real problems foreigners face as immigrants. I used to be a hard-core conservative, but have found libertarianism to be more in line with true liberty, because the free market is the only thing keeping us somewhat free. Republicans betrayed those principles under Bush and drove many of us away from them. I am still a bit socially conservative, though I think that is a private matter not to be enforced by government.

I spent time in East Germany in several cities and towns
in 1983, not an easy task. Saw first hand the mind set
that keeps up the anti war mantra here in America.
I also have many relatives fighting in this current war.

The anti war people can sit back like leaches while the adults fight to make sure another 3,000 Americans and others won’t be killed in another 9/11

Banning religious thought is a bad precedent.

That's right.

But thought that says "Saw off the heads of all who disagree with you" is not religious thought.
