Obama Finally Pushes Back on China
The Voice of Reason ^ | February 10, 2010 | Texas Peartree

As a fair-minded person, I need to give credit where credit is due. I praise President Obama for agreeing to sell Taiwan $6 billion in weaponry. Of course, under the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act we are duty-bound to supply Taiwan, but President Obama has rarely made moves designed to push back against pipsqueaks such as China.

Pipsqueak? Isn't China a potential peer or adversary? Maybe, maybe not. There are reasons to believe that China will never truly push us. These include;

1) Their plummeting working-age population and increasing aged cohort will shift expenditures from military spending to social programs and deplete household savings. China's one-child policy will make them the first peacetime country on earth to grow old before they can get rich.

2) Their crony capitalism distorts lending and leads to politically-connected asset holders who will never pay.

3) While it has a Pacific Coast, much of China is geographically distant from markets. To the north: deserts. To the south: jungle. To the west: mountains.

4) An army marches on its stomach, right? How can army march knowing that it will be hungry again in an hour?

China owns US dept. If they dump it, we get smashed. They just grow more rice. I wouldn’t want to f with them. Plus, they have allies. Ours are either going bankrupt or been read out by the headmasterobama and crying in the corner. America will never be able to deal with an advancing China. Our coasts, east and west would invite then in for a Latte.

Right on. And they are survivors. This is important to remember if we are to understand why they might be self-servingly helping us to overcome zer0's destruction of our economy.

IMO They have rejected the marxian economic self-destruct mode our current administration favors after their own long, hard, fatal and failed experience. The Chinese want us to survive more than our own POTUS does.

The enemy of our enemy...

Who owns who? The huge debtor or the bank? We own them too. Who do they sell to if not us? It’s incestuous, but they have to prop us up or their economy tanks right along with us.

My dad was an old China hand, a pilot for CNAC and later a Hump pilot in the CBI.
Although he passed in 1966, he always said the Chinese would not remain Communist for more than one generation.

I agree it would be a mess. But in the future, we will be making Tinker Toys soon enough. My point is who would survive. Our 200+ years or their 5000+ years. Inherently they don't need the starched suit, fancy haircut, xboxes, mtv and on and on. Their military has a 1,000,000 standing army and nukes coming out the wazooooo. They are survivors, and not the tv kind.

True, but they are racing toward the fascist economic system, which is equally destructive of economic freedom. One of the largest industrial conglomerate entities in China is the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Well, you're right of course. I was just viewing their current actions in the context of our own Dear Leader.

China really likes their central authoritarian governments. And individual freedom isn't very high on their priority list, that's for sure. I'm glad we're not them.

In fairness, if China dumps US Treasury bonds, they too will be broke. It will de-value their largest asset, (our bonds) and all assets denominated in US dollars, including investments here. The fact is that we are in a symbiotic relationship with these Communists. Does this sounds like a good idea to anyone?

I think the parallel is closer than it might seem. Obama’s “Czar Corps”, which has their stranglehold on mortgages, banking, brokerages, GM, Chrysler, and dozens of other enterprises - and is STILL attempting to steal the entire health care industry from its current owners - comes pretty close to the PLA economic model....
