Where Were You When the Republic Died?
American Thinker ^ | 03/22/10 | Matt Patterson

Posted on 03/21/2010 10:48:23 PM PDT by American Dream 246

In November 2008, Americans elected a socialist as their president. In March 2010, they woke up stunned to find themselves living in a socialist country.

Health insurers - once private companies - are now organs of the federal government. Every citizen is a ward of the state, which can now compel you to have insurance; punish you if you don't; determine if your insurance is acceptable; punish you if it isn't. Thousands of new federal bureaucrats will soon spill from the D.C. Beltway and flood the country, scrutinizing our finances to verify compliance with this new law.

A government that grants itself this kind of power over us can conceivably do anything to us. For our own good, of course. Such a country is in no meaningful sense "free."

And this is only the beginning. Liberals are salivating in contemplation of all the fanciful window trimmings that can in the future be hung from this legislative framework. Public option will soon appear as prelude to single payer, as was the intent all along. Soon, Americans won't even have the illusion of a choice - the government will move from subsidizer to provider, and it will be the only game in town.

So what's next? Some look to the states as possible saviors. Please. The states long ago surrendered their sovereignty, and are now junkies on federal monies, which they need for schools, roads, Medicaid, and much else. If the citizens are now wards of the federal government, the states long since preceded them in that sorry servitude.

The individual? What are we going to do, not pay the taxes to support this beast? Oh, they'll take that from you before you ever get your check; we gave them that power to them long ago, remember. March on Washington, en masse? Lot of good that's done thus far.

The Republicans? Assuming the GOP can take back both houses of Congress and the White House in the next couple of elections (by no means a sure thing), can you name one gigantic entitlement enacted by liberals that Republicans have successfully repealed? Or even made serious effort to repeal? Ever? Anyone?

The Courts? Sure, maybe Obamacare will work its way through the courts, and maybe the Supreme Court will finally take up the case (there is no guarantee of that, remember), and maybe the Court will not have tilted left by then, and maybe the Justices will declare it unconstitutional. Then what? Who will enforce this decision? Obamacare is already unconstitutional on its face, and yet is the law of the land. Do you think the Democrats will say, "Oh, all-right, never-mind," and cheerfully strike it from the books after their successful five-decade long crusade?

And even if a court challenge is eventually successful, how much of the bureaucracy will by then already be in place, how many of the thousands of new regulations already in effect, how much of the billions in new taxes and fines collected, how many jobs killed, how many middle class families addicted to the entitlement?

There's a reason Democrats were desperate to ram this through at all cost - once enacted, such things are all but perpetual. Former freedom-loving peoples begin to tell themselves it's really not so bad. Sure, government is forcing you to eat state-approved gruel, but hey, at least they hold the spoon, and they even pour a little sugar on top when you're good.

The worst part of watching the proceedings unfold on Sunday was the endless stream of commentators and pundits calmly discussing this bill as if it were just one more piece of bad legislation we will have to live under. In fact, what has transpired is nothing less than an overthrow of the old Constitutional order.

In 1776, the American Republic boldly announced its birth with the Declaration of Independence. In 2010, it quietly expired with a declaration of dependence - on government, on entitlement, and on the Democratic party.

Our healthcare system is going to start collapsing in a matter of weeks

Not weeks, but it will start with chaos in the Medicare/Medicaid systems. Insurance company's are going to merge for financial strength, and when the benefits start kicking in, this Congress will have spent all the tax money they collected for it and then some. The investment banks will not be able to sell our securities because our credit ratings will have tanked so they can't borrow any more. They will be forced to print it.

This will cause total economic collapse and that's the roadmap.

removed our children from the public education/indoctrination institutes.

Bravo for that!!! I know it's difficult to be between rage - defaitism and optimism that we can still fight and win. Very often, when sadly I compare what is happening with what happened in Europe - germany in 1938 - well...it's exactly the same - EXACTLY! Nobody there realized before iot was too late. And he started with healthcare also - So I am very discouraged right now when I see that one year and a half has passed and people have a real hard time to wake up and understand where we are heading and the destruction of the Constitution and our beloved country - so yes, I admit - I am very very sad to see the American spirit so far away in history.

Bravo. I really admire you. one of teh good things I see is that more and more parents are ware of the horrors which are going on in the schools so hopefully more and more people will do what you did. That’s one of the major problem of our society right now is that 30 years long of endoctrinment of children that when they come to vote, they are all communists...that’s what is the biggest danger for the future of our country. So really thank you so much for doing that. Like Hannity would say - you are a great AMerican :-)

“Liberals only hate the flag and patriotism when it suits their political purpose.”

I strongly disagree. You do recall the lapel pins, yes? Television reporters would not wear the Stars and Stripes lapel pins. You do recall all those countless occasions when liberals either burned and stomped on our Flag in public protest, or raised the Mexican colors in its place?

Liberals despise our flag because it represents American - liberty, Capitalism, free trade, promise. Don’t forget their ideology.

I recall a couple of years ago when I had visited a state facility. I discovered that the facility manager never flew Old Glory. I also discovered that he was a liberal (I wasn’t surprised). Old Glory and the state flag now flies at that facility. We required it.

Liberals HATE our Stars and Stripes because of what she represents; AMERICA.

Our country started down a dangerous road when Lincoln forced the states to give up their sovereignty. The Roosevelt’s, John Dewey, and those of the same ideology paved the way for what is now unfolding in our history.

We must not give up any more ground.

What history book are you reading? “...small minority...”?

Only about a third of the colonists were in favor of going to war with England for independence. Another third were against and the other third did not have a opinion and would go with the winner.

George Washington started out with many thousands of troops. By the mid winter, half of them had deserted the general. More left before he crossed the Delaware and many were killed as well. By all appearances and any rational opinion, he was beaten. I think he may have thought so himself at times, but he got back up and kept going and seeing this man keep the faith, his remaining troops fell in behind him.

So yes, a very small cadre of patriots created this country and gave us our freedom!

Medicare and Medicaid are definitely going to be first. That’s where it’s going to bite hard and bite quick. Doctors and institutions are going to drop Medicaid and Medicare patients en masse.

The seniors are going to go berserk. Dunno how the welfare gang is going to react.

Do you really want to open up a constitutional convention with type of politicians we have today? A convention would allow the wholesale rewriting of the constitution. There would be no guarantee that it would even resemble the document written by the founders. All sorts of socialist, progressive ideas could be codified. A new bill of rights would likely include the right to housing, healthcare, education, and employment. I am alarmed by the call for a constitutional convention on FR. A convention would not strengthen the constitution, it would destroy the last vestiges of it. WAKE UP! We do not have a Madison, Jefferson, Adams or Washington among our political elite right now. All we have are a bunch of Hamiltons.

Only because they hated the war and Bush.

Have you noticed the change since Obama is now the CINC. The media fawn over every rocket fired, every big bad terrorist killed or captured.

They are like scorpions. They sting anything that gets in their way. But they don't sting each other.

I am old enough to have seen the patriotic flag waving on both ends of the Capitol.

I don’t wish to give any false impressions. It saddens me as well, but not in a defeated way. Ultimately, my hope rests solely in Christ. My life here is temporary, and yet, I am given a responsibility as a Christian American to, among other things, vote and address issues which affect us as citizens and individuals in this country.

It must be disheartening for you; to come from a Socialist/Communist country in order to live in America, and then to witness similar changes politically which seem to point us towards a more Progressive government.

But there is still hope. Never loss sight of it.

That is the age old argument we have used when the liberals attempted, back in the sixties to rewrite the Constitution. They were going to do it while they had control of Congress and the White House.

That is Washington DC. That is the EX-Capitol of the US as soon as the States declare that they have reformed the U.S. government and appointed new delegates to attend Convention at a new Federal capitol.

Washington DC would remain the Capitol of the Old regime.

Two thirds of the States are needed to do this, and I think it's possible. No current government official, elected by the old regime would be a part of the new. Total house clean and new diggs.

Disheartening is a very small word for what I feel. I dreamt about AMerica all my life. I finally managed to settle here. That was such a long dream to realize. I traveled everywhere in the wolrd so between my original country and the world I am able to make a good comparaisson. So when I say that America is unique I mean it. I really do. So yes, it is more disheartening may be for us not born here who love this country much more than a lot of American and who KNOW what America represent of freedom in the wolrd. She is unique. Period. So to see that what happened in Europe and with the consequences and that's happening here is absolutely unbearable, indeed. How is it possible that so many American don't realize the chance they have to be born here...I don't get it. They should all be sent to Siberia for a while. May be that would clean their brain.

I am enjoying your comments.

I am a second generation immigrant from former eastern bloc country of Georgia. My grandfather was Georgian and my Grandmother (I think they met on the boat) was from Yugoslavia.

Yes - right in the heart of it. Hope they told you bed stories about their country so you at least can be proud to be an American, compared to what they endured. :-) I am sure they must have loved America so much, like we not born here do.

I wish they had, but they refused to speak of it. My grandfather went out the back door as the Russians were coming in the front, and my grandmother escaped persecution as she was a Orthodox Christian and the Muslims were killing them and burning their churches.

I know this from research and not from them. They would not talk about it at all.

How sad and oawful is that...you surely understand me now. I am so scared - when you suppress the will of the people, then dictators can do anything. When people suffers too much, they loose their will, and then the dictator wins. Your grandparents were admirable people to ahve the courage to escape. With such a descendance, you must be a great person. Hope we will find a way to fight that awful marxist shadow a way or another. You give me hope. I really have to go to bed now...great talking with you. Please try to pass the word of what it means to live in maxist country. Even if we can convince one person, that will be a good win. Thank you :-)

“How is it possible that so many American don’t realize the chance they have to be born here...I don’t get it.”

Well, in part, it started here:

Communist Goals (1963)
Documention below
________________________________________
Congressional Record—Appendix, pp. A34-A35
January 10, 1963
Current Communist Goals
EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Thursday, January 10, 1963

Mr. HERLONG. Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Fla., is an ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently published the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the public to the dangers of communism in America.
At Mrs. Nordman’s request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous consent, the following “Current Communist Goals,” which she identifies as an excerpt from “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen:
[From “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen]
CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS
1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.
2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.
3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.
4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.
5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.
6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.
7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.
8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev’s promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N.
9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.
10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.
11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)
12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.
13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.
14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.
15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.
16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.
20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.
21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.
22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”
23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”
24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.
25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”
27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”
28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”
29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”
31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.
32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture—education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.
34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.
36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.
38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].
39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.
40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.
42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use [”]united force[”] to solve economic, political or social problems.
43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.
44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.
45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

You will note, American Dream 246, the goals focusing especially on education and the press. These goals, coupled with John Deweys Humanist Manifesto is what helped to bring this change.

“They should all be sent to Siberia for a while. May be that would clean their brain.”

It must start with our Biblical foundations, our institutes of learning( must be privatized), and the media.

Hitler did it - universal healthcare

Not quite universal. Three of my grandparents received EXTERMINATION as their care in their older years. They left this earth on their appointed EXTERMINATION DATES.
