‘Orgasmic’ Christ; Where’s the outrage from the Muslim world?

The 9 News link came to me via my Google alert for 'September 11'. As you will see, the museum also contains a gallery on that subject.

In a city-owned museum in Loveland, Colorado, where school children often make field trips, there is a 12-panel lithograph entitled "The Misadventures of the Romantic Cannibals" which the artist defends and the city refuses to remove. Not everyone there is amused.

"It depicts clearly a picture of our Lord Jesus Christ engaging in an oral sex act with another person," says Deacon Ed Armijo of St. John's The Evangelist Catholic Church. Deacon Armijo and several members of the community went to the gallery to voice their opposition to the exhibit.

The exhibit has raised a question society and the legal system have wrestled with for years: When does art go too far?

"I think people need to come in and see it for themselves. It is hard to take one piece in isolation. It is in the context of an exhibit and this one particular piece is not a stand alone piece," says Susan Ison, cultural services director for the City of Loveland.

I Googled the work's title and found it online. It is far sicker and more disgusting than the article describes. The second panel appears to have the cut off head of a soldier in a basket along with other "fruits," in keeping with the sexual theme. The fourth panel appears to portray...

Here is a pic of Mohammed with the fire

Here is what they say about it

The Prophet Muhammed in a Mosque. Turkish, 16th Century, painting on paper. The artist depicted Muhammed in very long sleeves so as to avoid showing his hands, though his neck and hints of his features are visible. Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

In Mediaeval times they were allowed to depict the Prophet. The flames around his head were a common image, signifying holiness.

Seriously, send a few emails to this Susan Ison, the cultural guru, and that exhibit will be shut down ASAP.

Point out to her that her exhibit is dissing The Prophet.

Get your Muslim friends (if any) to address the issue.

If I were part of the artistic community, I’d oppose such stuff for making all artists look bad.

Now that I look at it, I think you are correct that it is not supposed to be Christ and perhaps is supposed to be Allah. That should kick start the real radicals and earn Imam Rauf some more lib TV time.

And wearing a female outfit. I can’t read the text so maybe the half-naked woman is complaining that He is wearing her clothes.

There is some weird humor going on.

Depicting St. Therese of Lisieux as a maid is ironic. The Superior of Therese’s convent made her do all the dirtiest jobs. Therese won sainthood by doing all these chores cheerfully, and for the love of Christ.

Somehow I think this artist was raised Catholic.

They have a 1st Amendment right to create it yet their are a few questions here worth debating. Is porn protected free speech? Yes, yet their are limits to such protections. Children are brought to this museum and they should be protected from this. If consenting adults wish to view it, fine yet it should not be allowed in the public square.

Interesting. He may well have been raised Catholic. (I was and am one yet I can count on one hand the saints I know something about.) I do not care that he created it and am not against it being available, with a warning, for view by consenting adults.

When I think of the torments reserved in Hell for such who shall enter for all eternity, I simply shudder. I was recently reading a book by C.S. Lewis where he was talking about how the people who work for Satan will someday receive their payment in full. I don’t think they have a clue about the nature of the paycheck.

“It’s Mohammed... No, it’s Casper. Mohammed. Casper. Mohammed. Casper.”

It’s really hard to tell. I’m leaning towards Casper.

Really!

You'd think they'd be going nuts since Jesus is such a revered Islamic prophet.
