Arizona’s SB 1070 law is chasing out illegals: New Mexico is welcoming them, for now

Last spring when Arizona’s Governor Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 into law, both sides of the illegal alien issue knew it would have a major affect on the hundreds of thousands of illegals living in her state.

Nevertheless, neither side could envision what has happened so far. A study done by the Mexican government found that as many as 100,000 Hispanics (many presumably illegal Mexicans given the Mexican government’s strong support of illegals) had left Arizona in just the past several months.

The Mexicans have a strong interest in knowing where these people went because after oil export revenues, the money sent back to Mexico by their millions of citizens living and working here illegal is the nation’s second greatest source of income.

While the researchers found some 23,380 Mexicans who had been living in Arizona illegally had returned to their native land, the question remains: where did the other 75,000 plus go?

News reports have established that since the signing of SB 1070, New Mexico has experienced a sharp upturn in the number of illegals in its midst. Why would this be the case? How New Mexico handles the issuance of its drivers’ licenses may provide an answer.

In 2003 the State of New Mexico threw aside any pretense of interest in border integrity and changed its laws to allow for anyone to be issued a drivers’ license regardless of citizenship or residency status.

All that is necessary is residence in New Mexico. Currently if you show up, somehow prove you have a residence in the state and ask for one, you’ll be issued a New Mexico driver’s license.

Up to this point the only leverage State police have had is the “residence” issue. Not surprisingly they have arrested illegals from far away places like China.. more

I think Prince William County in VA also found the same thing from their law that was passed last year. Crime rate went down too.

Ironic that all the illegals are flocking to ... New Mexico.

Of course it works. But it will be rendered less effective if the states surrounding Arizona don’t pass similar laws.

Is New Mexico one of the 57 states of the US?

A Texas State Park?

It’s not really ironic. The actual irony is that the state of New Mexico welcomes them, provides them with a valid driver license and openly promotes their employment. I lived there over three years and now reside in a small town west of Phoenix. I personally wish to thank the state of New Mexico for taking in these pariahs who prey upon the social services of wherever they dwell.

Curious what the new Republican Governor of NM - Susana Martinez - thinks about this.

I saw the article about crime and violence being down in Prince William County in VA after they passed their new laws. Very encouraging. Now we must pray that the SCOTUS will allow these laws to pass constitutional review, as of course they should.

Susana campaigned on getting rid of the drivers licenses.

Also, a republican (Diana Duran) was voted in as Secretary of State - the first republican in the job since 1928. That will help clear up some of the murky election hijinks.

The mayor of Albuquerque, also an R, instituted a program where ICE interviews EVERYONE (to prevent charges of profiling) arrested in the city to determine if they’re an illegal.

We also made gains in the state house, with R’s only being down 7 on D’s.

Excellent! Pray that other (of the 57 states!) take the lead of Texas and New Mexico and vote in conservative/Pubbie Gov’s, SOS, AG’s, etc. This is the only way we’ll prevent the progressive crap that’s going on with elections, crazy judicial appointments, etc.

What is the currrent status of Obama’s efforts to thwart Arizona?

I think much turns on AZ’s reaction to this.

All that is necessary is residence in New Mexico

Residence, or a Residence Inn, will do nicely.
