Let's Not Forget Who Among Many Has Coarsened The Conversation
Legal Insurrection ^ | 1/13/11 | Wade Jacobson

As I posted yesterday, I thought Obama gave a good speech at the Tucson memorial.

The mainstream media, which has been seeking a way to redeem Obama's presidency, is portraying the speech as turning point in which Obama brought us all together, in contrast to Sarah Palin's allegedly divisive speech.

I don't see the speech having a lasting impact on Obama's presidency unlike George W. Bush's speech after 9/11.  While Tucson was a tragedy by any account, it simply was not on the scale of 9/11, and therefore Obama's speech was not of equivalent importance to the nation.

While we ponder the impact of the speech, let's not forget the role Obama has played in coarsening the national dialogue, going back to the campaign.  Rather than repeating what I have said before, here are some of my prior posts:

Having used divisiveness to push through Obamacare and other expansions of government, Obama now wants everyone to come together and lower the volume.

That's fine.  But it should not affect our policy goals one iota, or the vigor with which we seek to roll back some of the mistakes of the past two years.

No doubt at all that writer didn't get his t-shirt, but neither did I.

If the Democrats imagine they can attract voters with brand new t-shirts, they'll be needing to learn how to spread the wealth. A mere 20,000 isn't going to begin to cover the popularity deficit.

The whole tone of the ‘memorial’ was political & creepy, the motives of the planners obvious, but even so if BO had stopped his speech after his tributes to the victims I would’ve been willing to give him some credit.

And Michelle doesn't do "sincere" very well. Every shot of her merely added to the Wellstone Memorial feeling.

Well the media is certainly trying to use this tragedy to bolster Obama’s lagging ratings & are also distracting from who started the coarsening of the conversation.

Please, someone tell me, what was “good” about Obama’s speech? Inquiring minds want to know.

"Obama's presidency, is portraying the speech as turning point in which Obama brought us all together..."

This sounds as if the Nation has been torn apart or ripped into reality by the shooting. As horrific as it was, it didn't elicit the response the 9/11 did.

The need to portray Obama as bigger than life overwhelms the media.

[[As I posted yesterday, I thought Obama gave a good speech at the Tucson memorial.]]

Really? I wasn’t aware that hypocrisy was concidered ‘good’. Obama spouting off about how we need to hand our children a ‘better future’ AFTER he has done everything in his power to ensure that they will be saddled with debt, healthcare they can’t afford, jobs that are non existent because of heavy beurocratic regulations, pushing for Carbon regulations that will cripple future generations (and htis present one as well) etc etc etc

No- Obama’s speech wasn’t ‘good’- it was a worthless tickling of the ears to an overly fickle generation of sissies that want the government to hold their hands and whisper sweet NOTHINGS to them that sound as though it soothes the soul- but under the surface is NOTHING but a bald faced LIE

Obama’s ‘She opened her eyes’ statement about Gabby ensured that he be reelected as the guillible i nthis country watch in wide-eyed wonder at the miracle worker who ‘only wants a better future for everyone’ and to be the great ‘uniter’ looks them in the eye and Bull #$#$##@ his way back into their hearts and minds with his ‘together we thrive’ crap-

Nope- Last night’s pep rally was nothign more than a political oportunity for him to cash in on a trajic event to save his failing political hide, and anyone with a modicum of common sense can see right through his BS, but sadly, most Americans are so politcally fickle and feeble midned that they will fall for touchy feely moments like he presented and htink the rattlesnake has changed his spots.

How can someone who has violated our constitutional rights over and over again, stand on a podium and look us in the eye and tell us that he is ‘listening to us’ and carwes about us and our children with a straight face? One has to be compeltely devoid of conscience and have no sense of shame to BS the American people the way he did last night

Good speech? Sorry- it was nothign more than the usual leftist propoganda that pretends to care while secretly stabbing us in the back while we aren’t looking

Yes, Obama is quite the skilled magician- diverting our attention with touchy feely rhettoric while pulling hte rug out from under us while our attention is focussed on his flowery speech

It was disciplinary with some Hope & Change redux, but in fairness to the One, I caught only the last 10 minutes of the speech.

I don’t care much for Obama’s emotional projections on adversity. His rhetoric is tainted by callous disregard for our Liberties, the unborn, and Christianity.

Flowery speech? Gag.........his speech pattern actually makes my stomach hurt. That staccato, stop/start stop/start after every three words, drives me up the wall. I literally cannot force myself to listen to him. I only know about last night’s events from FR reports. Couldn’t bring myself to watch it.

Folks may think Obama looks good, talks good, sounds good, he may even smell good, but you take an x-ray to his heart and you will see the corruption, manipulation, and evil. He's a bad man. How long will people continue to be fooled by him? I fear for our Republic! What he has done to this country for the last two years is unforgiveable.

His little speech last night will not wipe out the harm he has done. It was nothing but political postering. He knew the whole world's eyes were on him. That's why it was held at a 14,000 seat arena. It had the effect of a pep rally. That's all Obama was doing . . . campaigning. His words meant nothing. He's an empty shell. A big zero.

to the fickle and feeble minded dolts hwo swallow everythign he says as thoguh it were stomach tonic, yes, his speech was flowery to them- I agree- I can’t stom ach the lies that proceed out of his mouth either, or the way he obviously politiks while speaking— but my fear is that he succeeded last night in regaining all those indepenedents who became disenchanted with him over the past two years with his messiah-like moments concerning gabby- the gasp from the crowd when he mentioned how she opened her eyes for the first time was really gut-wrenching- in a bad way- but those who thin k he’s the second coming just swallow any BS he throws their way

This country changes with the wind- onem inute they can’t stand him, the next, he pulls a miracle out of his butt, and they love him again- they simply can NOT see his heart- his REAL self- they are blinded by his false rhettoric- it’s really really sad how shallow and self-0serving and blind this country has become - I have honestly lost faith in our country’s ability to do the right thing as I’ve watched people time and tiem again vote in people that were so obviously blatantly false that one would htink it was so obvious that others would see through them and NOT vote for them- but nope- they go and vote for these folks perhaps htinking’ perhaps htis time will be different’- Are they really that dumb? Apparently so-
