Egypt: Mubarak's Not The One Who Should Resign
The Rubin Report ^ | Barry Rubin

This is not a game. This is the fate of the globe. This involves the lives of tens of millions of people. Partisanship and scoring political points is irrelevant.

Forget the spin; forget the ignorance about Egypt and the Middle East by instant experts (and sometimes by top intelligence officials). What has happened in the Egypt crisis?

The first point—which I’ve been warning about for more than two years—is the incapability of the Obama Administration on several different levels. Following George W. Bush, many people thought, was an easy act to follow. But the quality of the American leadership has grown worse.

There has been an attempt to spin President Husni Mubarak’s speech as some type of victory for the Obama Administration. Yet within hours this effort collapsed. The nation’s highest intelligence officials showed they had no idea what the Muslim Brotherhood represents, joked that they didn’t know any more than did CNN, and provided completely inaccurate information on the course of events in Egypt.

Your point requires the prerequisite that the Obama and his minions seek American success. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Maybe the tea partiers should camp out in front of the white house for 18 days. Maybe that would work for us.....

“the incapability of the Obama Administration on several different levels...”

Oh, he’s VERY capable....along with Ayers, Bernadine, Code Pink and who knows who else.

You nailed it, screaminsunshine.

This is the natural course of events resulting from electing a community organizer from Chicago President of the United States and “leader” of the free world.

What would our military do?
Egypts turned their guns from the crowd to the presidential residence.
Who would our infiltrated and PC-ed military support, the Constitution and the people, or the sitting government?
THAT is the main question in any ‘what if’ scenario.

There are MORE patriotic military, than traitors. Talk to some of them quietly that you know. I believe they would protect the constitution and the people.

How many protests will we have to have to have President Obama agree to resign?

I think this was prearranged between Mubarak and the military. He is a sick old man, and he needs a rest. But I do not think he has actually resigned. He has retreated into the background, leaving the military and his VP to defend the country.

I expect that the military will now give the protestors an ultimatim. And if they do not disperse, they will start shooting them. That way, Mubarak stays in the presidency until the fall election, but escapes the blame for the killings—which, I am sorry to say, will be well deserved at this point. Hopefully they will shoot more Communist agitators than deluded fools in the process. But that’s as may be.

The army has sided with the people and announced they have dissolved the parliament of Egypt and will establish a timeline for the people in order to meet their demands.

I am very happy for the people of Egypt. The saber rattling from our side and the scare tactics are so premature as to be deliberate trouble making.

We can oppose when there is something to oppose but I’m not buying this outrageous self interested party being thrown against the victory of humans dancing and singing in relief of oppression and tasting freedom.

I was going to leave this reply with Mr. Rubin, but ‘only team members’ are allow comments...so I’ll post it here:

I’m sorry Mr. Rubin, but you are part of the lie as well. You use the “P” word with the ILLEGAL-ALIEN in the White House. You have fallen pray to the deceit and the deception that a former INDONESIAN-PASSPORT-CARRYING-CITIZEN has waged on America. How can you call a person who has an ALIEN father, be a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN? How can you call this thug “(P)resident?”

As I watch the masses in Tahrir Square, I cringe when I WISH it could be happening in WASHINGTON SQUARE... but nay, our citizens sit and snooze watching AMERICAN IDOL and HARRY’S LAW. You imply that Mr. Soetoro (aka BHO) does not “get it.” DO YOU?

Hmmmm...would Øbozo go if 300/400,000 or so protestors gathered at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue seeking change (that we need rather than 'believe in')? Yeah, in our dreams.

Can you say; 'marshall law'!?!

This is the first intelligent article I have read to include what I have heard on TV. It has all been hysterical disinformation bunk.

I have lived through several coups. I know what the author, Barry Rubin, of the article is stating. I can follow it step by step. But I can’t impart it to you because nearly no one of you has lived through similar crises from beginning to end. But he has done an unbelievable excellent analysis.

You will just have to take my word for it that Barry Rubin has done an excellent, excellent analysis in this article. I lived every word he wrote.

I can tell from the few comments, the depth of the article was not understood by anyone so far.

If you haven’t lived through something like this, don’t knock it by pretending you know more.
