Mike Huckabee Attacks Natalie Portman; Really a Dig at Someone Else? (Britol Palin?)
Associated Content ^ | March 4, 2011 | Aida Ekberg

Mike Huckabee drummed up some publicity for his presidential run Thursday by attacking Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman. The former Arkansas governor's celebrity target of choice might seem like an odd one, perhaps he was really taking a low blow at someone else.

Politicians taking on celebrities to get media attention is nothing new. Former Vice President Dan Quayle attacked musician 2Pac Shakur when he was up for re-election in 1992, blaming the singer's album "2pacalypse Now" for influencing a man to kill a Texas Ranger. Fortunately, Mike Huckabee's attack on Natalie Portman isn't quite so serious.

During a radio interview, he complained that the actress is setting a bad example by having a baby out of wedlock, calling her out for glamorizing the idea of out-of-wedlock children and pointing out that most unwed mothers aren't living such glamorous lives, stating, "Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care."

During an interview with Us Magazine, his attempt to clarify his statement was little more than a plug for his book, as he went on to say, "These people should read my book and they would know what I said instead of what some left-wing partisans are attempting to put forth." So is Mike Huckabee's attack on Natalie Portman just a way to increase book sales?

This is very possible, but it's also possible that he was slyly taking a dig at one of his potential presidential opponents. After all, Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol had a child out of wedlock as a teenager....

It’s this kind of thing that makes all Republicans look judgmental and focused on the wrong thing. Record deficits and gas prices, an economy barely sputtering and the Middle East is on fire and Huckaboob is talking about a celebrity’s pregnancy? Meanwhile, he’ll defend hypocrite Michelle for eating more than a Tudor king against justifiable charges of hypocrisy.

At least Portman’s keeping her kid and not aborting the child. He might have at least made note of that. And no, I’m not some sort of defender of the Hollywood freaks. I can’t stand the liberal movie industry. But this kind of thing just gets used to make us all look like a bunch of religious fanatics. I wish he’d go back to playing banjo on Fox News and leave presidential politics to people who have some common sense.

You had to dig really deep to highlight this masterpiece. It is the equivalent to posting another comment on a FR thread as some cutting edge article.

And you can also refrain from using childish acronyms to label people on this forum you don't agree with. It only makes you look rather narrow and rigidly entrenched in one idea. I can also call your category the same like; POWDer. (Palin Obsessive Worship Disorder)

And never forget that you are not exclusively ordained as proper or correct, based on your singular opinion. We all have the same right to express our thoughts, ideas and opinions on an equal basis.

There is no there, there, in this silliness. I think you all feed on perceived slights to Palin, even one that isn’t there because you love the perpetual grievance campaign. She is perfect and everyone else isn’t. Oh Okay.

It feeds some thing in you. I tell you this, I don’t feel a bit bad or sorry for Palin. She puts herself and her family out there. If any of you think the opposition is going to be nice then you are fooling yourself. it will get worse.

If I have to vote for her in 2012, I sure don’t want to have to feel sorry for a person I am voting for as President.

But this piece? I can’t stand Huckleberry, but this is made up outrage. Slice and dice him for his huckyisms but don’t create outrage where there isn’t any.

If you would notice, many other potential candidates get grilled, sliced and diced right here every day. I slice and dice them right along with poor poor Palin.

Why don’t we talk about your constant shilling for Palin and denigration of any other person who may run? Do we talk about you and some of your bunch and how they badmouth everyone other than Palin? Do we cry and whine the way you do? Don’t think so.

It’s also a sin to be a glutton.

I don’t see the huckster calling out his wife, his daughter and two sons...all of them are gluttons.

“Nice?” Are you high?! No one in politics has EVER been attacked so vociferously as former Governor Sarah Palin, especially as she is a private citizen, the same as you and me. You need to cut back!

The difference here is that Portman is unrepentant and celebrates being “engaged” and pregnant. Bristol gives talks saying “I blew it” and encourages others not to do what she did. I don’t think this was a slap at the Palins. Hollywood is a moral cesspool.

That’s because they don’t have access to good nutrition information. I call for a national training program for the underserved to help them make better choices.

This is why I have such distaste for the sanctimonious so-cons, who flock to ignoramuses like Huckabee like flies on excrement.

While everything falls apart financially and internationally all they worry about is who’s zoomin’ who.

Sure they don't! It is only printed on every item they purchase.

Because if only they KNEW that eating candy and chocolate and drinking sugar-water soda would make them gain weight!

Next will you argue that ‘healthy food’ is more expensive?

That is a laugh!

I’m sorry for you. You should ask one of the widows of the police officers killed by a punk “Huck” PARDONED if they like “Huck” and would vote for him!

No, you need to face reality. George Bush was attacked just like Palin. He handled it like a man. She does not act as a private citizen, she comments as a FOX contributer. She puts herself out there and comments on political issues. That opens you up to attack. Do you really believe that no person can comment on her comments because she is a private citizen?. This piece attempts to attack Huckleberry for talking about Natalie Portman and going to the delusional extent of associating his remarks with Bristol. He is a private citizen too.

You dream all you like. It suits you. The truth is going to hit you smack dab between the eyes sooner rather than later.

Hyper-palinism on parade. I seem to remember a $3 million feature film made about the assassination of one George W. Bush not too long ago. I also remember crowds of a-holes chanting "hey, hey, LBJ, how many kids did you kill today" for weeks outside the WH. IWhy, just this morning I saw pictures of 'protesters' comparing a governor who didn't quit to Hitler.

We also might want to think about Gerald Ford, George Wallace, JFK, Lincoln, RWR and a score of other politicians who have been a bit more seriously attacked than the governor of Alaska who quit.

The premise of this article is completely fabricated by the author's fevered imagination. However, there is one gem in there that should not be missed:

"Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care."

Thus proving once and for all to any doubters out there that Huckabee has no understanding of the entitlement state, the role of government, human nature, responsibility or American Exceptionalism. We don't let babies starve. If the government didn't hand out welfare checks we still wouldn't let babies starve. Everyone in the United States, legal or illegal, has healthcare. Unfortunately only half of us pay for it. He should rightly get crucified for this one in any debate.

Maybe this is the reason that girls have so many abortions for fear of ridicule and mockery by people like Huckabee.

I actually heard Huckabee’s comments replayed about an hour ago on Mike Medved’s show. He did not attack Natalie Portman or call her names or anything of the sort. He commented on why so many of these actresses are celebrated for being single and pregnant, or fauxgaged and pregnant, while the reality for most single moms is hardly glamorous. I actually agree with that point. Regardless of station in life, children deserve a stable, two-parent home, raised by people who are absolutely committed to each other. It’s not about baby bump watches and putting off the wedding until you’re able to pencil it into your schedule or when you can fit into a designer wedding gown again.

Why would I defend Huck on this. I think his comments on this and other subjects are snarky.

I agree. See post #17.

This one should erase any doubt anyone might have had that Huckabee is about as far from an actual Conservative in political ideology as it is possible to be.
