On Birth Issue 'The Donald' Trumps Other Republicans
The American Thinker Blog ^ | March 24, 2011 | Jack Cashill

If Donald Trump's goal is to differentiate himself from those jelly-kneed Republican candidates too timid to ask even the most basic questions about President Barack Obama's origins, he is doing a bang-up job of it.

Wednesday morning on The View, Trump refused to buckle under the hectoring protests of the View panelists and even Whoopi Goldberg's shameless race baiting. "I want [Obama] to show his birth certificate!" said Trump defiantly, adding with a knowing edge, "There's something on that birth certificate that he doesn't like."

Here, Trump made precisely the right point. It is not that Obama was born in Kenya, but rather that there may very well be something on that certificate that does not square with the official Obama origins story, the one on which Obama based his political ascendancy.

In researching my book Deconstructing Obama, I found much that did match the accepted nativity story, most dramatically the fact that the storied Obama family never lived together. Indeed, there never was an Obama family save in the pages of Obama's often apocryphal memoir, Dreams from My Father.

When asked whether he could defeat Obama in 2012, Trump answered, "I think if I run and win and get the nomination, I definitely think I could beat Obama." If he sticks to his guns, he just might.

I know we are all on the good side here, but it makes me shudder to see discussion of Kerry raising issue with Bush’s military service ....

Without mention that Kerry was an out and out traitor to his country, meeting with the enemy during the war and refusing to this day to reveal the details, in which he obviously encouraged the communists.

That is something that very few seem to grasp. Or maybe don’t WANT to grasp, because the NBC and parentage questions lead researchers to a couple of prominent young Republican hopefuls.

Of course you are correct Scanian. “Born on the soil of citizen parents.” No way to tell if Trump is simply feigning ignorance, as most representatives have done, though they probably know the truth. It is harder for senators to play dumb, every senator in April of 2008 having signed Senate Res 511 in which Pat Leahy, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee agreed with Judge Michael Chertoff:

“My assumption and my understanding is that if you are born of American parents, you are naturally a natural-born American citizen,” Chertoff replied. “That is mine, too,” said Leahy.”

Avoiding the law they all acknowledged, a provision in the Constitution concurred upon by over a dozen SCOTUS justices, will most certainly be claimed their response to fear of the civil unrest certain to accompany removing the ineligible Obama. Perhaps we are all naive in assuming that the Constitution is any more than window dressing for the opinions of our political appointees, ironically called “Federal Judges.” They don't appear to be judges so much as creators of the law. If they don't like a law, as Prop 8 in California, or Obamacare in Florida, or the law passed by Wisconsin's legislature restricting collective bargaining, they make up a right, sometimes claiming constitutional authority.

Still, it appears that more citizens are beginning to grasp the law, and the truth. Most important to our framers is that whomever is made president has inherited allegiance to our nation, our Constitution, “..of parents not owing allegiance to any foreign sovereignty.” Those were 14th Amendment author John Binghams words to the House as he explained the significance of his amendment to make blacks, who had no presumed allegiance as slaves, citizens. The first generation of black citizens would beget children who were then natural born Citizens, eligible to the presidency.

It was about allegiance, and we see now how important that criterion is. John Jay, who reminded Washington to include natural born Citizen as a presidential eligibility requirement, wrote the first four Federalist Papers on the dangers of foreign intrigue. Our “Global Citizen” is just the danger Jay had in mind. Our legislature has failed us, and we must, while we still can, replace all legislators who will not clearly, and publicly, recite the definition of natural born Citizen. No hiding behind “never defined in the Constitution.” Almost no terms were defined in the Constitution. It was the intention of the framers that the Constitution be dependent upon the common language at the time of the framers. That way the meanings of the framers would not change as the meanings of words change over time.

That dependence upon the common language, common-law, was clarified by Chief Justice Morrison Waite in Minor v. Happersett, 1874:

“The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners.”

I know you know this history Scanian, but the majority appears not to. The more who understand that Obama is ineligible, not because of some hidden documents, but because of our Constitution, the more clear the path to return to a Constitutional republic. The truth was avoided by Republicans because McCain too was ineligible, but not due to questions of allegiance. McCain was born on foreign soil - a technicality which we can and should address legally. Claire McCaskill’s SB 2678, “A Bill to Insure that Foreign Born Children of Military Citizens are Eligible to The Presidency” was not to help McCain. A bill can't modify the Constitution. It was a warning to McCain to keep Republicans quiet about Obama’s ineligibility or Hillary would run against whoever the Republicans dug up, because McCain too was ineligible (or why try to pass a law, cosponsored by Obama), and the case against him had been addressed in a dozen legal briefs, the WaPo, NYT, and three law suits - never resolved.

“I do know that it offers no indication of an adoption whatsoever.”

I assume you’re not from Hawaii, else you’d have volunteered this. Does anyone who has investigated Hawaii’s rules know whether what you describe mirrors what happens in Hawaii?

I guess the question is whether even if Hawaii uses the same procedures, does that provide a ‘reasonable’ explanation of why Barry’s kept his BC hidden? How does having Soetoro appear as his father pose a threat? He’s already acknowledged a father who is not an American citizen, so who cares whether that father is African or Indonesian?

In theory, it gets in the way of Barry’s “blackness” which might have been an issue in the campaign, but was moot once he was elected. He’s already put out his family story in print: this detail arguably would make him a more sympathetic figure. He could claim Mom was so ashamed of his being a bastard child that she tried to spare him by “fixing” his BC, but apparently “relented” by letting him meet his real dad at age 10. No one would ever claim he looks even remotely like Soetoro: it’s obvious he genuinely has black roots even if we may be uncertain exactly who that black father is. Indeed, he could “prove” he has no Soetoro DNA by having a test between his DNA and his half-sister’s DNA to demonstrate this.

So I go back to the question of what would motivate him to hide the fact that Soetoro is listed as his real father on the BC?

Agree; but what is the issue with Marco? He was born in Miami.(l971). He is a ‘star’ among lessers, in Repub Party and he instills fear in Dem Party hierarchy. (l971) And with that; think he should have more prominent role. Wish we would see more him.

I’d like to see everyone who runs offer up their BC and their college records, then challenge Zero to do the same.

Well done by Mr. Trump.

The Kenyan clown should produce all of his birth and citizenship documentation: passports, visas, birth records, school records, and all other records related to citizenship and residence.

That fact that we are now into his third year of his occupancy of the Oval Office without answering the simplest questions about Obama's eligibility to serve in this office is an embarrassment to a great nation. The Kenyan clown has most likely pulled off the worst fraud and usurpation since the days of Rome.

I give Trump credit. In his business dealings he has dealt with nastier people and brighter people. This was a cake walk for him.

Trump is a flip-flopper on his many donations to political parties. He supported Rahm Emanuel you know -— he’s a kinda’ guy that will contribute to what works for him and in that I’m suspect. Anything he does is all about him , to his benefit and to HIS welfare in the political & public arena.

You and me both. Another thing. Remember how the media always demanded information about Bush’s health?

Obama has never been asked. What is that big scar on his head? Did he have brain surgery?

Loved when Whoopi was on defense; offering that 'of course' Obama had childhood friends and classmates remembered him. Then invite them on your show Whoopi; probably more than a few in NYC, who remember at least, a college-aged Obama, given his attendence at Columbia; no?. . .

Find them; invite them on. (Put an 'all points' bulletin out courtesy of The View as that it what it will take.) Post in Pakistan as well.

He makes me laugh. He has the guts to just come out and say it instead of twiddling around the issue.

That is the kind of guts we need speaking out. You can’t deal with the left by being shy.

I don’t think he is a conservative, but on this issue he rocks.

you know what would bust Whoopi’s gut?

Make her wear a typical Shiite hejab-the veil, aka “chador”-
(not necessarily the ones worn in Afghanistan)under penalty of incarceration in a dank prison in Iran known as EVIN Prison.

She’d be crying all day long ‘cause she can’t go w/o it on the streets of Teheran.

That’s right, the same stuff that any applicant would be expected to produce for a position of responsibility.

If his parents were not citizens when he was born in Miami, he is not a NBC since his folks retained allegiance to Cuba.

He would clearly be a US citizen, just not a natural born citizen.

The Castro regime has tried to muddy the waters by saying that no Cuban can renounce his citizenship, nor can the children of a Cuban. Even as strict as I am about constitutionality, I refuse to accept the reasoning of a brutal communist dictatorship.

I supported Marco for the Senate starting in early ‘09 but the NBC issue played no role in the Senate position. When people started talking him up for the presidency, I tried to establish whether his folks had received citizenship by 5/71 and I haven’t been able to find out one way or another.

All Marco has to do is produce the citizenship records.

SCOTUS really needs to clarify this NBC issue. It never has and it is about time. If they don’t, the issue will result in endless debate with no resolution.

“I know you know this history Scanian, but the majority appears not to”

I believe that is because they find ambiguity on the issue to be politically expedient for them.

Yes, I read all the history and congressional deliberations on the subject back in ‘08. I’d like to see a SCOTUS clarification but many here would object to that as well, saying that no modern court can be trusted to uphold the Constitution, etc.

"Kudos for being the first to report on Barry’s early Indonesian years. But what exactly would be the motivation for spending great gobs of money on hiding the fact that his original BC was modified to make Soetoro his father?"

Thank you for your kind comments.

I'm not sure of the motivation - I can however speculate

Amending the BC to have Lolo as the father enabled a young Obama to attend public school in Indonesia - otherwise the young Obama would have to attend a private school there - you might also note that Obama entered Occidental as Barry Soetoro

No one is going to care about Obama’s history. Lets focus on his record as president. Run against him on that

FRAUD is something that nearly everyone understands even if they think socialism might be made to work. If Cashill were a reporter writing in the NY Times, Obama would have already been shamed into resignation.

I know....you are right.

I just had a “brain fart” this morning, mixing up the 2000 election with 2004.

It created some curiosity about dirty tricks by Kerry in 2004 to match the DUI smear in 2000 by Gore’s people.

I think it was Rathergate and questioning of W’s military service that I had mixed up with the DUI business from the previous election.

No biggie. Kerry is still a pig. I’m still amazed that he received the number of votes that he did.
