I don’t know why Trump is doing this except that he is a man who knows how to exploit a weakness. The weakness is not really the Birth Certificate...it IS about transparency and openness. The more he talks about this, the more he needs to ...and I think has to a degree...say that Obama’s lack of transparency on this issue is the same as he governs. ALSO more importantly, he needs to hammer the other documents that Obama refuses to release. If it were just the BC, it would be one thing...he needs to keep asking...why won’t he release his real Birth Certificate...his transcripts at all of his colleges especially since no one remembers him. While Obama is on the ropes for lack of transparency, Trump should be showing his actions as simply a continuing pattern.
It’s a cynical political calculation to establish some conservative street cred. And highly entertaining.

There are some great posts on this thread. I’ll try to add to the mix.
First, IMO, Hillary and O have enough goods on each other that neither one dares to make a move. It is probably not in Hillary’s interest for evidence of O’s ineligibility to surface.
The Trump knows how to measure people and he knows politics. Obama has a primary weakness and that is his failure to qualify - even if he is somehow qualified, which on the face of it seems impossible.
Trump is willing to parlay that political weakness for his benefit like no politician has to date. And that is what politics is all about.
As others have stated, Trump has the experience and ability to conduct the necessary background research and he may have done enough to feel comfortable with his public statements. Any such research would include talking with Lucas Smith; LtCol Lakin’s former HI attorney brother, folks in Kenya and England along with others who are unkown to the public.
IMHO, when this started The Donald was the punchline to a joke about who might get the R nomination. Now, I’d say he’s in the top ten. He’s getting great press, and moving up in the ranks, simple as that...
maybe he thinks his business will do better if this country does not becomes a moslem or commie hellhole

2. he is calling Obama’s bluff. By becoming a lightning rod for the issue, Trump is defanging Obama’s administration and any regulations Obama wants. NO MATTER where anyone is on this issue, it begs the question of why Obama has kept his real birth certficate concealed.
-is he not born in the USA?
-was his name changed?
-was he adopted and this would show?
-did they show religion at that time?
3. It sets Obama as somebody nobody likes. Obama is forced publicly to not appear as “one of us” united states citizens. Obama not likeable.
Trump did not go bankrupt, one of his companies filed a chapter 11 reorganization.

Please correct where required: Frank Marshall Davis, “Uncle Frank” a black ‘poet’ and an admitted communist, impregnates Stanley Ann Dunham, the 17 year old daughter of his best friend and ‘fellow traveler’ Stanley Dunham. Stanley Ann is a student at the University of Hawaii after graduation from high school in Mercer Island, Washington, her family’s recent home. She is known to frequent the student union with international types. (Read NOT a Kappa).
Stanley meets an aggressive sophisticated mature man (25?) from Kenya called Barack Obama whose family ties include a wife, children and cousins active in Kenyan politics. He is at the UH on a American foundation-sponsored outreach program to keep Kenya from migrating back to tribal warfare after its imminent independence.
Stanley Ann wants to have the married Davis’ child and she and her folks arrange to have Obama enter a marriage of convenience to deal with the baby’s racial mix. He agrees for some consideration, perhaps political. Stanley Ann to avoid scrutiny of a bi-racial birth travels to likely (1) a Florence Crittenden-type home in Vancouver BC to have the child whom she proudly shows to her best high school girlfriends in Merritt Island 4 weeks after his birth, or less likely (2) Mombasa to meet her future family. In either case, she is a matriculated student at the University of Washington in Seattle living with her 6 week old infant when classes begin in September 1961.
Her mom calls in the birth to the registrar in Honolulu so that the child is recorded as born in Hawaii. The newspapers treat it as just another birth. Why? Everyone did it including Sun Yat Sen and Maya Soetoro, the President’s half-sister who admittedly was born in Indonesia. Both had or have Hawaiian COLB’s. Apparently the state welcomed this evasion as it boosted their census of for federal allocations and handouts etc.
This scenario only permits the ‘notation’ of a called in birth as there is no long form. No hospital, attending physician, etc. When Gov. Abercrombie looked , that is what he found, a notation. It had to be handled that way so that future requests from such Hawaii convenience births
had a smidgen of detail to issue, down the road, a driver’s license or what have you to the recipient.
Once the black voters find out that Hillary Clinton is up to this having Donald Trump advocating the birth certificate issue, she will lose the black vote and her last great chance to become President, it’s a NO WIN risk for Hillary.
Is it possible that Trump talked to political operatives in one party or the other before starting this? Sure. But maybe, like Ross Perot, he's a loose enough cannon that he's not just doing somebody else's work.
The Dem’s want rid of O and Trump is the lead guy to oust him.
