I turned FOX on at 2PM..caught the WH press briefing, and then the first few minutes of Shep Smith's program. The presser was a disaster. Unmitigated. Here's a fearless predicition..within one or two more news cycles, we will hear that the SEALS killed an unarmed Bin Laden who was trying to surrender. Several journalists tiptoed around the question, and Shep actually "wondered" aloud how an "old man" could have resisted SEALS. And as I type, he actually asked if this operation was "illegal."
Looks like he was invited at the last minute, then told to sit in the little chair in the corner and shut up. There was no space for him at the adult table.
Bronze that and I will ask Jimbo to rivet to the top of the FR homepage!

LOL
I’d pay real money, or a tank full of gas, to watch them try and arrest SEAL Team 6.
now that would be a reality show!

closer, but still no cigar. :-)

You know, it’s amazing how small Obama looks in that picture, like he’s the General’s aide sitting next to him.
One last thing. For a long time, Bin Laden and other terrorist leaders had accused the US of being a paper tiger. They said we didn’t have the guts to go after them. That we’d run at the first sign of blood. That we would just lob bombs and missiles from far away and didn’t have the stones to come and fight them on the ground.
They used examples going back to Reagan leaving Beirut in 1983 to bailing from Somalia in the early 90s to Clinton firing cruise missiles into Afghanistan in the late 90s, etc...
One thing this did was totally end that notion. Obama showed them that we will come after them. That it isn’t just about sending a few tomahawks from hundreds of miles off shore or dropping a few bombs from 30000 feet. We will find them, we will come to their home, and we will put a bullet in their head and watch them die...the old fashioned way. He showed them we’re not afraid to get down and dirty, to come after them on the ground. To hunt them down and finish them off. That they can’t hide from us. That Allah won’t be there to save them.
The optics and the impressions are a bit different when you go in and personally blow the guy away(and take his body to boot) vs blowing up some compound from the air and then saying “well, we found this fragment of hair and it’s him”. One leaves a much more lasting impression.
And while I don’t really care for Obama, I give him credit for recognizing that and ordering a mission that while filled with risks also promised rewards. He had confidence and faith in the men to carry it out and they did.
Except we told the world that we had that data before it was even back in country to be analyzed.
So the people who were identified had plenty of time to get out of Dodge.
I remember one time Bush waited weeks before announcing a major capture, so they could use the information.
And it’s not like Obama wouldn’t have gotten the same credit if he waited a week to say Osama was dead, or if he would have gotten less credit if the information leaked out as rumor first. After all, he blew the announcement so we all know ahead of time anyway.
Panetta is insisting he gave the order to GO. Obama was not so sure.
We will never know the truth but a leopard does not change it’s spots and leading from behind is in Obamao’s DNA
Perhaps. I’m just saying that going in on the ground was probably better than simply blowing up the compound for a number of reasons. Yes, it was more dangerous, but that’s why he have these forces, that’s why they train so hard, that’s what they’re there for.
So, the raid by the SEALS was a better option than an airstrike for a number of reasons.

Wow!
It was an illegal operation.
There is no way that its legal, under Pakistani law, for American troops to enter their country without a visa and shoot some old unarmed douchebag right in the face.
Now its up to the Pakistani police to arrest somebody.
Wasn’t it Eric Holder who stated that he would consider a indictment/arrest warrant from those marxists in Spain to hand over GWB and Cheney for war crimes?
Guess what Obama/Holder, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander!

Sheesh. Think I’ll keep my day job, Steyn’s job is in no danger from this soccer mom! LOL.
I agree.
