Time to write your officials about Afghanistan

Posted on 05/22/2011 9:35:24 PM PDT by Card-Carrying American

As we approach the July deadline, Congress and the President will be wringing their hands over how many troops to withdraw and how fast. Our President, Senators, and Representatives in DC need to know that we don't want them to throw away the hard fought progress our troops have fought and died for over the last year! We're finally, belatedly, close to victory. Don't let politics throw it away.

I use www.congress.org but there are other sites that do the same thing. Find one you like. Free account creation. Then in just a few clicks you can send a single note to all of your elected officials, state or federal. They'll also send you emails whenever your representatives vote, if you want. That can be quite educational. It's easy.

Here's the letter I just sent:

I'm writing to urge you to allow the Generals in Afghanistan to determine the pace of troop withdrawals.

It is critical as we decide how many troops to withdraw from Afghanistan this summer, that we do not jeopardize the hard won gains achieved in the last year from the surge.

Nothing could be worse than throwing away the progress our troops have died for. We must not leave Afghanistan until the job is done; that job being to ensure the Taliban can never return to power and host terrorist groups. We are finally, belatedly, reaching that goal. We need to FINISH THE JOB, not ruin it at the end.

The Generals are in the best position to determine the pace that still allows us to achieve our goals.

We're finally, belatedly, close to victory.

What makes you say that?

LOL, sure we are newb. No slight to our awesome troops, but they can only do so much given the leadership we have and the ROE that ties their hands. Our leaders haven't wanted a real victory since WWII.

I assume you'll be picking up arms to join the battle immediately? Or will you insist on someone else to die for your cause?

We don't need to be in Astan.

We need to be in Pstan!

It doesn’t seem to me we are that involved in Iraq or Afgahnistan, not in any real kinetic way.

Does the White House really need to submit a report every 60 days and ask for further funding. /s

Close to victory? If victory means returning the Taliban to power, sure.

Hi there!

It’s almost nice almost having the chance to get to know you.

This here is the “NEWS” Forum.

You are a blogger, and what you are doing is called “Pimping your blog.” If that sounds like a pejorative description, it’s because it’s a pejorative description.

Like I said - “almost” and by the way - IBTZ!

“We’re finally, belatedly, close to victory. “

LOL! As defined by WHAT? Unconditional surrender of the Taliban? An end of terrorist hostilities from that country? What?

For all our global escapades, we have not really won a single war - ie vanquished our enemy, destroyed their will to fight, and obtained an unconditional surrender - since WWII.

Our troops may be of good intentions and of great warrior spirit, but they have allowed themselves to be used in undeclared “conflicts,” “police actions,” and “overseas contingency operations” of truly dubious national interest, operations specifically designed by globalists to prohibit actual victory.

Thank You !

Dumb question: if I write or publish what I believe is a newsworthy blog entry, is there a proper way to promote it?

Obviously, this moron takes me back to “piece is at hand” days of Hank Kissinger. So, not the NEWS forum, then?

Hi! You asked why I thought we were close to victory. In 2006, total forces (Afghan and Allied) opposing the Taliban was around 100,000. And the Taliban were winning. Now that number is around 500,000, and the Taliban are no longer gaining ground but in fact losing. In 2006 they held all the approaches to Kandahar and the Helmand and Arghandab River Valleys. Now they hold none of those places.

Last week the Taliban launched a major attack on Kandarhar and got their rears handed to them by the Afghan security forces. That never would have happened in 2006.

Thanks for the warm welcome to FR. You say “I assume you’ll be picking up arms to join the battle immediately? Or will you insist on someone else to die for your cause?”

How do you know I haven’t already served a tour there? I could post that I had, but something in your tone makes me feel you’d just disbelieve it. Say otherwise and I’ll see if we crossed paths.

Aw...I hope I’m not zotted on my first post :(

It was the “activism” in the News/Activism forum title that drew me to issue a call to write to officials in this one.

If it’s the FR way to post that kinda thing in the blog side, fine. Live and learn.

Sure I’m a blogger. As far as I can tell, that’s not forbidden here. I really was trying to generate more letter writing.

Do I get to say IBTZ on my own post?
