Beck and Family Harassed During Outdoor Movie Night in NYC Park
The Blaze ^ | 6/28/2011 | Jonathon M. Seidl

There are those who love freedom of expression, as long as it’s not conservatives who are doing the expressing. Just ask Glenn Beck. On radio Tuesday, he told the stunning story of how he and his family were harassed during an outdoor movie in New York City’s Bryant Park.

For those unfamiliar with Bryant Park, it hosts weekly showings of classic films during the summer months. Attendees bring blankets and picnic dinners and sprawl out on the park’s great lawn while watching the films on a giant screen.

As Beck explained, he attended Monday night‘s public showing of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The 39 Steps” with his wife and daughter. During the film, he was ridiculed, had someone “kick a cup” of wine on his wife and on his blanket, and even witnessed another person stand up and yell, “We hate conservatives here!”

“These people were some of the most hateful people I have ever seen,” Beck said. “All I wanted to do is go out on a blanket with my family and have dinner in the afternoon sun and sit around Americans, not like-minded Americans, and just watch a movie in the park. And last night at about‑‑ when the movie was just about over, my wife and I got out because it was hostile.”

Later, when Beck left near the end of the movie, the crowd applauded.

“Looking for trouble”??? If you’re not a LIEberal, you shouldn’t be free to go out during the day??? That’s certainly what you’re implying with that idiotic post.

Holly, I think you might not be happy in New York.

You seem to assume too much about those you don’t know.

He used to have a house in CT till just recently. A lot of people work in NYC and don’t live there.

I truly hope to see the day when Glenn utters the immortal words of Davy Crockett, “...you may all go to hell, and I will go to Texas.”

"I think we have a couple of liberals here."

They'd better not go out in public without their burka. They may offend any CONSERVATIVES who might be present. /sarc

“Kind of hard to live elsewhere unless he commuted a long distance.”

I think he could easily afford to live in Greenwich,CT and a driver to bring him into Manhatten everyday. I would guess his salary is in excess of $4 million.

He can afford to live anywhere he chooses.

Overstating the blanket and its appearance. It’s a quilt with a abstract flag design. The Beck family has no difference in appearance or size from other family groups in those photos.

I’m referring more to his schedule and the proximity to his family.

Idiotic eh? Do you have any idea what you are talking about? Do you know were he was? If someone wants to live in a Marxist enclave, that’s fine with me. Just don’t whine on the radio like he did this morning about how all the people around him are rude Commie Pinkos. The city hates him so much they yanked his radio show off the air there last year. No ratings.

He can feel free do sit on a flag in the middle of Bryant Park all day long. Just don’t be surprised when the locals try to ruin your day.

What he did here is the equivalent of wearing a Jets jersey to an Eagles home game.

"FWIW, I wouldn't dream of treating even Michael Moore this way."

Oh, I do. That way and worse. And he's not the only one.

They kicked a glass of wine on his wife. Thats more than rude, it’s actually assault. This reminds me of those who blame women for getting raped. Personal responsibility is important, and he was minding his own business.

I get your point, but it's not quite the same thing. You go to a sporting event, it's one team v. another in a competitive event, and fan bases are expected to be rooting for/against each other. A movie in the park isn't a competitive event with winners and losers.

Now, I agree that reaction should have been expected/anticipated given that they are all rude liberal pukes. But then, if his goal was to point out how rude and intolerant the left is, he succeeded in doing so.

Or to be pithy, just because it was predictable doesn’t make it any more excusable.

I’m sorry this happened to Glenn and his family.

But Mr. Beck survived and is now off to find courageous people. All he has to do is go to the Nederlands on his way to Israel and meet and apologize to that truly courageous person he has called a fascist - Geert Wilders.

Glenn cries about being called a ‘creature’ by the Washington Post, but it’s ok for him to call a courageous hero, the head of the Partij Voor de Frijheit, a fascist.

What happened to Glenn in some NYC park is a picnic compared to the constant life threats Mr. Wilders endures every day.

By the way, Mr. Beck, Geert Wilders was recently exonerated of the hate speech charges maliciously filed against him by Muslims.

I know people in New York City and they have told me they prefer them to George bush or Republicans. NYC sucks!
