Rick Perry’s Political Judo

As I have said before, it constantly amazes me to watch what the media describes as “experienced” senior campaign advisers fail to follow through and do their research. “Know thy enemy” is the first rule of politics 101 and yet supposed ” unbeatable” campaign influence peddlers have failed to learn this lesson when it comes to Rick Perry. I t is downright amusing to watch the show.

<snip>

Perry’s people will either leak something Perry has said that is “damaging” in the past or will leak something written to the media. It is either this or it is said in a debate or press conference. His campaign will give the opponent the time (perhaps a day, perhaps a week) to pontificate, make numerous statements to the media, put out an op-ed or a flier and then BOOM! out of no where comes the carefully researched counter punch from the Perry team. They will usually do it in the most public and splashy way-guaranteed to knock the opponent on his/her knees. He/or she will either have to back up their past actions or restate or renege on the ones just uttered. The opponent will have to have a hinged spine in order to whipsaw back and forth trying to re-cover. The opponent forgot to check for long term consequences before he JUMPED for the bait so temptingly hanging out there. I have witnessed this happen to both Karl Rove and to David Axelrod’s candidates.

Sorry, troll-boy.

You Perrysites can spam every thread here on FR, but the rest of the country actually heard the debates, and they heard the boos.

The bloom is coming off the rose, the Texas blitzkrieg campaign by acclamation is failing.

Cheers!

I like Sarah a lot, but I also like Perry.

I will say this. My biggest potential worry about him (or any candidate for that matter) is that he would be a squishy conservative when he got into office like George W.

If that happened, it would set our cause back tremendously. What I have researched on Perry suggests to me he would not turn out that way, but there are no guarantees.

If Sarah does decide to run and can demonstrate to me that she can run a serious, stable campaign, I would be very likely to shift my support. If she doesn't run though, Perry looks to me like the best of the bunch -- especially after Bachmann's collapse tonight.

I just do not understand the continued hype for Perry. Doesn't make sense.

IMO, the thinking is: "Perry seems like he can beat Obama, therefor vote for Perry."

That's how we wound up with Bush. Bush grew the Debt and the Federal Govt MASSIVELY.

The reasoning for McCain was "The media likes McCain, and will treat him fair, therefor vote for McCain." How'd that work out for us?

People aren't looking at Perry as a LEADER, they're just calculating who could maybe beat Obama.

Sarah said it right: the question is not just to replace Obama, (that's a given) but what to replace him with.

Just curious. Outside of immigration (concern for me as well) and Gardasil (not so much), on which issues do you feel Perry has positions that are not conservative?

Outside of immigration -- that's not enough? Add the Gardasil fiasco, the TTC, the endorsement of a pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-Second Amendment liberal, cross dressing freak named Rudy Giuliani for president and Perry isn't even in the ball park of being conservative.

I know many people like Perry; I don't understand why, but I know they do. But had Obama done ANY of the above mentioned things NO ONE would consider him conservative for having done so and they would probably ALL criticize him for having done them. But Rick Perry does these things and he gets a pass?! I don't get it.

Yes, they did. Seems Americans are catching on to what a fraud Mitt Perry is.

Gingrich always sounds good, but he always does stupid stuff. Making the commercial sitting next to Pelosi on the climate change couch comes to mind.

“...but Sarah Palin only has one vote...we have the many many votes...”

Exactly how many mice do you have in those pockets?

Sarah is not my first pick even if she does finally make a dang decision. But she (and MB, RS) is right on this one. Perry was -and still is- wrong.

Of course I’m not insane, I’ll vote for any of them in the general.

I am NOT making an excuse for Newt, but he had just converted to Catholicism and probably attends church with Nancy.

Bingo ... There is NOT a candidate on that stage who would fail to beat Obama. Even Huntsman would beat Obama -- the democrats would rather vote for Huntsman than their own candidate. So why don't we give a genuine conservative a shot this time around and see what happens with that. For once, perhaps the only time in our lifetimes, we don't have to settle. I'd sure hate to see this opportunity tossed away by people afraid of being beaten by a failed Obama.

They hype is about job creation and who can lead us back to prosperity along the lines of Reagan. This election is not about Gardasil or in-state tuition for illegal. It is about JOBS. Perry has governed Texas for the last 10 years, and our state, under his leadership, has created 40% of ALL the new jobs in the United States in the past two years. Perry is the conservative to Romney’s RINO. He has never lost an election, and he will wipe the floor with Obama in 2012. That’s why the hype.

Funny that you mentioned Bush. On another thread I just mentioned a bit ago that watching Perry reminded me a lot of watching Bush. I sense a certain parallel there. I don't think that helps him -- especially as Bush started the "too big to fail" bailouts.

We the people will decide what this election is about. And government does not create jobs.

No doubt immigration is a biggie.

I don't believe the claim that he has a dream of open borders (although I know some on here do). I think he definitely wants the border secure, and he has even proposed some plans for making that happen. Having said all that, I do have problems with his position on some illegal immigration issues.

On the other hand, his stance on guns, spending, entitlement reform, taxes, regulations, tort reform, abortion, and many other issues is identical to mine. He is clearly very conservative on all of those topics.

I understand if immigration is a deal breaker for some. I really do, but the claim that Perry is a "liberal" is as mystifying to me as my support of him is to you.

Romney as a liberal I can see. McCain as a liberal I can see. Perry as a liberal I honestly don't get at all.

Bachman is clearly a Romney operative .
Her comment was over the top and disgraceful.
To falsely accuse a fellow Goper on national tv was unreal.
She is doing OBama work for him .

The enemy is OBama not Perry so to say that ugly smear was
beneath a GOP candidate.

Government can certainly kill jobs. What government does is create an environment for job creation. That’s what Perry did through easing business restrictions and regulations, taxes, etc. Thats why companies are flocking to Texas. He will do the same for the US, and jobs will RETURN to the US. We the people will, in fact, decide. we will elect Perry.
