In a slander or libel suit, I believe that the burden of proof is on the plaintiff to prove the defendant lied willfully. In cases such as this, a lawsuit is almost impossible to win, and does nothing more than give an opportunity for the MSM to publicize the libel/slander.

Yep. The last thing a candidate for office can afford to do is to wrap him- or herself up in such lawsuits.
