Mormon bishop's daughter spills Romney's 'secrets' ...

The daughter of a Mormon bishop who has abandoned her family's faith claims in a new book the election of Mitt Romney to the presidency would put the U.S. in danger due to what she calls the Republican's "outrageous," "horrific" and "mind-controlling" beliefs.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his wife, Ann

"While he attempts to portray Mormonism as just another Christian religion, Mitt Romney counts on his skills to shift our attention away from what he truly believes," says Tricia Erickson, author of "Can Mitt Romney Serve Two Masters? The Mormon Church Versus the Office of the Presidency of the United States of America."

"If the American people knew what he truly believed, they would surely not place him in the highest office in the land."

Yet others, such as professor Richard Bushman, a Mormon and previous missionary himself who has taught at Harvard, Columbia and Brown Universities, are defending the faith. He calls Erickson "disillusioned" and someone who "instead of walking away felt an obligation to discredit [her] former faith."

Find out what's really in the Bible and what's not, and learn your spectacular destiny that's rarely ever discussed in church in this autographed No. 1 best-seller!

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the official name for Mormonism, has rocketed into the national consciousness this month since Rev. Robert Jeffress, a Rick Perry supporter who pastors the First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas, said Romney was "not a Christian" and that Mormonism is a "cult."

"Part of a pastor's job is to warn his people and others about false religions," Jeffress said Sunday, standing by his controversial remarks. "Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Mormonism are all false religions."

I don’t like Romney; he talks a good game in the debates, but I don’t trust him for what he said to get elected in Massachusetts.

That said, this is disgusting. Romney’s religion disqualifies him from speaking in my church; in no way should it disqualify him from driving that Islamocommie trash from the White House.

I hate this stuff. There are plenty of good reasons to oppose Romney but his religion should not be one of them. I think it’s downright unAmerican to attack a man’s faith.

“There are plenty of good reasons to oppose Romney but his religion should not be one of them.”

Definitely. It doesn’t appear that (while largely bad) his positions as governor weren’t driven by the spooky religion the toothless villagers attack him for; no reason to think they would be if he were President either (disclaimer: NOT a Romney supporter).

I gave up on WND long ago. They have a few interesting items but all they want is to sell books. IMO

Mormon Sites - rising from the dust... Finding Physical Evidences of Nephites in the Americas. Book of Mormon Geography Finding Book of Mormon Cities Everything on this website is Pro-LDS

So, what do Mormons believe, and should it help determine his qualification for the office of President of the United States?

Would I ask this question regardless of his faith...Islam, Buddist, Baptist, Catholic, etc.?

To answer my question, I searched "Mormon reading room," so I could read their own materials, and found "Mormon Sites--Rising From the Dust" to inform myself.

I found these readings consistant with what I found in the Mormon bookstore I visited while living in a Mormon community.

The boxers or briefs question was asked by a high school student who was a studio member on an MTV election special where Mr. Clinton was being interviewed. The shock was not that a stupid kid asked the question but that a serious candidate for the US Presidency answered it.

You questions demonstrates that your maturity level is about the same as the average high-school aged MTV viewer.

Religion should not prohibit someone from being legally allowed to run for any office.

Religion should absolutely be a basis of voting for or not for someone based on personal beliefs by individual voters.

Just what was Dr. Jeffress supposed to say when asked about Romney's religion?

As he said it is his responsibility to warn people about false religions.

As for being unamerican, I live in an active duty military home and bleed RED WHITE and BLUE, an I agree with Dr. Jeffress.

"I think it's downright unAmerican to attack a man's faith."

Romney: "A person should not be elected because of his faith nor should he be rejected because of his faith."

I beg to differ ... I think what a candidate believes bears heavily on his suitability for the Presidency. No person should be rejected because of his faith? Does that include voodoo practitioners and Satan worshipers?

I think there is, however, a great lack of knowledge of Mormon beliefs. I think we need an objective exploration of what belief system Mormons embrace. I honestly can't claim to really understand it. Although in my case it's not really necessary - I think Romney is a slimy weasel, whatever he believes in, so in my case the point is moot.

As an example - I think it VERY relevant as to whether a candidate accepts the precepts of the Ten Commandments. Our entire legal system is derived from the Commandments and if a candidate refuses to accept the precepts of the Commandments, I see no possibility that he could effectively enforce our laws.

Now whether a candidate's religion corresponds with mine, or his manner of expressing his faith in the divine is different from mine - I couldn't care less. But this country is based on the concept of inalienable, God-given rights; it cannot be led by one who does not believe in a Supreme Being, IMHO.

I lived in Utah for two ears, while I think that the LDS faith is based on, at best Joseph Smith’s delusions, politically it is very conservative and I would have no problem with an LDS President.

That said, the two LDS candidates running both leave something to be desired.

John Huntsman was a somewhat conservative governor, with no national profile, who decided to veer to the middle when all the new ideas are coming from the conservative side. A non-starter.

Mitt Romney has no core political beliefs other than a vague tilt to the right, but will toss them overboard to get “something” done, or be seen as compassionate. That might work in a liberal state like Massachusetts, but will not work on a national basis. He would be the lesser of two evils if he faced Obama and is the best chance of Obama eking out a victory in 2012.

An echo will not fire up the base and win a turnout based election. A true conservative with ideas will.

That said, any of the Republican candidates is head an shoulders above Obama, who as one of what Thomas Sowell described as “The Annointed”, will continue to believe in the rightness of liberalism despite the social, political and economic carnage it leaves in it’s wake.

Never vote for a Mormon because they're a mind-control cult.

Never vote for a Muslim because they are all terrorists.

Never vote for a Hindu because they believe in reincarnation and actually want there to be more suffering in this life in order to advance further in the next.

Never vote for a Catholic because they will do the bidding of the Vatican.

Never vote for an atheist because they are all sociopathic nihilists.

Never vote for a Jew because they are all agents of the Israeli government.

Never vote for a mainstream protestant because they are all commies.

Never vote for an evangelical or born-again protestant because they want the rapture to happen soon and will do whatever it takes to get the ball rolling.

Never vote for an agnostic because they are unsociable and unwilling to sign-up with any of the other "cults".

all because we disagree with a faith system that is theologically vacant - puhleeze. They are anti Trinitarian, have created a second set of Scriptures, Baptize the dead and consider Christs Atonement to have occurred in the Garden, rather than the Cross - you will not find a Cross in a mormon Temple (ive been in Palmyra’s)….do we need to even bring up Smiths Kinderhook Plates, his reformed egyptian translations and polygamy - get real….hes a false prophet and we all know what the Bible says about that.

dont we?

This notion of many paths is deception and leads many astray

Ya know! I have a terminal illness and many Catholics and Baptist and others on Free Republic are praying for me. I do not have the same opinion about them that I have about Mormon's. So I'm not going to get in a debate with you.
