Vetting the Candidates
Grand Rants ^ | 10-20-11 | Stoutcat

Too many debates, too little substance. I’m with Dennis Miller on this: I think President Obama won Tuesday’s debate. This is a losing strategy for every single one of the Republican candidates.

So in the interest of eliciting more information from the candidates, which can only be helpful in determining who will be the Republican nominee, I humbly suggest that at the next debate, the following questions be asked:

GOV. ROMNEY: We all know about your woes with illegal aliens working for your yard service. Now please tell us if you have any relatives in this country illegally. And if so, are they on welfare or using other taxpayer-funded assistance?

MR. CAIN: Have you ever been at church and heard your long-time pastor say in a sermon, “God damn America”? And if so, did the congregation cheer when he said it?

MR. SANTORUM: Do you know exactly how many states there are in the United States?

REP. BACHMANN: Please explain why Americans celebrate Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day, and how they differ in their purposes. And as a follow-up question, do you have any American relatives who helped liberate Auschwitz?

Those questions would only be asked if the TEA party sponsored and organized a debate, picked the moderator, paid a network for air time and advertising promotion.

Do we have ‘funds for fairness’?

I understand that folks complain about the debates and I think they could be better. However, the real question should be “why conservative news folks not hold debates?” Where is Rush? He could afford to have a debate EASILY. Where is practically any of the Fox News folks? We can’t complain that the liberals are moderating the debates when the conservatives don’t have any interest in holding them. Nobody ever asks those questions. I blame Rush, Hannity, and Glen Beck way more than the liberal moderators.

Okay, the first time I read that, I read, "Do we have funds for fairies?" and thought, "Wha?" Then I read for comprehension, and got it. Funds for fairness? Heck at this point, I'm not even looking for fairness. I'm just hoping for a bit less far leftiness.

Where is practically any of the Fox News folks?

For the past few months, FOX is no better than the rest of them.

Thank you. I stand corrected. However, maybe the problem is that Fox is not picking the most conservatives to moderate (again could be wrong on that too, lol).

This isn’t “vetting the candidates.”

It’s a money and media controlled charade.

These actually aren’t debates at all, but just the press looking for a “gotcha” moment. Everything depends on the candidate’s ability to be good with a sound-bite, and unfortunately the people who are the best at that are often those who have the least substance. But people who aren’t good at it can often yield a negative sound-bite that gives the press a line of attack.

This is a win-win for the press, because while they’ve eliminated somebody who might actually be a threat but can’t come up with a winning sound bite, they can then come back later and reveal the ignorance of the one who actually did win the sound-bite prize.

They didn’t do this with Obama, of course, and they’ll never do it with any Dem. And while people here keep thinking Obama might be challenged by a Dem in the primary, there’s no way this is going to happen. He won’t even have to do the debate charade this time around.
