Herman Cain, 1993: "Thank you very much, Mr. President. Thank you very much for this opportunity. And I would first like to commend you for making health care a National Priority".

Of course, this is another off-topic conversation you are trying to invoke to hijack the thread, because you apparently don't want to talk about Cain's position on gun control.

Which is odd, since I believe he's pretty good on the issue, although granted he has absolutely no record on the subject, he's never fought any legislation, he's never vetoed a bill, and he doesn't appear to have an NRA grade. (That's National Rifle Association, not the other NRA).

Anyway, we won't discuss your lie about Perry because it's not the topic of this thread. Nice try though; I figured someone would throw some false attacks in hoping THAT would derail the thread.

Got anything to say about Herman Cain and gun control?

So a democracy is better than, say, a republic in your opinion?

You mean like Plato's republic or a democratic republic like the United States?

Yes, “conveniently”, 5 freepers showed up to discuss the topic of the article. And we weren’t even pinged to the discussion, we just found it on our own. Pretty clever of us.

Is that a problem in your view, that freepers find threads discussing articles they have an interest in, and they comment on the articles? I realise that a lot of you came here to do other things, like disrupt the thread, attack the person who posted the thread, complain about us talking about the article, and post off-topic items about other candidates hoping to hijack the thread.

But that’s not really normal or accepted behavior.

When a Repub is on with Wolf Blitzhead or some other left cable show he’s being watched mostly by an audience that is far-left to centrist at best.

I discount all those appearances, I don’t even watch them.

That’s the politician dance that has to be danced.

With how much left-wing virtual ballot-box-stuffing that goes on by left-wingers “driving people to the polls” on election day, if a Repub can go on CNN and babble something that will confuse people into voting for them then it’s served it’s purpose, IMHO.

Perhaps that’s not a pure-as-the-driven-snow principles way of getting elected, but if a candidate stood up and publicly stated that they were actually going to eliminate every lobbyist-backed agenda, 80% of the Executive Branch, ALL aid to states, make big business actually compete (and mean it) etc., etc., they would not make it past the first primary. They would sound like they were taking a chainsaw to the favorite spending of 70% of the population.

Once they’re elected, like Obama, they will have to renege on whatever the promised the CNN audience and get the chainsaw going. And go back on the deals they made with government contracting companies, green companies, pharmaceuticals, financials, etc., etc., the list almost never ends, in the first two years. Abolish the EPA, ATF, DOEd, another list. They can simply leave the taxation scheme exactly the way it is. By the time the mid-term election comes along, business will be hiring again at a good clip, people will be starting to get money in their pockets from working, and housing and debt problems start getting fixed.

IMHO, if Herman tells CNN that he’s anti 2nd Amendment, I’d be willing to bet he’s really not. Mittens on the other hand, we have his record to know that he’ll take a ride on the liberal bandwagon any time he’s invited.

That’s really what’s hurt Michele. She sticks to principles no matter who she talks to so she scared the bejeebies out of the left and they kneecapped her early on so there’d be not even a chance of her getting elected. Many conservatives in polling stopped supporting her because they thought she couldn’t handle the pressure. I guess we’re chalking that up to experience and we’re not going to let go of Cain like that. I know I’m not. I know it’s gonna be terrible if we get a career-politician Republican President. The left will convince the centrists that conservative principles don’t work (of course the career-politician won’t be using them, but instead a weakly-negotiated compromise of lower spending increases).

It’s going to be a very tough fight to overtake Obama and the odds are against us. This battle is not only with the Democrat machine and its media but also the Republican establishment. We have very few friends in Washington. But we can overcome; we all must dig deep in our pockets and stand as a solid united team to win this.

This has been covered so many times, how could you have missed it. That quote from Perry was specific to the in-state tuition issue, the 10th amendment and states rights.

>>>>>>So what are conservatives supposed to believe about your candidate Reagan Man?

We conservatives know that Perry doesn't support comprehensive immigration reform or blanket amnesty. And he doesn't support killing illegals with electrified fencing either.

What you reactionaries and nativists believe is a different story altogether.

This whole thing is just stupid. Ignorance and biases make people write really illogical things. For example, everyone who believes that Cain did not know that China had nukes already, raise your lefty hand for a count. Once you have your lefty hands up go to the 2005 article where he writes:

“The U.S. should be less concerned about China’s economic potential than by the military threat it poses. Three Chinese spies were recently indicted in the U.S. for conspiring to steal numerous naval warship technologies. This summer China and Russia participated in a week-long joint military exercise. China’s build up of nuclear, military and space technologies to rival the U.S., and its saber-rattling over Taiwan’s independence, signals a commitment to more red, not green.” -Herman Cain ‘Seeing Green in Red China’ December 3, 2005

Does the word DUHHHHHH mean anything to those of you who have your lefty hand up? Do you think Cain forgot that China had nukes? He most definitely was referring to the nuclear powered aircraft carrier that he was talking about. Just think Navy and his past employment if you need logic.

As Frederick Douglass (a staunch Republican) once stated - Those who believe in ghosts are the ones who see them. If you are looking for an excuse to smear Cain (and anyone for that matter) you will find that excuse even if you come out of it looking like a pretzel.

No excuse for a reader of this blog to be pulling this kind of liberal BS and human crap no matter who you are supporting. Shame on each and every one of you for become liberals with your lefty hand held over your empty head. Think before you pretzelize yourself into a position that makes you look silly and stupid (i.e. a liberal) :-).

I've noticed you aren't discussing the topic of the article either. Is this a new FreeRepublic rule or something, that we aren't supposed to discuss the topic of the articles posted anymore?

Do you have a more recent comment Cain has made about the 2nd amendment? I did a Google search, and this article was on top, and most of the 1st page discussed this interview. Has he actually done a speech on the subject since then, or had an interview?

If not, doesn't this represent the "current" view of a candidate? Or are we really supposed to ignore what candidates said 5 months ago?

Here's a more recent article, although still a bit old, on the topic: September 30, Gun Owners of America: Herman Cain Soars to the Top of the Republican Field: "But where does he stand on the 2nd amendment?

Some of the top contenders (such as Rick Perry and Ron Paul) have pro-gun records to run on. Others (such as Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich) have very mixed or anti-gun records in their haunted past. But Cain has no legislative record. We have no history in public office by which to judge him -- which is why it’s so important that GOA gets an answer back from him on GOA’s Presidential Survey.

Gee, that's exactly what I said in this thread. Hmm, I'm echoing the concern of the GOA from the end of September (about 40 days ago) -- Cain has no record, so we need to look at what he says.

For example, in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer earlier this year, Cain expressed strong support for gun rights: “I support, strongly support, the Second Amendment. I don’t support onerous legislation that’s going to restrict people’s rights in order to be able to protect themselves as guaranteed by the Second Amendment.”

But in answer to a follow-up question asking whether states or local governments should be allowed to impose gun control restrictions, Cain said, “Yes. The answer is yes, that should be a state’s decision.”

Hmm, GOA had the same interpretation of the interview as the article posted here. I guess the GOA are a bunch of liberal RINO country-haters or something. Don't they just KNOW how great Cain is? Well, they think he might be, but they want some actual evidence I guess. Silly GOA.

Cain’s statement about state gun control does raise some important questions though:
  1. Is he aware that the authors of the Fourteenth Amendment wanted to impose the Bill of Rights -- and specifically the Second Amendment -- upon the states?
  2. What does he think about the Supreme Court’s decision in McDonald? Does he agree that states and localities -- subsequent to the Fourteenth Amendment -- are constitutionally barred from banning guns?
  3. And what about concealed carry outside of one’s home state? As President, would Herman Cain sign or veto a bill like H.R. 2900, which provides for concealed carry recognition amongst the states?
Those seem like good questions to me -- wonder why they didn't have the answers from Cain in September of 2011 on those questions? Could it be he hadn't made enough statements yet to give those answers? Or do you think the GOA shouldn't be asking those questions, and we should not be allowed to post them here?

GOA has sent a survey to Herman Cain, but so far, he has not returned a completed questionnaire.

I just did a google search -- I see no links suggesting Cain has returned the survey yet, but there are pages of links referencing GOA asking this question.

Type in "Herman Cain Gun Control" and the CNN interview comes up, with questions about what he really meant.

I know, Cain supporters don't want us to discuss it. Why not? How hard would it be for Cain to issue a simple press release detailing his position on Gun Control? Or maybe he did -- then why is it so hard for his supporters to simply provide a link to it?

I’ve already posted several comments about the article. Have you even said the word “Gun” in this thread about Guns yet? I didn’t see it.

Why do Cain supporters insist people NOT discuss gun control any more on Free Republic?

I’ve actually already expressed MY position on the topic of what government can do. I also posted a link to the GOA, in which they discuss how the 14th amendment applies the 2nd amendment to the states.

What I don’t know is that you are correctly stating Cain’s position. Do you have a link to either a Cain quote or an article where Cain says what you claim he says?
