Romney Campaign Still Sees Perry as Threat
Race 4 2012 ^ | December 2, 2011 | Matt Coulter

Posted on 12/03/2011 3:12:38 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

This is really interesting:

An adviser to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign says in a new book that the campaign was not happy to see former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain’s campaign rocked by allegations of inappropriate behavior dating back to the 1990s.

“We didn’t want [opposition research] on him coming out. We wanted him to stay where he is. He keeps Perry down,” the anonymous aide said, referencing Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

The comments were reported in the new e-book, “The Right Fights Back,” which chronicles the 2012 Republican presidential race so far…

Even when Cain polled high, Romney never made an effort to attack him, likely because he never saw the former businessman as a real threat. On the other hand, Romney clearly sees Perry as a threat to his campaign, as evidenced by his constant attacks on the Texas governor.

Rick Perry does have all the money, organization, and endorsements that Newt Gingrich lacks. And he has been spending a lot of that money in Iowa running positive ads (in preparation for a huge negative ad campaign reportedly to be focused on Romney and Gingrich). Romney still sees something in Perry that makes him wary of the Texan.

dools...in case you missed it, here's a couple more nails in Senor Perry's coffin.

Ricky’s Standup Comedy Routines at the debates are hysterical...worth the price of admission.

At the Heritage Foundation/AEI debate, Ricky staunchly pontificated his CIRCA 1928 positions......with all the proper gestures and inflections......just like he rehearsed. He would then look out over the distinguished audience of intellectuals, expecting applause (just like the other candidates received)....

....but all Ricky heard was dead silence.

The look on his craggy face was priceless..........ROTFL.

=====================================================

Perry's Leno appearance is supposed to help him in Iowa......even his Iowa ads ran on Leno. Perry is supposedly sending "hundreds" of Texans to Iowa b/c Perry told them Iowans can't wait for Texans to tell them how to vote (/snix).

As the eminently quotable TADSLOS posted: Who are these "hundreds" of Perry fans going to Iowa? They are opportunistic Texans, promised a carload to hitch their wagon to Perry's star. They have to go----their money, and future political appointments, are on the line.

Now that he's known as "Mr. Single-digit Perry, they are forced to ride him into oblivion. With Perry and this salivating mob, it isn't about saving America, it's about gaining power and influence, Texas sleaze style.

Amen and amen.

I do remember that. Even I was sorta upset over it, but not because he didn’t pay the taxes but his ridiculous excuse for it. I still like the guy and still believe he would have American interest first. I truly believe he loves the United States of America. And I know many people do who don’t become President, but since he is running, why not give him a chance. As you can see, we can do worse.

That is so lame; is that the best you can come up with? C’mon, even a second-grader can do better than that.

I’ll give in a chance. I voted for him in ‘06 and campaigned with him when I was working for Diana Irey. He’s basically a good guy. But what he did was dumb and dishonest, and he paid the price.

Well, it appears there’s a couple of nails in Cain’s coffin, too, especially the one he just now hammered in!

I have rules about appealing to the Mods. It’s for either racist remarks or anti-semitic remarks or misogynistic remarks.

All the rest is just plain squealing on fellow Freepers. Something Perrymours love to do.

They are low class and they do post drivel but what prompted me to ‘tell on them’ as they put it, was their gleeful back and forth posting to each other with nasty sexual innuendos, and yes, seeing those anywhere else would be very detrimental to Free Republic.

You Perrynistas need to get a sense of humor. I find your Governor amusing. It enrages you because you have no sense of irony and are in blind allegience to your dear leader. I am not.

Yawn, this thread was getting so boring...

....until I saw your allusion to the “Perrymours,” Miss M.

ROTFL——best one, yet.

BTW, the careening Perry campaign is so like the classic movie——”It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

Perry is the hapless Sid Ceasar -—— stuck in the cellar with his ditzy wife-——using desperate means to get himself out.

Perry’s campaign manager must be the screwball Dick Shawn——”not to worry, your baby is coming to rescue you.”

Or maybe Mickey Rooney doing fly-bys with a drunken poll taker (Jim Backus) passed out in the cabin.

I’m with you. Newt’s got great ideas but there’s just something about him that doesn’t sit right. I really wanted Cain to stay in. But now my choices are Perry or Newt, I guess. More enthusiastic about Perry. Still, maybe I’m a glutton for punishment because I always seem to want the one down in the polls.

You are so wrong, MM. We Perry supporters have a great sense of humor. It's you who appears to lack one, or at least a proper and decent one. You mistake your negative and sometimes repulsive comments for humor. You use terms like "Perrynistas", "dear leader" and "Perrymours" not to be funny, but to be hurtful. You don't do it for laughs, you do it for spite.

But getting back to humor, since you find so much of it in demeaning Governor Perry, what do you make of this? Is it funny, or is it hurtful? If the subject of the picture were Perry and not Cain, would your reaction be the same? Your answer would be helpful if we are to be civil to each other in the future. No response will also say alot.

Will someone please explain to me what value there is, for our cause, in mocking and denigrating a candidate because he’s not your preferred? My God, people, the middle east is exploding, Europe’s economy is in free fall, China is ascendent, and Freepers attack Perry because he’s not Newt, or mock Newt because he’s not Bachmann?

Then there are those who gleefully slurp up whatever dirt the Obama Chicago machine spews, as long as it attacks someone you don’t care for? You’re playing right into David Axelrod’s hands! If you don’t think your guy or gal won’t eventually be in their crosshairs, you’re extremely naive.

Let’s concentrate on the prime objective: getting Obama out!

Agreed, Jim. I'm referring to the other Republicans that are getting attacked.

Hopefully the interview with Bret was an eye-opener for many.

And you can’t—indeed don’t—deny the facts. Poor smoothsailing, past and documented history can be a b****, can’t it?

Hence that general is skilful in attack whose opponent does not know what to defend; and he is skilful in defense whose opponent does not know what to attack.

The general who advances without coveting fame and retreats without fearing disgrace, whose only thought is to protect his country and do good service for his sovereign, is the jewel of the kingdom.

If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles.
