President Barack Obama had sought to delay judgment on the approval of the Keystone XL pipeline project for carrying tar sands oil from Alberta in Canada down to the Gulf Coast refineries.
Obama realized that this was a wedge issue for the Republicans. The environmentalists, a key component of the Obama coalition, strongly opposed the pipeline because they feared an environmental disaster and objected to the exploitation of tar sands as a source of energy.
On the other hand, the pipeline would have created tens of thousands of jobs, a particularly sensitive topic in this year's elections. Additionally, Canadian oil did not entail the political risks and the association with unsavory regimes that accompanied the import of oil from the Middle East and Venezuela.
The Republicans sought to outwit Obama by tacking a decision on the pipeline to the Temporary Payroll Tax Cut Continuation Act a tax bill that was critical for the administration. Therefore Obama came down against the pipeline, attempting to finesse the issue by leaving open the possibility that the pipeline might go through using another route - or after it had been submitted to further study (as if the 3 years invested in studies did not suffice).
He blamed Congress, including the Democrat-controlled Senate, for attempting to pressure him into a hasty choice. This is how he explained the decision to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Republicans were quick to pounce on the decision. Mitt Romney accused Obama of pandering to his political base He seems to have confused the national interest with his own interest in pleasing the environmentalists in his political base", while Newt Gingrich sufficed with calling the decision "a stunningly stupid thing to do."

Google “warren buffet keystone pipeline”. Obama doesn’t give a green frog’s sphincter about the environment.
Does amyone think that the word ‘Keystoning’ will join the American lexicon along with ‘jumped the shark’?
Keystoning: an act so utterly stupid as to make a moron look like a genius; (add other definitios here).
my ass...
Taxpayers here or in Canada aren't very amused with government wastage of citizen tax dollars, but for governments, subsidy money is both bottomless and endless.....
Nova Scotia wind tower plant lays off 32 workers
Snips:
The plant has received $70 million in federal and provincial funding.
The Nova Scotia government owns 49 per cent of the business.
Republicans should partner up with the dems who support the pipeline and add an amendment that all materials for the steel pipe and sub structure be American made.
The environmentalists, a key component of the Obama coalition, strongly opposed the pipeline because they feared an environmental disaster
Oil and gas pipelines already cross the Ogallala Aquifer as the map posted by FReeper philman_36 (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2835906/posts?page=11#11) shows:
You’ve just started the meme, nice job!
I saw another thread that had a better pic sometime yesterday or today. I just went looking for something to fill in till I found it.
Keystoning: (1)Making decisions from a viewpoint of extreme narcissism; i.e. acting in one's own self-interest even when it adversely impacts millions of others.
(2)Extreme hypocrisy; performing actions directly opposite one's stated goals; i.e. killing thousands of jobs while claiming to be "focused like a laser beam" on creating them; vowing to revive a struggling economy while acting to further cripple it.
That’s a great map of the oil and gas pipelines in the USA. Does anyone know of a map that shows just the oil pipelines, since that is specifically what the greenies are complaining about?
This is how we should handle it.
Boehner holds a presser and says this will create over 30,000 jobs with a good portion of them union. McConnel joins him in the presser. Hold the presser in front of a union hall.
Then he blames Trunka for killing the pipeline and selling out the union. Hit that hard with it. Then call for a vote.
‘Hit that hard with it.”
I agree. The Republicans have got to quit being so delicate about criticizing Obamba. I caught some video clips of Newt in the last debate, and the crowd went wild when he came out swinging at the press and at Obama. That’s what our candidate and leaders need to do. As we’ve seen before, Obama has come close to losing it when pushed. If taunted and exposed as an idiot several times over a relatively short time period, I think Obama would finally blow his temper in front of the news cameras.
Another idea: Romney should taunt Obama and offer a deal at his next press conference: Romney will publicly release his recent tax returns, if Obama will just, at the same time, release all his academic records and files.

Thanks SunkenCiv. I saw the title and had to add something. I’m sure the title poster had the same idea in miond.
