Draft Jeb Bush [Republican Establishment Going Over the Cliff: NO MORE BUSHES]
National Review ^ | January 24, 2012 | Artur Davis

JANUARY 24 Draft Jeb Bush A charismatic and accomplished governor can save the Republican party.

Artur Davis

In the early months of the election year, a polarizing president with a lackluster approval rating bided his time as the opposition party unraveled. Its nominating fight dissolved into chaos as the establishment front-runner collapsed, and an insurgent with a talent for galvanizing his party’s base surged, despite persistent fears about his electoral appeal beyond the party’s hardcore.

A protracted primary fight ensued, with the insurgent and the party’s resistant establishment eviscerating each other for months; by the time it ran its course, a president who seemed imminently beatable was ahead by double digits. The story ends with that same president winning by an historic margin over a party that rejected its recent past in favor of a dangerously uncertain future.

This is a recounting of the 1972 election season. If it has the feel of a premonition, it’s because Republicans look dangerously on the verge of repeating the demolition derby that so weakened Democrats that year.

Mitt Romney may be a better-constructed front-runner than Ed Muskie, but he is still a flawed contender whose candidacy seems at odds with his party’s mood and whose own half-answers have made his wealth seem shadowy and amoral. Newt Gingrich may be a far better-known quantity than the hapless George McGovern, but he still seems, like McGovern, more suited to the task of revolution than political persuasion. Republicans are, and should be, very worried.

Enter the last dream date that Republicans may have at their disposal. His name is Jeb Bush, and this time, there is a feasibility around the idea that seemed unthinkable months ago.

To be sure, the Jeb scenario will need more instability in order to flourish. The likeliest path...

Daniels was Bush’s Budget guy, Jeb is (obviously) Bush’s brother.

Every alternative we ever hear about is from team Bush. You notice they never have a “Draft George Allen” movement? It’s always a Bush or a member of Team Bush, always.

Worried about Mitt, GOP Establishment? Then get behind a compromise Conservative and dump Mitt. Try looking outside of just the Bush White House, too.

They want Obama to win another term to protect their pitiful Rino socialist wing from conservative control. They lose their spots in GOP leadership and North East elections if Newt brings in a conservative wave.

We will turn back their “progress” which is to help shape the Dem agenda into law. It’s clear what they are up to if they put up another Bush. They know a Bush won’t win after George permitted the left to demonize him for everything the Democrats did.

Artur Davis...didn’t I read something lately that made it sound as if Artur was JUST A BIT too cozy with “Bath-House” Barry?
Something stinks, and it’s not just another Bush.

Think about this one. Every GOP ticket but two since 1960 has either had a Nixon, Dole, or Bush on it.

I think this is no more than scared shite-less RNC types who see that Romney ain’t got the right stuff and are grasping at straws.

JBush likely understands he would have hell to pay to even take part in such a scam.

I do not doubt that when Mitt falls hard in FLA, or shortly thereafter his wifey will tell him its time to quit blowing their money, just like in 08.

Artur Davis is a freaking Alabama democrat. He gave a seconding speech for obama in 2008. I really care what he thinks the gop should do.

Figures he'd show up in N R though.

The similarities may be there vaguely, but if the RINO interference actually does dare to go to MACH 90 to achieve another cram down nominee, it will backfire and either really seal Newt’s deal, or if he should be found bought out, paid out, or in any manner ejected, rejected, or comes up missing, no one will vote Republican at all for ions.

The conclusion is/will be that the Establishement would truly prefer to govern over a fallen nation before they would be seen supporting the people’s nominee and a conservative at that. They are fearful not of Newt but FOR themselves under Newt and the only conservative thing about them is conserving their own power.

Exactly. Funny that the same people who claimed Palin had to make up her mind back in August (Krauthammer, Rove, etc) are now saying Daniels can simply jump right in... in January. LOL!

It’s like 1979-1980 all over again. GHW Bush trashing Reagan and John Anderson going third party. How did that work out for you RINO’s?

No Way. No one named BUSH will be able to win a Presidential election this year. How stupid do these people get?

Look everyone who wanted to, had a chance to toss their hat into the ring. They all chickened out. I’ll go with whoever is left standing and I hope it’s Newt. I think he’s smarter than any of these “dream boats” anyway.
