Rick Santorum surging in new Alabama poll

Rick Santorum is surging with Republican voters in Alabama’s March 13 presidential primary, according to statewide polling results released Friday by Alabama State University.

Santorum, a former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, is riding a national wave that has catapulted him from the back of the field to front-runner. In Alabama, Santorum has seen a significant increase in support over the past four weeks — much of it coming at the expense of GOP rival Newt Gingrich, according to ASU’s poll.

The telephone poll of 470 likely Republican voters showed 18. 9 percent would vote for Gingrich, 18.3 percent for Santorum and 15.2 percent for Mitt Romney. A total of 19.5 percent said they would vote for “some other candidate,” while 28 percent said they were undecided. The poll, conducted weekly in February, was completed on Thursday and the margin of error was 5 percent.

This will change with the new infusion of cash from Adelson. Newt will carry the South. GO NEWT GO!

I’d heard Adelson was chipping in to all the GOP contenders including Mitt, meaning that while Newt might be able to buy more ads, Mitt can buy that much more sh*tstorm too. So the media are thrilled for the extra ad business coming from Adelson dollars, but it doesn’t change the balance of ad power that much.

Are you thinking of that unsourced nonsense from several days ago?

All information that I've seen shows Adelson money only going to Newt.

Remarkable. The media are attacking Santorum viciously, and Mitt’s Mormon audience in Arizona booed at everything he said in the debate.

My son was watching The Daily Show today, and they really went beyond bizarre attacking Rick with distorted snippets from the debate.

Yet he’s still climbing? Not bad.

He can stump on the trail. I guess we should give people credit for seeing through the excrement.

The poll was taken before the debate.

Adelson chipping in to all GOP contenders makes no sense.

His Money is fighting his Money. If so it would have been better for him to save it till the GE.

Anyone care to take a look at the demographics of "Alabama State University"?

I'm sure you will be shocked to find it a "small black college".
You know, the kind that will likely go over the top for Newt…
Polls, sheessh…

From the article: “The poll, conducted weekly in February, was completed on Thursday and the margin of error was 5 percent”. Conducted weekly in February......the debate was Wednesday night. The poll is already irrelevant.

With the steam Santorum has picked up, and the results already under his belt - imagine what he could do with the kind of funding Romney and Newt have received. He is the only one without a “SuperPAC” as best as I can tell... and when you consider that both Newt and Romney have their big guns turned on Rick - and he still seems to be weathering the attacks relatively well...

Grasp at enough straws and all you need is a lot of mud to make bricks.....

The situation is a fog to me. If you have the latest lowdown and Adelson is backing solely Newt, then things are looking sunnier in America’s forecast.

That’s better than trying to make bricks without the straws.

Santorum is the highest profile “values” candidate, if the order of his priorities are a little odd (I frankly don’t believe that porn is the biggest values plague in the USA today). Newt is living clean now, but did not use to, and stresses values less than Santorum does. I think Santorum is still a bit green and would make a better presidential candidate in, say, 2020, while Newt is ready now. Of course if it boiled down to Santorum vs. Obama I would vote for Santorum.
