Clinton Issues Warnings on Afghanistan, Syria By Elise Labott, CNN Foreign Affairs Reporter
RABAT, Morocco (CNN) - Criticism of President Barack Obama's apology for the burning of Qurans in Afghanistanis not helpful, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Sunday in a wide-ranging interview with CNN.
"I find it somewhat troubling that our politics would enflame such a dangerous situation in Afghanistan," Clinton said of the complaints by Republican presidential candidates and some experts about Obama's apology.
Obama apologized Thursday in a letter to Afghan President Hamid Karzai for the burning of Qurans, which he called "inadvertent" and an "error."
"It was the right thing to do to have our president on record as saying this was not intentional, we deeply regret it," Clinton said.
At least four American troops have been killed in apparent revenge attacks in the past week, and dozens of Afghans have been killed or wounded in protests about the incident.
"We are hoping that voices inside Afghanistan will join that of President Karzai and others in speaking out to try to calm the situation," Clinton said. "It is out of hand and it needs to stop."
Clinton also said diplomatic efforts were under way to peel away support from Syria's President Bashar al-Assad.
"We have a lot of contacts, as do other countries - a lot of sources within the Syrian government and the business community and minority communities - and our message is the same to all of them: 'You cannot continue to support this illegitimate regime because it is going to fall,'" she said.
But she said the Syrian National Council was not yet the kind of united opposition movement that toppled Moammar Gadhafi with international help in Libya last year.

I read that on Friday some military guy went TO A MOSQUE in, I think, Virginia to apologize ONCE AGAIN to the mussies. They mean to KILL US folks - what is it they don’t understand?
Obama was quoted as saying something like this: - “if things get tough I will side with the Muslims.” Well we are looking at this right now.
This regime is treasonous, IMHO. So, what are the GOP doing? Nothing except for NEWT. Is everyone sleeping here? Where is the good old Yankee Spirit, the American Spirit? Defend ourselves, for cryin out loud. These murders in Afghan are outrageous and all Clinton/Obama can come up with is “troubling” and “I’m sorry”????

Karzai needs to be reminded that he owes everything he is to the United States of America and that his benefactors expect results.
Upon his defeat in November, Obama and every member of his cabinet should be put on trial. Scratch any of them and you will find a crook, so this should be easy. Otherwise, we will have these Leftists salting the Capitol with their thwarted agenda items before the next President is sworn in. They are lawbreakers at heart and will certainly do everything possible to thwart the will of the voters.
Afghanistan has a dreadful history dominated by tribal (Islamic) leaders who have been & still are anti-modernization. They want Islam to dominate.
Even their monarch back in the 70s had massive trouble with these tribal leaders. So, did the Soviets, and we are too. We should’ve taken that into account when embarking on so-called ‘nation-building’ adventures.
Kabul may be a slightly different story, safer, etc.. but Kabul is not all or most of Afghanistan.
Karzai has not been a popular figure since around 2007. I heard that from 4 or 5 different people who visited, spent time there and should know.
Karzai is hanging on by a very thin thread. That’s partly why he is upping the rhetoric about Quran burning, and shifting back and forth on wanting to negotiate w/ the Taliban. If it weren’t for US and NATO troops, he couldn’t possibly hang on. I reckon he will be eventually killed or will have to escape. Especially once NATO pulls out.
Now, now don't you understand that they don't REALLY mean what they say. Or at least that's what Oliver Stone's son said just a few days ago after he converted to Islam.... sigh...
