Testing the First Amendment: Is Obama pushing martial law?
Across the Back Fence ^ | 03/18/2012 | Todd Fitchette

The fact that this has gone viral since it was released, and that those who’ve commented on it all believe this is nothing less than martial law under a more politically-correct name, is in itself significant reason to appropriately react. Could this be the beginning of martial law in America? Unless the President is clairvoyant and he’s doing this in reaction to some future event that only he sees in his mind’s eye — an event some argue he’s hoping to instigate — the Constitutional crisis this raises is frightening.

"Do you want to live under socialism?"

Do you really think that the US will ever move more left than Western Europe? Technically Western Europe is not socialist because the means of production is mostly privately held.

Do you think that somehow in the US the powers that be are going to try to turn all of the corporations into government agencies? Do you think they even want to?

Socialism is not the real enemy. The real enemy is, and has always been, oligarchy. The good news about the oligarchy here in the US is that it is not completely based on bloodlines: any one of us, theoretically, can become one of the oligarchs. Also, there seems to be more turnover among our oligarchs than in such times/places as Rome, various Holy Roman Empires, various European Kingdoms/Empires, Nazi Germany, Tzarist Russia, Communist Russia, Putin's Russia, Communist China, Cuba, Ho Chi Minh's Vietnam, Pol Pot's Cambodia, Venezuela, etc.

Do you really think that Stalin or Lenin really believed in Communism? Or that Mao did? They were scumbag crony capitalists who were just more brutal in maintaining their monopolies than Government Electric, Government Motors, or Government Sachs.

Certainly the governments of Western Europe, and our own US government, subject our corporations to a myriad of taxes and regulations. Certainly this limits what they can do. But do they respond by ousting the government? No. They just bribe officials to make the taxes and regulations a bit less onerous for them, and a bit more onerous for their competition.

I work for a major corporation which most Americans would consider to be a hotbed of right-wing anti-Socialism. And yet our leaders are proud of their affirmative action programs, their LGBT seal-of-approval, their environmental advocacy, etc.

My company doesn't want the US government to get smaller. They need all those government contracts to survive. They thrilled at the creation of the Dept. of Homeland Security. They love the fact that the US government is going to need all sorts of new technology to keep track of enemies abroad and of our own citizens at home.

Like all good capitalists, they want to privatize the profits and socialize the costs.

Their shareholders agree.

As do their knowing or ideologically brainwashed shills on FR.

Between your understanding of freepers, who you accused of being for a Marxist dictatorship, and reality is way off too, bud. Screw you.

"there is no imminent threat."

I agree, but then you and I seem to be in the minority here on FR.

I am continuously reminded here on FR that the Muslim threat is ever-present. They will never stop in their hopes of creating a worldwide Caliphate under Sharia Law. A world where all Christians will be reduced to dhimmi-tude.

So obviously it's a good thing that Obama renewed this EO ... isn't it?

Reading skills. Sense of humor. Sense of history.

All good things, and highly recommended.

Congress has been reduced to a rubber-stamp for Obama. Check your Congressman’s .gov website. Very few have made any noise at all about Dear Leader. My Tea Party rep Steve Southerland, who beat a seven term rat named Allen Boyd with my help, hasn't complained at all about our slide into tyranny.

Reps and Senators sit back and enjoy their perks as they slough off lawmaking to Obama, his secretaries and czars. Why offer resistance? It will only anger some constituents and all of the local media.

Obama is a direct assault on every American. Where are the articles of impeachment?

A Marxist oligarchy?

Really?

That's a new one.

I can understand oligarchs like Stalin and Mao who presented themselves as Marxists/Communists as a way of getting the people to accept their horrible fates.

But oligarchs who actually believe in Marxism when Marxism makes the bold claim that oligarchies will fade away? Are we still in the "dictatorship of the proletariat" phase? But wasn't that Lenin's cute addition to Marxist theory? And didn't that whole "dictatorship of the proletariat" thing go bust a few years back?

Obama is an oligarch plain and simple. No need for him to believe in Marxist theory when he's sipping Pina Colada's poolside in Hawaii, or teeing up a golf ball at Congressional.

Your logic seems to be somewhat lacking. My argument is that there is no reason to “renew”, meaning in this case, expand overbearing government intrusion on our lives and decisions, let alone personal property.
Do you convince many people by agreeing with them and then trying to tell them they agree with you?

Thanks for reinforcing my point. And I said Marxist “dominated”.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/03/16/executive-order-national-defense-resources-preparedness

Sec. 308. Government-Owned Equipment. The head of each agency engaged in procurement for the national defense is delegated the authority of the President under section 303(e) of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2093(e), to:

(a) procure and install additional equipment, facilities, processes, or improvements to plants, factories, and other industrial facilities owned by the Federal Government and to procure and install Government owned equipment in plants, factories, or other industrial facilities owned by private persons;

(b) provide for the modification or expansion of privately owned facilities, including the modification or improvement of production processes, when taking actions under sections 301, 302, or 303 of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2091, 2092, 2093; and

(c) sell or otherwise transfer equipment owned by the Federal Government and installed under section 303(e) of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2093(e), to the owners of such plants, factories, or other industrial facilities.

This is the nazification of the industrial base. Obama can take over any business anytime for anyreason. Goodbye private property.

Sec. 502. Consultants. The head of each agency otherwise delegated functions under this order is delegated the authority of the President under sections 710(b) and (c) of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2160(b), (c), to employ persons of outstanding experience and ability without compensation and to employ experts, consultants, or organizations. The authority delegated by this section may not be redelegated.

Even the Nazis paid their experts. What is wrong with this pack of thieves?

I knew it when he was elected. Obama is going to go all Hugo Chavez on us.

He lost congress and isn’t likely to get it back and he’s likely to lose the upcoming election.
BUT*** Obama is on an Alinski-ite mission. he will find an excuse to invoke this order and suspend the constitution.

I’m betting his excuse will be an attack on Iran.

Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Ben Franklin warned us of this over 200 years ago.
