GEORGE ZIMMERMAN AND TRAYVON MARTIN: WHAT WE DON’T KNOW
Backwoods Home Magazine ^ | March 23, 2012 | Massad Ayoob

Posted on 03/24/2012 8:47:14 AM PDT by Travis McGee

(Snip) The death weapon was a Kel-Tec PF9 semiautomatic 9mm pistol. It has been reported that the gun was recovered with a full magazine and that only the chambered round had been fired. This is a condition we associate with something preventing the gun from cycling a fresh round from the magazine into the chamber after the shot was discharged. One thing that can cause that is another man’s hand wrapped around the pistol, retarding its slide mechanism. This would indicate, as could certain gunshot residue patterns or cuts in certain places if found on Trayvon Martin’s hand(s), that a struggle for a gun was taking place when the fatal shot was fired. This would clearly change the shape of the case. But – WE DON’T KNOW YET. Both men, according to initial reports, were “squeaky clean” in terms of their background. We now know, meh, not so much. There were allegations of domestic abuse against Zimmerman, and a conviction for resisting arrest, in his past. Young Mr. Martin was in the complex in the first place so his dad could straighten him out after being kicked out of school for a week…for what, we don’t know. Pundits who don’t all seem to understand the concept are tying this shooting in to Florida’s Stand Your Ground law much more than they should. There is conflicting evidence/testimony as to whether Martin approached Zimmerman or vice versa in the penultimate moments before the physical fight that led to the fatal shot. There is, in short, not yet enough information for any of us outside the investigation to formulate a solid opinion.

Oh, bovine scat. That’s just crap.

This “two guys should just duke it out with their fists” stuff is pure nonsense. People get maimed for life from fistfights all the time. Personally, I’m not interested, will avoid a fistfight at every opportunity, and if assaulted will endeavor to end the assault by any means appropriate and available.

Zimmerman was looking to help stop the high level of crime in his neighborhood.

Probably time to BLOAT some more, too.

I will suggest a scenario. It may be true but of course there is no way to tell right now. I will say I have seen this exact same thing happen.

Zimmerman sees Martin acting suspiciously. They eye each other. Zimmerman makes some attempt to investigate then eventually loses sight of him and relaxes.

Eventually Zimmerman goes about his business. Suddenly from absolutely nowhere he is attacked from behind, knocked down and starts to take a vicious beating.

That is as far as the scenario goes.

That might be what happened. Hopefully a truthful version will be put to the Grand Jury, and they will believe it, and act accordingly.

But in this racially-charged atmosphere, I think Holder will put his thumb on the scale, hard.

This whole thing pisses me off. Once again, just because I’m white, and a republican, I am somehow made to be the fall guy because some guy somewhere shot a black person.

That's because the ONLY unprotected class in America are white, heterosexual, conservative males. Just about every other class/category of people in America are a protected "minority" - except us.

Be sure to thank your congresscritter for this singular honor!

(Yes, that last line was sarcasm!)

It's unprotected, because we allow it to be.

This scenario is also why most who carry have a round chambered. He may have drawn after being attacked, and not have been able to rack a round in.

Correct. However, to be fair, I don’t think FreeAtlanta “carries”. I think FreeAtlanta has them at home for home defense, with children present. I support FreeAtlanta’s decision, based upon a threat assessment, to go unchambered in the home. Not that they need my permission lol.

Thanks again 101,

I carry occasionally. I admit that I don’t like it. What I have is really too big and uncomfortable. I would love to get a .380 someday. When I had my shop, a couple of great Police Detectives who visited daily, actually recommended I get a .380 for my back “wallet” pocket and put a 40 cal or 9mm on a dowel rod under the register.

They really were concerned about my location and I appreciated their advice and friendship. They are cool guys who had spent time in Iraq. One loved to say how good my coffee is and complain that McDonald’s coffee is the worse he has ever had and he has had coffee made with water from the Euphrates with dead bodies floating in it.

Mexican/Spanish vs blacks will take all of Obama’s race relations double talk to cover over this incident. The foolish in fools has certainly been exposed by the pundits.

Yep. Besides, SOMEBODY has to be the people we can blame everything on and it boils down to white, heterosexual, conservative males.

It's Congress' way of making us feel special, doncha know!

if it's not chambered, then you are carrying around nothing more than a really expansive club...

1). If he had a full clip, then he was walking around with a chambered round. That is a dangerous thing to do and is greatly discouraged.

You're describing what many call "Israeli Carry" condition. Not a practical mode of carry as possibly evidenced by this incident.

If Zimmerman was being attacked and was on the ground, defending against blows, how in the heck is he going to rack the slide and chamber a round?

If you carry, wear a secure holster that guards the trigger. If you present the sidearm, it had better be ready to go "BANG!" if you pull the trigger.

2). If he was inexperienced enough to walk around with a chambered round, then maybe he also didn't take good care of his sidearm and it just didn't work and re-chamber.

Now you are speculating on far reaching theories with virtually zero evidence. There has been no evidence presented on the condition of the firearm other than what we read in this article and other media sources. The round in the chamber was fired and it was loaded with a full magazine. I'm not going to assume anything other than what we know. To do anything else is as bad as those casting wild accusations against Zimmerman.

If he hadn’t had the round chambered, it would have been possible that Zimmerman would be the dead one.

I suspected what you meant but since I DO know the difference I wasn’t sure. I don’t mean to bust your chops too bad but like someone else pointed out there is a lot of bad information out there. Some of it is put out there deliberately by the MSM to make gun owners look bad and to make guns scarier. Some of it is put out by Hollyweird to also support the leftist agenda, or for “effect”, or simply becaue everyone involved with making a film is ignorant of how guns differ and work. As gun owners who want to remain gun owners I think all of us need to have our facts straight and correct those who don’t. Most of the time facts, logic, and reason are completely incomprehensible to an anti-gun liberal but it doesn’t hurt to try.

Yep, and none of us would have heard peep one on the “routine” incident.

The business of “don’t keep a round chambered” is something left over from the time when many handguns were of poor quality and could easily fire when dropped. If you carry a modern, quality handgun and don’t want to defeat (or at least handicap) the purpose of carrying, keep a round chambered. And of course get good training and conduct realistic practice routinely. IMHO.

There are many different designs. I have a revolver that loads using clips, and has no safety except the long and relatively heavy trigger. The keltec in question uses a magazine.

I am not so sure that Z was looking for a fight. If he had lost track of the kid, and was on the way back to his car, probably not.

The police probably have looked at the marks of people walking around and footprints in the dew, but have not yet made the results public. A little patience is required.

This story seems to be shaping up as it was told in the first place. The one thing about it: When you’re dead, you’re dead. The racist media cannot bring you back. The racist crowds cannot bring you back. The justice system cannot bring you back. You’re dead. Screwing around in these types of situtations, no matter how right or wrong, can be a life or death matter. Don’t screw around.
