Common sense: Why Romney will not maximize white conservative, evangelical turnout and lose to Obama
March 25, 2012 | techno

Posted on 03/25/2012 12:56:59 PM PDT by techno

10 common sense reasons based on my knowledge of human perception, human relationships and leadership and motivational skills why I believe Mitt Romney will NOT maximize conservative, evangelical turnout and lose to Obama:

1)Lack of AFFINITY for Mitt Romney among voters. For those in Rio Linda, it means a lack of identification or a NATURAL LIKING or a lack of CONNECTION between people. Romney is simply not a lot of people's cup of tea demographically or culturally, let alone politically.

2)Extreme anger and indignation at Romney's carpet-bombing tactics against both Gingrich and Santorum. Many conservatives will be willing to forgive and forget and bury the hatchet at the convention, but not everyone.

3)Buying into Santorum's argument (which I agree with) there is "little difference between Tweedledum and Tweedledee." (Romney and Obama)

4)Mitt Romney is NOT a likable or sympathetic character as McCain or Dole were as war veterans who had been physically maimed. Some conservatives voted for McCain and Dole as payback for the service to their country. Romney will NOT pick up these voters.

5) Religious reasons--polls over the years have consistently shown there is a segment of the evangelical population who in their heart of hearts tell pollsters they cannot or will not vote for Romney, a Mormon.

6)Mitt Romney is destined to only command 40% of the primary vote. There will be a widespread feeling among conservative and evangelicals that he is "a pretender to the throne" and that he doesn't deserve my vote.

7)Etch a Sketch will come back to haunt and define Romney. Some voters will NOT vote for a candidate they don't TRUST implicitly. Like McCain with illegal immigration, Romney with Romneycare will cause more passionate, ideological voters to opt not to vote at all.

8)The Left and media will make Romney into a repugnant character. For those in Rio Linda, repugnant is defined as somebody or something that is offensive and COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE or revolting. Personally, I am already there on Romney; it won't take much to convince other conservatives of that perception as well.

9)Not all conservatives and evangelicals are Republicans. A good number are INDEPENDENT voters and have no connection with Romney whatsoever which include white working class conservatives and mid-western and southern evangelicals.

10)Mitt Romney is NOT talented enough a politician or charismatic enough to maximize white conservative, evangelical turnout. The narrative "vote for me because you hate Obama more than you hate me" will NOT work on everybody.

Imho there are very few ways for Obama to win reelection.

Running against Romney is the easiest one of those ways.

I give 0bama 50-50.

I'd say 60-40 against Millard.

Reverse that for anyone else.

Millard can't unify the base.

When the left attacks his religion in 30 second sound bytes, those talking points will be the most many people have ever heard about Mormonism. They will accept the attack as truth.

And we won't be able to convince them otherwise, because when they attack things like blacks, indians and people of color like my son being considered cursed people through the 70's, it will be the truth.

And if people turn around and state "Oh, that's changed" the argument will come, "How can it change? Wasn't this dictated through magic seeing stones from the original lost texts that haven't been seen since the book or Mormon was written?"

Look, the Mormons I know are nice people, and I'll defend their right to believe and pursue happiness. However when it gets to the content and text of their faith in a legitimate debate, that's not my fight.

And it will become one during the election. Count on it.

This will not end well. Can you imagine if we have this crap with Trayvon Martin, even when there's a witness that says he was the attacker, imagine how would one defend institutionalized discrimination based on color?

Forget that...it even pisses me off.

Forget the fact that the only true measure we have of romney in a governing position is that he is a liberal sellout who embraces the left like a sweaty lover (end of sentence censored.)

I'm just laying out the truth here. If he wins the nomination, Mitt's going to get creamed and there's nothing we can do to stop it.

“Imho there are very few ways for Obama to win reelection.”

I disagree. If mitt is the nominee, you might as well vote 3rd party. There is no way mitt can win... You can take that to the bank. Mitt will be the spoiler for the third party candidate.

You get no argument from me. I think this country, for the most part, has been so dumbed down, so complacent, so ungreatful and simply disgraceful, that it’s better that it go down. When the stuff does hit the fan, there is going to be very little sympathy from me. I just feel sorry for the little innocent children.

Absolutely...the freedom we grew up with and knew and loved? Will they ever know the same thing in their lives?

Sorry, was ranting, not lecturing. Thanks for listening - cheers!

Too many Republican voters have voted in the primaries for Romney, EVEN THOUGH THEY DON’T LIKE HIS POLITICS, because they THINK he can beat Obama.

Too bad they don’t remember what happened to the last liberal Republican - John McCain.

Obama isn’t going to be maximizing his base either. The progressives think he is a sellout to the banks (true) and the independents now think he is a racist radical activist (true). Broken Glass Democrats will still vote for him, but he’s facing a defection rate of at least 20%.

Running against Santorum and Gingrich are two other ones.

It is odd, conservatives have trashed everyone other than Romney allowing Romney to win. Instead of supporting the ABR who gets the most votes, we trash them. Now we say Romney can’t win and we ain’t voting for him and we are going to insure he doesn’t win.

That is called cutting off your nose to spite your face.
