The New Counter-Culture
5/17/2012 | Self

It has become increasingly apparent that our Culture has become leftist. With Environmentalists, Unionists, Big-Government supporters, bias media, teachers, and liberal Hollywood it has become clear that the original Counter Culture of the 60s has won the battle over the minds of Americans. CNN and NYT are preaching to their dwindling fan base that the Occupy Movement is the New Counter-Culture in America.

Occupiers resemble the 60s Counter-Culture in a number of ways. Both movements believed that government should end it's overseas wars, wanted sexuality to be more open, and believed that fat cat businessmen should pay their “fair” share. The two movements also mirror each other in their tactics on spreading their message through any means necessary (such as rape, rioting, closing ports, molesting, vandalizing, and many other techniques that any sane person with a conscience would be offended in partaking.) Each movement even has the same type of members. Both have their student body grunts that gave their movement their size, both movements have their rioters, and both groups have their weathermen who commit acts of terror to scare their opponents into giving in to their demands. However, if our culture has indeed changed into following the redirect of the 60s counter-culture and has become leftist in ideals then the occupiers are just the Culture. So who can claim the title of Counter-Culture now?

Right-wing small government individualists have now become the Counter-Culture in America. Anyone who says that the government cannot continue spending like an unrestricted gambler is now challenging the culture America has claimed. These patriots will never label themselves as the counter-culture (the closest title they may call themselves is Revivalists) because of the bitter taste the 60s Counter-Culture left in conservatives hearts and minds. These patriots look nothing like the radicals who tainted our country. They work hard and use capitalism to their advantage, how could they be the new Counter-Culture? The new Counter-Culture resembles the first Counter-Culture in America, the Revolutionaries.

Just like the Revolutionaries, The new Counter-Culture thrives to defy an overpowering government and they also thrive on bringing choice and freedom back to the hands of the people. Both movements believe in the natural flaws of mankind and believe that human nature can be used to counteract the dangers human nature can bring upon us. The movement's structure is very similar to the Originals. These movements are consisting of working class people with education who want to stop having their wealth stripped from them from their oppressive government, both include enlightened thinkers who publicly challenge the narrative and expose the society for what it is (Thomas Paine and Andrew Breitbart), and both use a system of morality, structure, and discipline to make the changes they seek to obtain.

The new Counter-Culture's message is simple: shrink the size of government, follow founder's intent, and reduce the deficit. Much like the revolutionaries, the new Counter-Culture faces an up-hill battle that will not be easily won. However, the revolutionaries defied all odds and achieved their goals and the new Counter-Culture can also win the battle as long as they stay vigilant, stay aggressive, and stay optimistic. Freedom works and will become the ultimate demise of the leftist culture, these patriots have just become the catalyst to it's fall.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery,” - Galatians 5:1

Boycott Hollywood and deny them their funds. Drop CATV and use only the Internet.

The "new counterculture" isn't really new. It got started, arguably, in the early 1950's when groups like the ISI formed, and gathered steam in the 1960's with the appearance of Young Americans for Freedom, the Goldwater movement, the American Conservative Union, etc.

Very true but it seems like it has finally started its big fight. They argued a lot for conservative social ideas but we haven't truly started considered cutting wasteful spending and reducing the deficit until recently. Even Raegan increased spending and added a deficit to the country. I think all the groups have finally realized its now or never.

Want I find ironic was that it was government itself the original ‘’counter-culture’’ movement was against.

The majority of Americans are still conservative. The left wants to make yo think America is anti right.

I like a what of you said. The problem we really face though is internal. The right is now divided three ways:

1)Those who are right wing, but not for smaller government by any stretch of the imagination. Just like the left they oppose they want to use government and all of it's power to make their neighbors behave as though they believe they should be behave.

2)Those on the right who take the individualist thing too far. See entry at Ron Paul who's so caught up in the ideology of national sovereignty that he'd let nations like Iran build nuclear weapons in the name of same, without regard to the threat that it pose to our own nation.

3)Those few left who still understand the concept of balance. That yes, in theory a sovereign nation might have the theoretical right to build nuclear weapons, but that ideology is a secondary consideration to survival. Those who understand that liberty by definition includes the freedom to be wrong, to make bad choices, suffer the repercussions and learn from the consequences if there are any.

IMHO, not enough people left belong to group 3.

I beg to differ. As I’ve said repeatedly, the majority of Americans are apolitical. They’ll change the subject to the sports team of their fancy or the sitcom of the moment at the very mention of politics. Few could summarize the Bill of Rights, fewer yet could even name their congressman.

...”it has become clear that the original Counter Culture of the 60s has won the battle over the minds of Americans.”

WRONG! The so-called “original Counter Culture of the 60s” went out with hard drugs, Disco and AIDS. The ‘70’s were more counter to mainstream American culture than were the ‘60’s. However, the children of those who lived it were ripe enough for the picking as baby boomers grew more and more nostalgic for their glory days. This “counter culture” is strictly commercial and is nothing but recycled trash...far from original.

Really, all we have here are quality issues. It’s all about quality. Quality of birth, life and death, quality of thought, quality of meaning, quality of information, quality of perception, quality of leadership, quality of citizenship/citizenry, quality of liberty and freedom, quality of choice, quality of culture, etc. We can do so much better but liberals work hard to institute obstacles to quality and is often by any means necessary.

It’s a good word to use when trying to solve the world’s problems. It’s an easy concept to grasp.

Quality- It’s not just for widgets anymore!

What they feel and what they say are two different things.

VERY happily counter-culture since September 12, 1973

Romans 12:2 Amplified Bible

2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].
