The Politics of ‘free stuff’ and the 45% who pay no federal income taxes
my rant | 7/18/12 | sickoflibs

Posted on 07/18/2012 10:47:51 AM PDT by sickoflibs

Obama and his fellow Democrats grow louder and more frequent for the top 5% (really the top 20%) who pay most of the federal taxes to ‘pay their fair share’ meaning even more taxes.

But what about the 45 percent or so of our fellow citizens and legal residents who pay zero federal income taxes which that money is dedicated to pay for everything it does and that it gives away except retirement entitlements?

With the government running the enormous deficits it is and candidates especially Dems promising more and more ‘free stuff’ to voters as Romney put it, this 45% is an important number. It represents the group that Dems will always target with promises of more ‘free stuff’.

Dems have learned from the 1970s to not tell those 45% voters that they are freeloaders when telling them how much they are giving them. They learned that phrasing it that way can backfire on them. So instead they blurr the tax lines by telling those 45% that they pay local taxes and federal entitlement taxes (SS and Medicare payroll taxes) so they are not freeloading by getting more and more ‘free stuff’ from the Feds. They also are careful to call the entitlement taxes simply payroll taxes to make it look like they are doing their ‘fair share’ in funding the federal government, at the same time those specific entitlement taxes entitle them to expensive retirement benefits: social security and Medicare which themselves are adding to the federal deficit, and so those ‘payroll’ taxes don’t even FULLY fund what they are dedicated to let alone fund the rest of the federal government.

There is a another huge flaw in this argument Dems use; that flaw being that if those elected to federal office charge you zero federal taxes (ignoring fed gas taxes and entitlement taxes) to fund the government to do everything while they are promising you more and freer stuff too, then it doesn't really matter what your local sales taxes are. You elect a whole different set of representatives to the local level to give you a different set of benefits and services than the federal government does.

If I was to pay a painter to paint my house $500 then I can’t tell the plumber he must fix my plumbing for free because I paid ‘my fair share’ to the painter. But this is the idiotic argument that Dems are using. They say if the Feds charge me $1000 in taxes (made up example numbers) and they borrow another $1000 too then the 45% freeloaders deserve to get $300 of that money (in cash or services) by claiming that it is not a free because they pay $100 to their county for their kid’s school. Someone should explain to them that the taxes they pay their county don’t go to the Federal government.

So does their (Dems) argument presented here have to make any logical sense at all? Well of course not! All it has to do is appeal to majority of those 45% who are getting the resulting ‘free stuff’ and to motivate them to vote for more. And we know that with people even the thinnest of arguments will sell to those getting 'free stuff;

No taxation without representation? Yup...great idea. But that doesn't go far enough. This nation should also adopt a policy of:

NO REPRESENTATION WITHOUT TAXATION

More class envy in the raw.

The federal personal income tax was promised to never touch more than the top 1% or 2% of income earners.

The promise was made by Republicans.

Obviously the promise wasn't kept ~ and that means that today, with 53% of the income earners being taxed for federal personal income tax it has been an abject failure.

I'd target the federal personal income tax as a major federal program that's failed, and then eliminate it.

Leftwingtards love that tax though, and even now scheme to extend its grasp.

It is bad business for families earning a decent living to pay no federal income tax....even worse if they get money PAID to them via EITC. They have no skin in the game, and become addicted to handouts. Soaking the rich never has worked in the long run, as wealth can get “pissed off” and simply pack up and leave.

Just more class envy. The poor are like everybody else. They bleed. They die. They are less easily bought off than the rich.

The numbers are actually worse. About 50% of WORKING Americans pay federal income taxes. But only 58% of adult Americans work. So it seems to me that only about 29% of all adult Americans actually work and pay federal income taxes. 71% pay nothing but are still able to vote and help direct more resources towards themselves.

And you wonder why all this seems like an uphill battle?

I have a serious question. What demographic group(s) makes up the 45% of the folks who don’t pay taxes? Thanks in advance.

Rather than worry about who makes up the 45%, how about everyone demand JOBS for a change.

In America.

Stop sending jobs to China. Stop it.

It's not so much the people that pay zero federal tax that bothers me, as the folks who pay zero federal tax AND get $60 billion back in refunds:

right from Uncle Sugar's mouth.....

The EITC is a refundable tax credit. This means you may get money back, even if you have no tax withheld. Nationwide last year, almost 26.8 million eligible individuals and families received over $59.5 billion total in EITC.

Generally, the EITC has no effect on welfare benefits. In most cases, EITC payments will not be used to determine eligibility for Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), supplemental nutrition assistance program (food stamps), low-income housing or most Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) payments. Though unemployment benefits are not earned income, they are taxable and thus affect the amount of EITC you can receive.

$464 with no qualifying children

$3,094 with one qualifying child

$5,112 with two qualifying children

$5,751 with three or more qualifying children

Dems have a way of using twisted and self-serving logic, sick - you point that up nicely. Thanks for the ping ( and the 'organized thoughts...)
