Like most Conservatives, I wanted US Congressman Todd Akin to step out of the US Senate race for Missouri when he abhorrently used the "L" word ("legitimate") about the act of rape. At the time Akin had a nine-point lead over one of the most incompetent Senators in the country, Claire McCaskill. I'm skipping over the details of Akin refusing to bow out, and the shunning given him by the GOP. My opinion: IF Akin is the candidate, we MUST get onboard and support him.
I understand that "Independents" are thought to rule the day, but if Independents want smaller government, lower taxes and less spending, why would they shift to McCaskill?
It's the same thing as saying:
I want to fix America's financial crisis and would have voted for Aiken for that reason, but now that I know he believes a child of rape should not be aborted, I will vote for McCaskill and let our economic freedom go to hell. I will support continuing Democrat-control of CongressAbortion is legal in this country and that is not going to change. Most doctors and hospitals will immediately give a rape victim the "morning after pill," if wanted, and all the other longstanding procedures are available to allow a woman to do what she thinks is right - so why would a once-Akin-supporter give up the economy and a chance to gain control of the Senate for something that will change nothing about our economic freedom?
Let's look at some of Akin's voting record:
He proposed H.R. 6000 to validate the immigration status of aliens receiving federal benefits, voted for the Federal Reserve Transparency Act (passed House), for the repeal of Obamacare (passed), for the Domestic Energy and Jobs Act (passed), against Project Labor Agreements (passed), for Ryan Budget (passed), for returning water to California's Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley Act - to heck with the Delta Smelt act (passed), for the development of Shale Oil Resources (passed), for prohibiting Insider Trading by Government Officials (passed), for amending the budget baseline (passed), against the President's authority to raise the debt limit (passed), for limiting regulation on Farm Dust (passed), for Congressional approval of regulations (passed).
On the slim chance that some of these may or did make it to the Senate floor, do you think McCaskill would support any one of them? She will not. I don't agree with a few of Akins votes, but I agree with all of the above and anyone wanting smaller government and U.S. sovereignty should agree with them as well, and reward Aikin for them, because most are lying in a drawer somewhere in the Senate where Claire McCaskill, agreeing with Harry Reid, thinks it is just swell not to bring them up for a vote and allow The People to exercise their full power through their elected officials.
A vote for Claire McCaskill is a vote for Obama's sponsored infanticide. As an Illinois State Senator, BO was the only legislator to vote NOT to give life saving measures to an aborted child born alive. A vote for Claire McCaskill is a vote for EPA regulations, illegal Presidential Executive Orders and Signing Statements. A vote for Claire McCaskill is a vote for continual downgrades and dumbing-down of education, the DREAM Act and no American energy independence.
Why would a true small government voter abandon Akin at a time when our future hangs on making smart, Constitutional decisions?
If the GOP can get Akin out and come up with a candidate that has a chance of beating McCaskill, that's well and good. If not, get behind the voting record of Todd Akin. We have everything to lose. Don't be a part of a continuing nightmare by voting for Claire McCaskill. See details of the Mason Dixon poll at Hot Air where Romney leads, but a Rasmussen Poll tells a different story.

Now that the worst is over, it's time for the GOP superpacs to begin their anti-McCaskill attack adds. Right now her Luftwaffe controls the air waves since the GOP has grounded Akin. If they wait much longer the war will be lost. The ball is in their court.

At this point any true conservative in Missouri should plan on voting for Akin if he continues to foolishly stay in the race until November.
For those folks who wish to support Akin by donations and working for his campaign, have at it. He’s apparently in to stay and I hope he wins although he has damaged his chances.
For both those who support Akin and those who choose to not do so, there are an abundance of other DESERVING conservative Republican Senatorial candidates who are very deserving of our support. The ones that my family and I have chosen to support with our limited time and funds are:
Josh Mandel in Ohio,
Ted Cruz in Texas,
Rick Berg in North Dakota,
Jeff Flake in Arizona
Deb Fischer in Nebraska,
Richard Mourdock in Indiana
Denny Rehberg in Montana
Pete Hoekstra in Michigan
and, possibly:
George Allen in Virginia and others can be added to the list.
I think that all believers in our conservative principles will agree that this is a list of conservative Republicans very deserving of our support and well-wishes for victory in November.
We have significant political battles across the nation and need to remember those. Support these folks to the extent you can.
The way I see it the Missouri GOP has only three choices. Find a candidate that could have more immediate support from those voters who have already elected Akin (probably impossible). Unabashedly support Akin. Or hang up on the election.
The GOP and their array of vastly overpaid but wishy-washy pundits (as I have stated several times previously) have already weakened Akin with their demand for him to step down. The reality is that Americans and the media have only a 24 hour attention span. This would have blown over had they kept their mouth shut.
People make mistakes and it shouldn’t be the end of the world when they do.
After FORTY YEARS of questions about hard cases—rape, incest, so-called “life of the mother” (that one really is a fraud)—any candidate who stumbles over those questions doesn’t deserve to win.
These questions about hard cases should all be answered with a question: “What crime has the baby committed?”
That question all by itself should be the answer of any pro-life candidate. And if the pro-abortion activist (i.e., “journalist”) refuses to answer, just ask the question again: “What crime has the baby committed?”

Have people principles really gone down the tubes that much? Seriously not believing that murdering a baby is suddenly a reason not to vote for someone. Wow. This country is done. Akin should be getting 90 percent for wanting to save babies alone. Anyway, I forgot all about the guy until I got on Free Republic. I think you guys are obsessed with the story....
The GOP is ridiculous. They will complain about this guy and then reelect a slimy guy from Louisiana who was WAY worse.....forgot his name(googled it)....David Vitter is a creep and was reelected. Akin says a sentence and they want to kick him down more. This is DEFINITELY why the GOP is the stupid party.
The problem with what Akin said about rape is this: He said if a woman is “legitimately raped” (i.e., “really raped”) her body would “shut that down” and she wouldn’t get pregnant. By extension, he implied that if a woman gets pregnant as a result of rape, either it wasn’t really rape or the pregnancy is HER fault because her body didn’t reject it. That is both absurd and offensive.
I doubt he intended to imply what he did. I think he was trying to make the point that pregnancy as a result of rape is very rare. Statistics back him up. Still, it does happen. Should a woman should be forced to carry that pregnancy to term? I would hope that she would. Rape is never the baby’s fault.
The issue has blown up far beyond the original statement. but in politics, it’s not what you say or do, it’s what your enemies can make of it. And if you’re a conservative, your foes automatically include the media.

Todd Akin is a much stronger conservative on ALL issues. I will send money to Akin, not to an Open Borders liberal like Flake.

Personally, I'm a member of an even more conservative denomination, the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. The PCA is too broadly evangelical for me, but I'm the first one to say that both of our denominations have their problems.
To prove that Democrats can get some things right, go read Senator Webb's work on the Scots-Irish role on the settlement of the American frontier. One could make a good argument that Scottish blood makes Old School Presbyterians a pretty ornery bunch, and that's Webb's view. I personally think it has much more to do with a very high view of the role of the Old Testament that is shared by Calvinists whether they're Scots Presbyterians, English Puritans, Dutch Reformed, Swiss Reformed, Hungarian Reformed, Korean Presbyterians, or any of the other ethnic groups which have come to have large percentages of Calvinists either now or at some point in their history.
Too bad the Missouri Presbytery isn't one of the hard-core conservative presbyteries in the PCA. Akin might generate a lot of visitors to PCA churches when people realize the PCA is the Presbyterian equivalent of the Southern Baptist Convention -- a strongly conservative evangelical denomination that generally sticks to its guns about core beliefs. If he wins this election, I hope the PCA asks him to lead a seminar on Christian involvement in politics at the 2013 General Assembly, with all the media attention that will generate. Given the nonsense being done by the wacko liberals in the PC(USA), conservative Calvinists need some publicity, and Akin has overnight become the best-known Reformed political figure in the United States. Now we just need to be known for not eating baked feet for breakfast.
Fortunately most Calvinists are far more articulate than Akin was last weekend.
